Review of Secrets The Vine Cancun 5*

My $30, 000 bracelet was stolen by hotel staff and my life felt threatened. Everything was perfect until my wife and I went to the spa (for her birthday). We were walked into the locker room and the gentleman told me I should take off my Jewelery for the massage. He showed me the locker and told me to put it in the locker (later hotel manager told me he wasn’t allowed to tell me to take it off). I put it in my locker and locked my locker. In the meantime my wife was walked into the women’s locker room by a female who never told her to take off her jewelry so my wife didn’t. I Came back after the massage and my locker was broken into and my diamond bracelet was gone. Keep in mind when I walked into my massage the only person around was Angel the guy who walked me to my locker and told me to take off my jewelry. No-one else aside from staff was in the spa area. Right off the bat I had a feeling it was Angel. I asked for the cameras and for the police to come. They told me we can’t have the police come until we follow their “security protocall”. They took us to our hotel room and checked all of our room and our belongings like we were the thieves. None of the hotel staff were checked. We were the only ones checked and our privacy was violated. The nightmare keeps getting worse! We cooperated with the staff even though our privacy was violated. They told me they will get me a police report after they check our room and stuff. We then asked for the police report and they said they can’t give us a police report that we have to go to the police station to get one. I go to the police and the police is no help they don’t speak English so they say to come back tomorrow. When we got back we demanded to see the cameras which they didn’t provide until the next day. After checking cameras we seen the head of security Jose Cruz Ojeda go to the locker room of the spa during my massage with another security personnel and leave 10 minutes later. When I asked why he went back there he told me “protocol I can go whenever I want. ” But when I asked the other employee Angel why Jose from security went back to locker room during my massage he said “he was checking about installing some cameras in the spa” I knew that was a lie because you can’t have cameras in a private area in a spa and because they both had different stories. BUT THATS NOT ALL! It gets worse! The person in charge of the whole investigation is JOSE the head of the security and he is the one who is clearly involved in this theft. How does that make any sense? He is in charge of the cameras and he wouldn’t give me a copy or let me record the screen but he took a picture of me and my wife on his phone and wouldn’t tell me the reason (this is when I began to feel threatened)! The following day I demanded they call the police again so after multiple demands they called the police but the police would not go inside the hotel. We had to meet the police on the street! The police DID NOT HELP! They actually threatened to arrest me because I asked why is hotel staff taking pictures of me! They were laughing with the hotel staff. The police said I have to go to the station myself and pay $60 dollars for a report. Guess who came to the police station at the same time… JOSE from the security! The cops were on the hotel staffs side and it seems everyone was in on this scheme. After I got my report I was on high alert having anxiety feeling like I was in so much danger. I called American Express (who I booked the stay through) to try and get a flight back home early but nothing was available. My wife and I locked ourselves in the room that day/night because we were so scared. We couldn’t sleep all night. The whole trip was dealing with this. On the way out from the hotel (at checkout) they wanted me to pay for the spa charges. I said I won’t pay for it because they stole my bracelet! They offered to waive our spa fees but we had to sign a waiver saying there is no liabilities and they are not Responsible for any missing belongings. Instead of helping us with the horrible nightmare they tried to trick us into signing off our rights. This was the worst and most uneasy I ever felt traveling. This trip caused so much trauma/loss for my wife and I! I will never be back to Cancun again and I will never ever go to a secrets hotel again.
