This hotel was arguably the highlight of our stay in Bagan. They made everything very easy, from checking-in hours early and allowing us to check-out a few hours late due to the timing of our buses in and out of Bagan, calling us the bus pick-up to the bus station, offering free bicycles to tour the area with, and generally being located in a very central location in old Bagan near the Ananda temple and a good deal of tasty vegetarian food options. The hotel is beautiful, the breakfast buffet was so good, and the pool was a great place to relax. The rooms are big with amazing beds and powerful air conditioning. One of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in.

Very nice and lovely hotel, cozy room very comfortable. The swimming pool is nice but with a lot of mosquitoes. The food is average, but overall I'd recommend this place.

Outdoor setup (restaurant/bar/pool) is one of the best of bagan. food is succulent. restaurant staff is great.

Spacious Rooms in a park-like Pavilion complex. Everything very nicely designed and cared for. Great Pool with Bar. Rooms clean and well furnished. Absolutely quiet Living with a family character. Restaurant with extensive Offer. The only disturbing ones are the Fires, which are repeatedly lit outside the Hotel For the Incineration of waste.

Great service and proactive staff. Glad to see a good balance of veg and non-veg options in the menu. Rooms are spacious and clean. The last time I visited, I stayed at the Bagan Thande Resort which has a very special riverside view. While Hotel@Tharabar does not have that majestic view, the convenience in distance from airport and access to nearby local spots is an advantage.

Hotel decorated in the traditional Burmese style, the rooms, well furnished, are bungalows in the middle of a lush garden. It is located next to the large Ananda Pagoda. It has a pool. The restaurant is expensive for the country.

I loved the excellent breakfast. The only negative point is that the outdoor swimming pool looks not so clean.

We had a great stay at the Tharabar Gate. Location is great! Staff very friendly & very comfortable rooms. Highly recommended.

Great rooms, great facilities, great service, great location!

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Very friendly staff! Its perfectly located to discover all the pagodas. Don't ask for a taxi at the reception, it's a rip off vs getting a ride across the street by renting an e-bike or go with a horse carriage. A shame as its lost revenue and annoying fir the guest.

We had a very comfortable time here, with spacious rooms and friendly service at all times. The restaurant was beautifully situated and the food was so delicious we ended up eating there every night (very much against our travel policy of eating at the place we're staying). Not a huge number of vegetarian dishes, but those I had many times were delicious. The resort is very close to everything in the area. We were there around the time of the annual market, which was quite an experience but could be noisy at night. A minor quibble.

The best preserved of the 12 gates. The moat is empty but still impressive. Seeing this gate gives a good idea of the grandeur of the Bagan dynasty.

Only existing gate of kingdom of Bagan. Gate keeper are spiritual person (like angel) Min ma ha giri and his younger sister called Shin Myat Hla. They lived in Tagaung Kingdom before their death. Min maha giri name was Mg Tint Dal (Blacksmith), whose physical strength was extraordinary. King Ta gaung forced to marriage his younger sister without favor of him. When several years passed, King Ta gaung doubted Mg Tint Dal to be rebel his throne and killed Mg Tint Dal. After that his younger sister also suicide d. People believed that They two became spiritual being and paid homage. Later time at Bagan Kingdom King Thinligyaung (344-387) made order them to be the guardians at the gate. At present time many people also believe this two as a Eindwin Nat (Coconut Nat) and have been paying homage inside their home to protect enmity and dangers.

Out of 12 gates in Old Bagan, only one left in good condition guarded by 2 spiritual Nats (Mr. Handsome and Miss Golden Face)

Very good place to stay with beautiful specious rooms, large selection of breakfast items, and very convenient location though it all comes at cost. With the car rental services that typically end their services at sunset in Bagan, having easy access to the restaurants on foot from the hotel is critical requirement in Bagan. There are two good restaurants just next door to the hotel. Also there is a popular Burmese Buffet restaurant near the western gate of the hotel. Across the street, there are a few teahouses, a couple of vegetarian restaurants including one that very popular, and a couple more typical Burmese restaurants that always packed with the locals and tourists. In terms of tourist attractions, there is a large Burmese village in the north side (back) of the hotel, several gigantic temples including Ananda, Thatbyinnyu, and palace excavation site, and newly reconstructed palace where there nightly traditional dances are performed with buffet dinner. Those who need a ride to explore Bagan, there are several e-bike stands, a horse cart stand and bicycle rental service just outside hotel.

Fell in love with this place at first sight. The lobby is totally open-air — — just a serene, lovely area with tables and chairs and festive banners (and waiter service). The pool is gorgeous, and with Myanmar's weather it's sheer heaven day or night. The rooms are large and stylish but rather barnlike and decorated plainly. Toss in the dirt-cheap, incredibly delicious restaurants right across the street and you've got a don't-miss hotel.
