The White Tulip Hostel Hostel

Location is perfect. Few minutes from central station, Most attractions can be coverd by walk. Only a hop away to the red light district if you are looking forward to it. Cons:bathrooms and toilets unclean. Also hostel is not quite. You will hear people drinking and talking loud right outside the room.

It's very well placed and the rooms are ok, although a bit crowded. However, it's kind of dirty, there are not enough bathrooms for the capacity of the hostel, and there are pretty much no other facilities in the hostel. But great location, really.

A good hostel, well located although is a hostel with shared rooms it is organized, I liked to be there, the staff is Nice especially a girl called Roxxane what kind girl! Very Very kind! I feel like in my country around Nice people.

Bed bugs! Not only that but rude staff that deny their existence and call you a liar. It’s a not a surprise when everything else in this hostel is dirty. It’s unfortunate because there is an awesome social vibe here but bed bugs and rude staff can and will ruin a hostel. Looking at other reviews they need to take a look at themselves and sort this problem out.

Haven't stayed at the hostel itself, however I have frequented the bar. Good spot to swing in and have a few drinks or a smoke. Friendly staff decent vibe.

Living here can be hordes of friends to come together, Backpack Inn is originally a good roommate to take you to heaven, bad … Is their own bad luck, the location of the area is very good, the price is better, is to see what you come to play, may be in the middle of the night there are people in the crazy let you sleep, early and so on the deposit of long lines, the reason is that the service staff to repair things, everyone wait until the collapse, hope not next time.

BED BUG ALERT, room was packed, you don’t want those in your life. The staff didn’t seem to care and lied about having someone fumigating the room so we stayed one more awful night there. Ana at the front desk was cool.

Stayed there for two nights, best location in the city with the best price and the best management. Would definitely recommend it to others. The black guy at the reception is very funny and he made my stay the best with his humour.

Very affordable price in the heart of Amsterdam to do with a group of 10 otherwise the room will be shared.

The location was perfect right in the red light district of Amsterdam, aspects to improve the many mattresses were sunk or deformed, the staff the truth that very friendly and attentive.

15 days in this hostel I would not wish them to anyone but it is perfect for short stops.

The price, location and staff were great. Wi-Fi was included and you get a discount at the bar which is a plus. However, the only shower that was available for me to use at the time had an old wet sheet in it and it smelled truly horrible. The worst part is that I found a bedbug on my coat (left in my bed) which I checked due to a recent review here complaining of bedbugs. I also found a single bite on my heel. Check all of the seams and crevices of your belongings to make sure you don't bring them with you! Edit: Found out that I was double charged a few weeks after my stay. The initial charge to reserve was NOT refunded while they charged me again for my stay. They did not cooperate and it had to go to dispute services with my credit card company to get refunded. Avoid this place.

I stayed 3 days, not very good cleanliness, and shared bathrooms.

It's a good place, rooms were stuffy and loud but for the price of my stay it was fine the bars discount helped me drowned out the sound. Also it's in a prime location for tours and genral shopping. Very sociable in the rooms no real common area as such but yeah I'd stop again.

Nice hostel, clean rooms and very central. This means also very noisy and a church right outside chimes every 15 minutes. Good for a weekend but not longer than that. Staff very friendly and helpful.

It is super well located. But its location is also a problem. It's in the red district so always noisy and smell like weed all day long. The bathrooms are clean if you made it before that all the other high people go. They have safe lock for boxes. The best thing is that you have less than a 5 min walk to get to any place in the district. And also close to the central train station. Perfect place for a party runaway with friends to Amsterdam.

The place is great but it is not for families, it is more come for travellers in couple or alone. The hallways and staircases are very narrow, but the rooms are very spacious and comfortable.

Not a bad hostel, but very very basic. No kitchen, no common room, everything is very very tight. To get to some rooms you need to pass through the toilets. Cleanliness was good. A small but picturesque white spot in Holland. Excellent location.

Only a guest of the bar. Very friendly. Friends who were staying there were very happy.

Stayed here in 2012, from reviews everyone is complaining about bed bugs. This was not the case in 2012, had a brilliant stay here, the staircase is amusing especially after a night out. Everyone was friendly and the communal area is a great place to drink. Prices have increased since my stay but so has everything else in Amsterdam. Definitely recommend for people on a budget, want to party and not fussy about cleanliness.

Very clean. It is to be said that it is located in a strategic place and is connected with everything.

Located in the red quarter, not necessarily the nicest in Amsterdam. Cleanliness pretty much correct. Advised the dormitory of 2, very cramped. For one night it's okay, so I'll go somewhere else on dam.

Pros: Amazing location, if you like to go out. You are right in the middle of the action. Everything is right next door and the other people we stayed with are awesome. Cons: It was under construction and we didn't know now until we checked in. They were painiting and working on rooms throughout our stay, and they start work early, which isn't great when your hung over from the night before. It also wasn't cleaned very regularly. The showers and bathrooms were not very clean. They were looking to hire a cleaner while we were there. I'm sure it would be better after the construction is done, and once they have someone to clean more regularly.

The hostel in general was in a great location and easily located from the train station. It was a decent hostel and the people that worked there are very nice. However, a few things were really crappy that made the experience awful. 1) the group's of obnoxious drunk people rolling in. It's a hostel, so that's an obvious perk you get for staying in one. However, there was little enforcement of the hostel rules until one of the drunk people set the fire alarm off from smoking. 2) facilities. Overall clean until they leave them for days at a time. Right after the lady cleaned the restrooms were super sanitary. The 3 days before the cleaning, there was garbage everywhere and people left hair, containers, etc, in the showers. 3) bed bugs. Definitely the worst aspect of the stay. A friend I met who was staying in a different room didn't have issues so it could just be room 202. Ive never had bed bugs ever but the linen was gross and smelly and the second to last day I found a bed bug crawling on my bunk. I didn't stay the last night and I stayed at the airport instead. I have 10 bites on my ankle, stomach, and arms. It's super disgusting. It doesn't have 100 percent to do with the hostel but bed bugs shouldn't be in any hostel or hotel in my opinion.

I booked a month before and just arrived they put me in a bunk bed inside a room of 14 people and in addition sleeping above was impossible to move because the bed from the roof is only a 30 cm.

I can't believe people are actually rating this place any higher than one star! This hostel is appalling. It's dirty, smelly and the staff were terrible. Don't stay here when you can stay somewhere much nicer with a positive vibe.

Went here for five days and couldn't have asked for anything more! the staff were very friendly and happily went out of their way to accommodate your needs. It was very clean and the food was very good. Would happily recommend it to anyone and am most definitely going back.

We were nervous to book a stay here, since the online reviews are so horrid! BUT — we were pleasantly surprised by the White Tulip. As a group of nine American students studying abroad in Barcelona, we were looking for affordability over comfort and, although the White Tulip is certainly not the most amazing hotel in Amsterdam, it worked great for us. The rooms were clean/functional and the bathrooms were clean with nice, hot showers. Andreas, the day shift front desk guy, is awesome and friendly. The night shift guy was a bit more stern but if you make conversation he opens up a bit. Since the WT is in the heart of the Red Light District, weekend nights were loud outside. I'd recommend earplugs if you'd like to sleep more than 4-5 hours in a night! One of the highlights of the White Tulip is the 20% discount at Slaine, an Irish pub next door. Great place to grab drinks before going out or breakfast in the morning.

First time in amsterdam, me and 6 other mates stayed here. For the price it is very good value for money and you get what you pay for, a clean, decent and cheap place to stay. The bar/restaurant downstairs, even if it is on the pricey side was top notch and we spent all our mornings here preparing us for the seizure ahead. In all honesty, on the first night the roof leaked above me (i was on the top bunk) all over my bed so I had to move to the bottom. The issue was quickly resolved which I was impressed with. Our toilet didn't work too which was a bit of an inconvenience, but again it was fixed relatively quickly and the communal toilets were the chrons cheds. The staff (in particular Mario Gotze & Devilman) were very friendly and helpful if we ever needed anything and were quick with checking us in/out. Overall I really enjoyed my stay here and would definitely visit again. Devilman, until next time buddy!

Good hostel for the price and a really nice location, the door of the room was broken and the bathroom was quite dirty. I'll recommend it for sure.

Location is perfect if you want to be in the red light district but that's it, welcoming is OK, rooms are very noisy and it was also really hot. The bathroom is so small you have to wash your stuff with you in the shower. Last but not least : it smells like shit. Like real shit.

I have no idea why this hostel has so many decent reviews all over the internet. Let me try to be fair here: it is the worst place I have ever stayed (and I have been to quiet a few hostels so far). Broken windows, missing slatted frames in 2 out of 4 beds, dirty and disgusting bedclothes are just a few things to mention. The bathrooms are shared and the average visitor here seems to puke next to the toilette at least once per day. The only positive thing about this hostel is the location. It's directly in the center of everything. But then again it is very noisy. I would not recommend this hostel to my worst enemy. It's almost the same as sleeping outside on the street, whereas there, the air would not be that smelly. Service: some stoned guy giving you shittalk whenever you want to enter the hostel. We loved it.
