Great experience, loved our view from our room, the friendly and helpful staff. Fernando was a very friendly and funny bartender/server at the buffet. He made us feel very welcome and enjoyed his great customer service.

We have stayed three times at the Occidental Nuevo Vallarta and it keeps getting better and better. Excellent food, service, and atmosphere. The staff beams with positive energy. We love it here and will be back.

Friendly staff, genuinely kind and helpful. Our rooms were amply sized and supplied every day with water, sodas, and snacks, with no extra charges. The Occidental was clean and organized, and all of the food options were delicious, even the buffets! We will definitely stay here again on our next visit.

Awesome hotel. Not too big and the staff was very friendly. I spent a fair bit of time by myself here and I never had any safety concerns, totally relaxing.

The whole staff has once again exceeded my expectations it’s my 3 time visiting this hotel and honestly it just keeps getting better and better, not to say it will now hold a special place in my heart since we renewed our vows this time around. Lousy service, from the reception about the overbearing of the worst, the rooms, the most ugly I've gone to visit, a penalty will be burned as well with the client! I don't recommend them for nadaaaa.

I have been coming to this resort since the late 1990's and I will keep coming back. This is the cleanest resort I have been to and the staff is incredible. I would recommend upgrading to at least the First Club, the pool isn't as crowded and the bar is better.

The entertainment staff at this resort is phenomenal. They are the friendliest and hardest working people. The entire resort is immaculate. We hard some issues but maintenance fixed everything quicker than I thought possible. Highly recommend this place.

Good service by the employees, especially the service in the Restaurant and in general, good food. The price does not meet what is expected. Bad drinks and free Wi-Fi.

Had always recommended this hotel to my family and friends but it is time not recommend it more! The quality and taste of the food low a lot, I wanted to improve my reservation to Royal Level (previously we were with these services) that at this level the food is a la carte and the difference was low in price, on the internet I could not improve such a booking and in the reception of the hotel the difference was larger I am a frequent customer intense and they would not match the internet price so good that it was only two nights and Sunday morning as we leave here conclusion no longer return! Or recommend!

This is one of the best hotels I've been to so far. I would recommend this place for families not so much for single people. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The beach is very clean. The sales people are are very nice and they will only bother you once for it being Mexico. Overall is a very nice place just to go and relax. Not so for partying.

The hotel room was generally clean and tidy. Amenities were regularly provided, and staff was pleasant and genial. The buffet and restaurants provided a variety of foods worth the all-inclusive price, although if staying for more than a week, the variety becomes rather bland. Entertainment and activities were plentiful, although watch out for noise at night.

The amenities have been outstanding. I have been particularly impressed with the variety and quality of the food in the buffet. The only thing keeping my review from 5 stars is the very slow check in. If there is anyone at the service desk, expect to wait a while before you are helped.

Make sure you bring formal clothes with you during your stay at this property. The inclusive package we purchased does include dining in four restaurants in the hotel. The buffet, the Japanese, the Italian and the Mexican. However, if you do not bring formal clothings (long sleeve shirt, long pants and shoes don’t show your toes) with you, you could only use the buffet during the entire stay. The buffet is Okay but we felt very bored eating basically the same food every day. With the other restaurants already included in our paid package, we were rejected to enter due to “casual wear”. Come on! We are here for the beach and pool, right? I didn’t know that we have to bring “formal wear” with us! After reasoning with the concierge desk, we were given new tickets to get in the Mexico restaurant which does not require long pants and formal shoes. But when we showed up at the restaurant, we were brutally rejected by the captain on duty, first she said you have to wear long pants but we pointed other customers are wearing shorts, she said:” the color of your shorts is not formal enough to dine in here” What?! I did wear my tropical colored casual shorts because we are on vacation. Then I told her the concierge desk has verified my wearing appropriate for the Mexican restaurant and she said :” This is Mexico, so you should wear black or white shorts to get in. ” Wow wow wow! I requested to speak with the manager and she said she is the highest on duty.

My husband surprise me to take me to our anniversary to Puerto Vallarta. We stayed at the Occidental Hotel the workers very nice Benjamin our bartender was on point with drinks and making sure we were taken care of. The team overall was very attentive throughout the hotel. I would love to visit one more time. Things can change with time however management were around at all times supervising all areas felt secure.

Excellent service. Very rich food. Very clean room all in excellent condition the facilities. Pools. Lounge Bar, bunk beds. Drinks service in beach very attentive and service in excellent restaurant recommended the hotel.

Only 2 stars because they have a really clean pool. Other than that their food isn't tasty or great at all. Staff are kind of friendly and helpful when they want to be. The room doors are NOT sound proof. You hear everything. I don't think I'd stay here again.

Excellent location beautiful clean. But the service very bad they want to charge for everything Wi-Fi room service to many problems to reserve a restaurant. The food horrible very disappointed in all inclusive hotel.

Unfortunately for me and my family, it is a hotel that does not reach 3 stars and is said to be 5. The front desk doesn't give you a choice of room. They charge you for using Wi-Fi (LOL). I wanted to book for the gala dinner and they had no place. (There were no guests in the Hotel). It only has 2 restaurants and they serve you the same morning late and night. They have No terrace the rooms. They do not have aquatic games, they do not offer the service of rent of boats, Moto Ski, kayak. Etc. Do not prepare food on the beach for guests. We rented in Western, as the hard rock was at its peak. And we decided to rent to one side. (Western). I wonder. Western is 5 * and the Hard Rock is 4 *. Will it be that the less stars are better? (5 and 6 May 2018)

Great experience. Food was very good with large variety. Staff was very helpful throughout the stay. The set-up for the beach and the pool is great. Very comfortable bed.

The hotel is nice but do not know the customer service, charge for the Wi-Fi, to stay after the check out (hourly charge), check in is a disaster.

In general the facilities are acceptable but have areas of opportunity, you must have a greater variety of food in the buffet and improve quality. The location of the hotel seems good! And it allows you to visit nearby towns and villages.

Nice place, clean and relaxing.

Good beach. Food with nothing outstanding. Very small rooms, no terraces. They sell partial sea views and overlook the garden. It is the least recommended that I have visited for 15 years that frequented different 2 times a year in different parts of the Pacific, Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean.

Excellent service and attention of the staff, the cleanest hotel I have visited, I recommend hiring the Royal level as it is fully personalized attention, it has exclusive restaurant for these guests as well as pool and benefits that make much more Pleasant stay, just missed Bálcon in the room, not if any at this level or had bad luck, but everything else excellent.

Overall pretty happy with resort. If you are a food person this is probably not the best place for you. I would rate the food very average. The grounds and resort are quite clean and appear to be well maintained. It is quite a bit smaller than other resorts we have stayed at but that was a plus for us. The upgrade was worth it for us. The main pool had kind of a spring break feel. It’s not a bad thing it’s just not for us. If you prefer a quieter pool area the upgrade should be considered. The location is very nice. It’s close to a bit of shopping and the main road is great, if you enjoy a nice walk or bike ride. Cabs are reasonable from resort just be sure to ask for rate before entering taxi on way back. Tipping. This has always been a tougher one for me, if you feel they deserve one than give one, but sometimes I think there is an expectation before a service has been provided. Would I stay again?, yes. Just know what you want when planning your trip. We like the sun and pool, so this worked out perfect.

Excellent hotel on the beach with impeccable service. Pay for the Royal level because it's worth it. Sunset at the level restaurant is breathtaking. Even if there is no balcony the Windows open and the view is beautiful from all over the level (6 and 7th floors)

Occidental is a beautiful resort just like on a picture. Buffet in the morning have a different variety of food omelets, crapes, pancakes, out meal, fruits. It would be nice to have a different menu once in the while for lunch and much flavorful taste, we had beef stroganoff with rice but it was only served one time on one of the day for dinner. We had Italian for three days in a row just because I like salmon) Mexican restaurant was just ok. Our favorite restaurant was Tokyo. Resort have a Long Beach and it’s great for walking, sand is yellow and soft like a powder, ocean kind of darker color just like on a pacific coast, waves are crystal white and water is warm during a day. We really enjoy our stay after all, stuff is really friendly and helpful.

The staff was extremely nice and helpful. The food in buffet was usually good, although I didn't really enjoy the breakfast. The other restaurants were good, but not great. The pool and the beach were pristine. Last the kids club came in real handy for my two kids!

I return to this resort every year it is my favourite hotel all-inclusive vacation spot overlooking Banderas Bay. The recent renovations are phenomenal at the new Tokyo hibachi and sushi restaurant and a new Mexican restaurant service is outstanding and food is incredible. The staff is professional courteous and strive to make your vacation memorable. The new First Club Manager Raul Gonzalez is like your personal concierge.

1 star because they charge $12 a day and Per device is an abusive price, sounds at prices a decade ago or international flights have those costs… The rest of the services, all right.

My husband and I stayed here a few times and we LOVED it. We always upgraded to Royal Club and the service was impeccable! Cesar in the Royal Club restaurant on 7th floor is AWESOME, such an awesome waiter! The Bellmen (can't remember their names) but they are very attentive and welcoming. Rooms are comfortable, clean and up-kept. The only downfall (which is why I gave 4 stars) is the price. It has become very expensive to stay at this hotel and keep the Royal Club benefits. Other that this resort is exceptional!

Beautiful grounds and hotel. The staff are all top notch. They are so helpful and friendly. Everything was clean and comfortable. 2 criticisms… the food at the buffet was a bit on the cool side. The warming lights seem a bit weak. The food was very tasty though. The other thing was the price of Wi-Fi. Very expensive. We really enjoyed our stay.

Excellent hotel, they treat you very well since you arrive. The rooms have refrigerator with drinks already included, the bar bar is of good quality and best of all are the restaurants that handle, very good quality of food and distinction in the staff. Highly recommended for an excellent holiday.

The lady of the mini club does her best not to receive children, is the first Barceló that I see such a bad attitude of a miniclub of the chain and I see that there are already several guests who comment something similar. We realized that the girl does not want to have the miniclub open and looks for any pretext, of course we go with the children to spend it as a family, but we also need a couple time that throughout the chain Barceló do not grant it pleasantly and here the truth do not put attec I would like to give that look the high and rude girl I do not think recommend it I have 11 years coming to the chain and only this hotel generated me this problem hopefully and understand that the client is the most important. We went 2 weeks ago and it was awesome! Super friendly staff. A great place to go and relax the bartenders were on it! Really clean place I give it 2 thumbs up. I will definitly be returning.

UPDATE: The concierge received an email that I made this review. She did everything in her power to make up for the way we were treated, and that she did. Because of her, we were able to forget the way we were so poorly treated and she really made the trip one to remember. Thank you very much, Occidental. We will come back, I'm very happy to know that the happiness and comfort of their guests truly does matter. We arrived at the Occidental on Tuesday and were able to check in right away. However, when we entered the room, there were two twin beds instead of a king like we asked. Also, there are no balconies in this resort. I put that in all caps because it seems I wasn't the only person who thought every room had a balcony. The only thing close to a balcony is the first floor, the rooms by the pool have terraces. The whole reason I paid for an ocean view room was to sit out on the balcony. But that's okay, we can blame that error on my own ignorance. When we saw that we had two beds instead of one, we went downstairs to see if we could change rooms to one we had asked for. They told us that there were no rooms available, but maybe if they had cancellations for the next day, we could change. Alright, that was fine. It wasn't too big of a deal. We ended up not being able to change rooms and we said, that's fine. We're okay with two beds. We are rational people, we understand things can't always work out, and why stress over things so tiny. At least we still had beds.

The food was really good, lots of options for my veggie loving wife. Even more options for a carnivore! The grounds were very clean, the beach was well kept and the booze was cold and flowing. Serving staff near the pool were incredible, the grill and buffet staff were hit and miss some days. All in all a good place for a relaxing stay.

Very nice atmosphere, very friendly staff, great beach, several swimming pools for big & Small, special requests no problem, rich breakfast, lunch and Abendsbuffets, price performance percentage very good, had a great relaxing holiday and can only recommend it to a friend.

Excellent service and accommodations, the event staff make it fun beyond the drinks and relaxing all inclusive experience. Fine dining restaurants are top, feels a proper five star resort.

I actually expected much less, as I did not investigate when booking, I did not see pictures and had not heard of this hotel and the truth is marveled at this hotel, is a hotel that is really worth visiting, is a 5 star hotel at a very good price, the reception staff does not have the best attitude but no matter since only 5 minutes, the food is great, varied and of the best quality, has several restaurants and all with the same quality, the beach is very nice and have water activities, the rooms are modern, clean and spacious I will return every time I visit Nuevo Vallarta, I loved it.

Great hotel. Great staff, especially in the first club area. Hotel was doing renovations during our visit, still had a good trip. Things will we even nicer when we go back.

We had a very enjoyable time at Occidental. I do have a few observations you could call them complaints. The GD smokers really ruin the atmosphere in more ways than one. I wish they would sequester the smokers so I didn't have to smell that stuff. The food is incredible in general but they tend to make most of their dishes with way way way too much gravy or salsa when I say salsa I don't mean hot sauce. Everything is covered in kind of a gravy or sauce and though it tastes good it's kind of like a One Tone meal. The waters, juices are incredible and the desserts are out of this world. The staff treat us like we are Kings, but sometimes they're a little cheap they wanted $5 for an extra key card that's just a plastic generic Hotel key card. I do recommend this place as an all-inclusive choice it really is a wonderful vacation thank you to my wife.

Great resort. We originally came to this resort in 2003 and on 2004 bought a vacation package from them. Nice location but they really have an exceptional portfolio. Just don't get caught in the sales of one plan and then what you thought you bought turns into a new class that you need to upgrade to participate in.

I want to share our experience here with Occidental Nuevo Vallarta. Our family vacation was about a week long. We had such a great time. The staff here was amazing. All staff was very out going and helpful. Mostly everyone spoke english and spanish. If we needed something at any point anywhere on the resort staff made sure you would have it or find someone who could get it. I want to personally let management know Rene Garcia made our family feel very welcome and relaxed throughout our whole stay here. He even saw us leaving for the airport and wished us great travel home. I loved all the variety of food. Tokyo was my favorite place. Staff was outstanding and we had met the chef of the resort that night. If you are looking for a family friendly entertaining resort with great staff this is the place. Food is great. ^_^ hospitality is outstanding. The shows are terrific. The drinks are good. Facilities are okay. — but read more for full details. If only the rooms are more sound proof but other than that the place is very beautiful. The small place comes with advantage. The experience is more intimate than other Mexican hotels — it might be small but you get to know and get to be friends with others. This is our 3rd all inclusive and it was a bit on the higher price but — OMG it was worth it.

This was my first time ever being at a resort and it blew my mind away. It was perfect in many ways. The hotel it's self was perfectly designed. The resort offers multiple activities that you can do that include the swimming pool, beach, gym, children's play house, a theater for performing, etc. The view of the beach and beach itself were beyond beautiful. The swimming pools were perfect temperature too. The resort offers a buffet and other restaurants to dine in that include Japanese, Italian, Mexican, etc. The downside to the restaurants is that they require semi-formal clothing and men are required to wear pants only, which is difficult when you pack clothes for summer weather only. The food was great and the drinks were too. The rooms were really clean and hotel staff were very compliant. The staff was also flexible with language, they speak English and Spanish so you don't feel confused or alone. I highly recommend this resort for people who've never been to a resort like I and/or are searching for that perfect getaway.

Resort is beautiful, I love how the staff knows English so you don't feel like you have to learn a language to enjoy your stay there. One thing I didn't like at all was the fact that the staff regularly let themselves into our room even when the do not disturb sign was up. If they knocked more than twice and we didn't answer the door but were inside our room, they would just let themselves in. That made me a little upset because most of the time we were sleeping and they woke us up. The taco bar also wasn't that great, but they have other foods to choose from so you didn't have to eat those gross tacos. I really enjoyed their all inclusive package overall though. They really try to take care of their guests.

Best place to stay! The staff was top notch! The food amazing. Fun atmosphere with always something going on. We especially loved Angie, one of the servers on the beach and pool area! She went out of her way to make sure we were taken care of.

Amazing food and service. The Asian restaurant Zen was amazing and the chef was also amazing.

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary back in August, we loved the hotel, nice beach, great food, all the people that works here are so nice and helpful except for Rodolfo the guy that help us with registration. I feel he gave us the worst room he could possibly gave us that is for paying for an all inclusive Grand Romance package. We didn't get our strawberries with chocolate or champagne bottle that was included with our package, he gave us a room right in front of the elevator and to top it off, the shower in our room was leaking water to the closet and some of my clothes got wet/stained. The room had a moldy smell (closet had water damage) but didn't notice the water leak or damage in the closet until the night before we checked out (5 days later) When I told the people at the front desk about the shower leak they didn't offer to move us to another room and they said they didn't have strawberries or chocolate. I was very disappointed not getting what we were supposed to get in our package and I would'nt stay here again for this reason. I am giving this hotel three stars only because Rodolfo otherwise it would be five stars. Bartenders and everyone at all restaurants were excellent.

Luxury Hotel, exceeded my expectations, although on occasions I realized that some of the food is recycled, such as bacon or some flours. It would be best if you only make small portions so they don't waste so much. The service in the bar excellent, rooms are clean, beach clean and all the staff attentive to guests. I really liked the hotel. Recommended!

Great everything nice people not to big it's great and kid friendly. I really enjoyed my stay.

I'm a member now since 2006. This is our first time here and it will not be our last. I consider this from location, view, day travel, golf, mountains sunsets, fishing, food the best yet. I have not been to any Barcelo's so keep this in mind. We our Royal members and at this royal club is actually very nice on the top floor but the first club down by the beach you spend more time there. Great evening sunset from the Royal Bar and restaurant. Love Los Olives Italian restaurant and they have other nice selection of wines for extra. Buffet good, Pool bar bar etc. All good. They are remodeling a lot especially the adult pool area while we were there so should even be better. You can walk for miles in the direction of La Cruz wide beach. Water clean but not clear because of the dark sand etc. Good clean beach Good but not Great. Rudy (Rudolpho) in the royal club helped us very well with our fishing trip. And other needs. Great guy. Rokera Sport Fishing are 4 brothers and a dad they are fantastic. Bay for 4 hours or further out they can help. Great staff. Keep in mind this is a small venue but drive to North or south for an hour and see different parts around the area. Sayulita is a nice surfing town, getting commercial quick so go now, south is a nice drive but go after morning traffic or schedule around Cruz ships. You will drive exactly along the beach front mountains. Hertz just down the street, grocery store, Starbucks, marina etc.

I loved the hotel and in general all the facilities, the staff is at an excellent level, the kindness and the detail to attend to are great. As points of opportunity the food at the buffet is not so good. Without the food in the restaurant with a reservation if it was exquisite. I would like them to have more activities for people who travel in family because the majority of those that have not contemplated the children.

A great place, every person who works here is very friendly and are always mindful of the people, the rooms are always clean and are in good condition, the food is always variable and very delicious.

This good, but the restaurant hours are horrible, at 3:30 pm to close the restaurant. Another really bad thing is that charged for Internet in the rooms. In what century live?

I wouldn't say that this was the best place I've been to, but I gave it 5 stars because of the service and the experience itself. This hotel was definitely clean and nice and better than I had expected, because I had booked it through Costco because it was the most affordable, so I wasn't expecting the quality to be a 5 star hotel, but it exceeded my expectations. The hotel was right off of the water, easy access to the beach/ocean, with clean lounge chairs and pools. They had three different areas to choose from, the general family pool, the adult pool, and the ocean of course! We were only there for a few days but it felt like a week because they offered us so much to do! There were nightly events that kept us entertained. The hotel was close to Vallarta Adventures where we took a cab out about 10 minutes to the location, and that as well was a great adventure. There were kayaks, jet skis, parasailing and banana boats all available to us on the beach. The all-inclusive was the best part, unlimited drinks and food, if the buffet was closed, there were other options to eat with their side cafes'. To be completely honest, we had a great time primarily due to the service, Hector made THE BEST mojitos, Lupe in particular was our server throughout most of our dining, and he was hands down the one thing that made our trip!

I stayed recently with a group of 20 people, and I want to emphasize honesty and efficiency of the staff. I forgot a bag and wallet in the room.
I called the hotel the next day (Monday) and they indicated me that yes they had reported as forgotten objects and they would indicate not. Account to deposit the amount of the shipment if he wished that they send me to my home.
Sent a mail making the request formal and indicating my data waiting for response, that not got by mail.
My surprise is that on Wednesday the messaging with my perfectly complete things.
I am grateful attentions, no doubt I'll be back to visit them.

Just got here and love this place. So far the staff here are friendly and kind. But it's only thever first day.

Very good hotel for an all-inclusive. The food is good or very good, better than other nearby. The staff service is excellent, friendly, and attentive. The drink is regular to good, failure to put best bottles, except the bar cost extra. I would come back on my next vacation.

The guests of this hotel receive their medical care, especially their emergency medical care, from the San Javier Hospital located in Nuevo Vallarta. You can expect great medical care at that hospital, but go there only if you can afford to forfeit your substantial deposit to the hospital director / admin staff (regardless of what your insurance pays). If not, go to a more honest and administratively competent hospital.

Early in our stay but exceeding expectations. Some not picky concerns but no deal breakers. Grand Concierge upgrade well worth the modest fee. We would return.

On arrival I was assigned a room and at the time of entering already was someone lying inside…
I understand that they close the bar early (1 am) but to turn off the lights with many people still living, is a very disrespectful way of cum being that the hotel does not have a nightly gathering place…

My husband and I just returned from this resort on March 18-2016. It was for celebrating our 50th anniversary. We were up graded to the royal club. We arrived on a Friday and on Sunday, he got sick. We can not express how very helpful the staff was. Javier walked with us to the Dr. Office and explained all my husbands symptoms to the Dr. In Spanish, that really helped. A big thanks to him! Jesus Rodriguez was our waiter and he really looked after us, like family, going to the kitchen and having chicken soup made for my husband and fresh carrot juice twice. Wow that was special! And another waiter, it could have been Abraham, made a garlic sandwich, to help him. We booked restaurants twice but had to cancel because of him still not well. Tried to have breakfast on the beach but that also didn't work out. But on the day before we left we did have our "anniversary dinner' in the main restaurant with champagne and Miguel, our waiter came out to the beach and took a picture of us in the sunset! When we got back to our room, to our huge surprise, was a letter from the hotel, wishing us a happy anniversary, with a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries! Alondra arranged that we found out later, Thanks so much! The morning of our departure, Jesus Rodriguez again surprised us with hats to wear and some cake with a candle on a beautifully decorated plate saying "happy anniversary" and then along came a bottle of champagne!
