The Pessoa Guesthouse

Location at the heart of Chiado Very friendly staff Historic room (Pessoa! ) Breakfast at the nearby bakery I read a lot of noise complaints but we found that this was not the case. Sure you have some 'noise' from the below square (until 1AM or so) but compared to other Lisbon area's (party spots) this location was calm and ideal for a good night's rest.

If you want to feel the history of Lisbon, this is the place to stay. The Largo do Carmo is the epicenter of historical Lisbon, and from your balcony you can channel Fernando Pessoa, envision the 1755 earthquake and imagine what it was like on the night of the Carnation Revolution. If you are at all interested in the culture of the city, this is the place to stay!

There are hotels, airbnbs and then there are extraordinary places to stay. This place is the latter and so much more that we will always hold dear and never forget. This was a guest house in the 1800's which was home to iconic Portuguese writer Fernando Pessoa and his family members. You can feel the historical vibrations form the moment you walk in the door and every detail is meticulously curated and perfectly decorated. Staying in the Pessoa was tremendously inspiring and an ongoing experience which brought us closer to the essence of Lisbon through Pessoa. We were greeted by the distinguished host Henrique who kindly guided us to some true gems of Lisbon and whom we grew quite fond of. We ended up extending our trip we were so pleased with our stay. As well as being a top notch operation… LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. The guest house is in the perfect place in chic Chiado on the edge of Largo de Carmo across from the convent ruins and museum. You are steps away from Bairro Alto, Almacenes de Chiado and so many other lovely squares, cafes, restaurants and landmarks. We cannot wait to return to the Pessoa and are so grateful that we found such an authentic and perfect place to be.

The quirkiest hotel we've stayed in! The whole look and feel of the place is like the work of an artist and the fact Pessoa (the Portuguese Shakespeare) once lived in the premises is amazing! We are a young couple who like to get involved with local culture when we travel, always searching for cool and quirky bars and restaurants while taking in a bit of history as we wander around, the location was perfect for that! Also, Henrique the owner was very welcoming and really helpful when recommending places to visit. We were slightly apprehensive that it was a really small hotel and sharing bathrooms etc can sometimes be less than ideal but everything was so clean, all rooms were really stylish and you definitely do have your own space! If you are looking for somewhere a little different from the norm, steeped in local history, right In the heart of everything Lisbon has to offer, I would recommend this hotel as your base. We've stayed in everything from basic hostels to five star hotels but we certainly won't forget the time we spent at this hotel!

The Pessoa is incomparable, super location, cozy rooms and very well decorated, as indeed the whole place, the history related to the fact that Fernando Pessoa here have lived and work makes even more interesting this "guesthouse" whose history is explained soon in the check — in by the friendly Henrique who welcomed us with Port wine, excellent also the breakfast in the pastry next door, for all this a super experience! And whoever says the opposite is lying or has never been here… and disrespects the soul of Pessoa.

The Pessoa — is great. The location is perfect — central and within easy reach of anything you could possibly want. Our room was great. Quirky but very comfortable. The only slight downside is it was a bit noisy at night. The breakfast in the coffee shop next door was good.

Great location right in the centre of Chiado, warm and friendly greeting together with explanations of Pessoa himself. Rooms very stylised — the open area for tea and coffee making is useful to.

Although they did not have an available room for the night when we walked in around 1AM, the — I have to press, most excellent hospitality staff member we ever met — got us a room for a great price in another nearby hotel and also a taxi from door to door. He spent about twenty minutes helping us without a stop, asking other hotels on the phone, explaining everything and even giving us tips what to visit in the city. Best experience about accomodations for sure, absolutely recommended!

Great hotel with good facilities and one of the best views from Lisbon to Tagus river and Castelo São Jorge.

New hotel. Very central for sightseeing. Very clean. Staff are excellent. Some work still to be done. The restaurant wasn't open yet.

Stayed here for 5 nights, wlecoming and friendly staff, comfy rooms, and in a wonderful neighborhood which I think is hard to beat in terms of restaurants, cafes, bars etc and also close to train station.

This is an outstanding hotel. All new (2016). Really clean, nice sheets and toiletries. Wonderful wonderful staff. They went out of their way to accommodate us after a trip cancellation that wasn't their fault. Rui, the GM, made sure we were settled in and taken care of. The rooftop restaurant was not open yet for lunch or dinner but the hotel breakfast was served there and was delicious — awesome pastries, soft scrambled eggs, delicious selections! Highly recommended.

Very nice place, where you can rest and drink delicious natural juce and take a brake from exploring the city. Location is so good that easly you can find it walking around barrio Chiado. Thanks for small chat! "To travel, simply exist. "
