Reviews of Ohorongo Tented Camp
We made a mistake by only spending two nights at this beautiful lodge. Because a longer stay is definitely worth it. That much in advance.
It is exciting just to visit the lodge. From the main road you have to open a gate and then to drive a few kilometers on sand and dirt to get to the lodge. It is leaning against a rock with a covered dining area that sits on a plateau. Enjoying lunch there is an experience in itself because of the great view that you can get from there.
The welcome is warm and the main building with bar and restaurant is spacious and elegantly furnished. The size of the chandelier is debatable, but we liked it very much.
The excellent service is undisputed. Lucas made every meal a special experience. He is so friendly and reserved at the same time. At the same time, he is extremely attentive.
We were also impressed by the kitchen because we could literally taste the joy with which they cooked there. There are also fine vegetarian dishes if you want.
Titus is a manager who is also an excellent guide. He is very entertaining and explains the fauna and flora in a simple but sophisticated way. He looks after his guests and creates a pleasant atmosphere.
In contrast to many other lodges, rhino tracking, for example, is a real experience. It is important to let the animals live as wild animals.
The tents are tastefully and comfortably furnished. You feel a bit like you are in the film "Out of Africa". Only much more comfortable.
Ohorongo Tented Camp is a unique and magical place. We felt more comfortable there than in any other lodge on our trip. The tranquility, the atmosphere, the scenery, the food and especially the people who work there are sensationally warm. Titus is an excellent guide, he showed us so much, shared his knowledge of nature and culture with us and brought us even a bit closer to Namibia. Lukas is a master in service, extremely polite and charming "Good morning, Lukas" ;-), as well as an artist in napkin folding. Ohorongo has won our heart. Thank you for the unforgettable time.

Initially we were booked to stay at Erindi during our Namibian road trip in August / September, but received an email from them in May saying that they were closing for renovation. Unfortunately this didn't have much notice to rebook a wildlife lodge during peak season where everywhere gets booked up, up to a year in advance.
We therefore stumbled across the Ohorongo Tented camp online, which had availability for our dates & whilst not cheap (2 nights cost the same as 3 at Erindi! ), it was by far the best accommodation experience we have ever had. We don't usually stay in posh places but have occasionally in the past to celebrate special occasions and can safely say that Ohorongo surpassed anywhere we have stayed before.
The day we arrived, it was just us and one other couple staying (the camp has 5 tents so you would never have more than 10 guests there at once anyway) and on the second night we were the only guests. It was incredible knowing that we were at most one in about 15 people (even the main lodge is 12 miles away! ), in a 2000 square mile private reserve!
Even the staff (of which there is only about 4 at the camp anyway are a few 100 metres away behind a rocky outcrop), so the feeling of isolation is incredible and something we really relished. Some people might not like feeling so isolated, but for us it was an amazing experience to be lost in such a vast area full of wildlife and great open space.
