Review of Courtyard by Marriott Iloilo 4*

It's a nice hotel that (mostly) lives up to the Courtyard reputation. Very courteous and helpful staff. While helpful and courteous, I think the front-desk staff needs a little more training. There's little point in online check-in, as the staff wasn't any more (or less) prepared than if we were just checking in normally. I had to answer questions and fill out forms just as if I hadn't already checked in. This turned what should have been just a two or three minute check-in process into 10-15 minutes. And they needed to photocopy my ID? I've never experienced THAT before. The room was very nice (we qualified for an upgrade to a suite) and it was spacious and well laid-out. My wife pointed out to me that housekeeping seems to be slacking off a bit, as there were water spots and streaks on various glass surfaces in the bathroom. Otherwise though it was up to Courtyard standards (I've stayed in a LOT of Marriott properties over the past 30 years). The dining room staff was very helpful and courteous and the food was heated and prepared as we would expect. The external guard staff was also friendly and efficient and I felt our vehicle was well looked after overnight. This hotel's location was perfect for our stay, as they are located just south of Megaworld (just a 5-min walk) and less than a five-minute trike or cab ride to SM and S&R, both stops planned for our trip. It's also just a short 15-minute walk if you want to check out the Iloilo River Esplanade, which is a beautiful walk at sunrise or sunset. It's a more upscale and clean neighborhood and I never felt unsafe or threatened in my walks around the neighborhood. Overall a very nice property and one to which I'll definitely return if we need to spend the night in Iloilo.
