I have stayed in this hotel for 5 times. It is my favourite hotel in Penang. The crew at the cafe is amazing. They are always very friendly and helpful. They make me look forward to breakfast there every morning. I left a item when I checked out last Sunday. Ms Yati from the back office operator helped to locate the item and passed to my Penang friend who collected it on my behalf. Big Thank You to Yati!

Appalling service at checkin, despite paying for adjoining rooms for children and I the hotel booked us into separate rooms and claimed the misunderstanding was our fault for booking 2x Kingsized rooms instead of a King and a Queen. No apology, no help, just rudeness. WIll not return to Jen, here or in my hometown.

Stayed for 5 days 4 nights booked two family rooms with my siblings and Nephew and maid at room 808 & 809.
Request for reconnecting room but the Manager confirmed that they don’t have reconnecting room for family room. Overall the room is okay although not spacious, but it’s comfy. As for the breakfast spread it’s not too bad except for the Nasi Lemak sambal tumis is awful. I’m looking forward actually to try the Nasi Lemak but it was disappointed, so yea I skip it. We have been here for 3 days and we have another 2 more nights to go and then back to Singapore. Well I hope my next two nights will be well spent here in Penang as this is my birthday trip with my whole family.

The friendly staff at hotel made us feel welcomed. We booked a twin sharing room and 4 bottles of water and toiletries were replenished each day. Bedroom slippers are the comfy type not the disposable ones and were replenished each day. The room is bright and clean with built-in usb and adaptor switches. Our booking came with breakfast which has a great selection. One of the staff found out that we were taking a night flight after we checked out at 12pm. He suggested we could take a shower to freshen up at hotel's Health Club free of charge. If I am visiting Penang again, will definitely stay here again. Thank you to all the friendly and helpful staff who made our stay a very pleasant and comfortable one.

Nice & lovely hotel located in d middle of Georgetown Penang. Walking around the city is a great wonderful place.

We are on a family trip and the unpleasant incident of SilkAir missing our wheelchair was actually compensated with friendly staff checking us in at the Club Lounge. Butler was also wonderful in helping delivering our luggage’s to our rooms. We have 3 rooms booked for this family trip. I felt that we must also mentioned the staff by the name of William at the Club Lounge who is ever so obliging and ever so cheerful.

I feel at home stopping at the Jen. The Staff appear to remember you and make you feel welcome at all times. In particular William and Wan in the Club, who remembered me from previous visits, made me feel as though I belonged there. They made Me feel very comfortable, particularly as I am a lone traveller. The standard of the Club is outstanding. Room stewards the same. Spoke of my previous visits. Great to have people like this to speak to. I call The Jen My Malaysian Home.

Loved the location of the hotel and the modern look of the lobby. The ambience, the cosiness of the room was also a plus point. Staff were friendly and efficient, attending to our needs immediately. We were able to check in early and check out later which helped tremendously as our flight home was a late one. We are happy with our stay in Hotel Jen.

Excellent stay for business travellers. Right in the centre of the city. Easy access to the malls. Excellent customer service. The only complaint I have is the tiny bathroom, especially the shower. Other than that, all is well.

We only stayed one night here but we had a very pleasant stay. We got an upgrade to make things even better. Thanks to William who was so welcoming and polite. Basically every staff we met here was very pleasant and friendly. The club lounge was great. Good breakfast, abundant snacks and drinks at cocktail time. My room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. The Wi-Fi was easily accessible and consistently reliable. Definitely will stay here again on my next vacation in Penang. Thank you.

My friend and I have a great time during our stay. We also impressed with Katherine's service during our check in process. Although then there is a delay in the check in and we are told to come back later. But after 2 hrs, our room is still not ready! And another male staff, I hope that I get his name correctly, Max (a fair young man wearing specs), he tried his ultimate best to get our room ready at the shortest time, knowing that we are tired. We too are impressed with his service. Please help us to convey our appreciation to them and keep up the good work!

I stayed there for 3 nights to explore a bit of Penang and celebrate my mom’s birthday. I also brought my brother and my grandmother along, so we had 2 comfy interconnecting rooms. Hotel’s location is very convenient as a lot of local stores and shopping mall are actually within a walking distance.
I’m happy that my mom was surprised with the yummy cute birthday cake by the hotel. Staff there was really pleasant and super helpful too! On the way driving to the hotel, one of my car tyres had a bit of a problem which may affect our long drive back home, so I asked some of the staff regarding the nearest (and trusted) workshop right after our buffet lunch there. We are unfamiliar with Penang’s road, so Suresh (from my the Cafe) assisted us to lead the way to the workshop. Once there, we offered him a ride back to the hotel but he actually insisted to walk instead! Luckily it’s just a stone throw away, else I’d really feel bad. My car now got a good set of wheels and I really am so grateful to all the staff there for making it possible. Thank you!

We had a quick and pleasant check in experience. The room was new, clean and comfortable. The concierge, restaurant, housekeeping staff and doormen were very helpful and cheerful (especially the 3 lady staff from the restaurant! ) when we asked for directions. The location is central and near to so many eateries and shopping malls. Overall, we had an enjoyable stay and we would book Hotel Jen again the next time we go to Penang! Thumbs up to Hotel Jen!

The hotel is clean and feel fresh and pleasant after the renovation. Your staff are all very helpful and courteous. I had a birthday cake in my room on 30th May evening. That was nice. But not sure did the staff notice it was my birthday or after my colleague told the front desk it was my birthday and ask to drop a birthday card into my room. Its was a pleasant surprise.

The pillows were too soft. Could not sleep well. Good location if you want to shop and move around Georgetown. More of a Business Hotel than a Tourist Hotel. Buffet Breakfast had a wide selection catering to various tastes. +1 for the takeaway coffee/tea option. Room had all the electrical plugs / usb connections to satisfy a Business Traveler. Was offered to upgrade to the Club Room for RM100++ per person but did not take the offer. This offer would allow access to the Club lounge + have snacks /drinks all day. Being on a holiday, most of the time was spent outside shopping /eating/ walking around so no point taking up the Offer. Overall a pleasant experience.

Your hotel room layout is very beautiful, the equipment is very modern, very practical, especially the mobile phone with USB charging, very convenient, only the bathroom water pressure is not enough, shower is not comfortable, and, let us the most unpleasant is, in our third night, the room has had a power failure, the whole room has no electricity, no air conditioning up to three times, This is the first time we stayed at the hotel when it happened, more disappointed, but, your hotel all aspects of the service, breakfast food drinks, staff service attitude, are fully demonstrated by a large group of professional training, have the opportunity to travel to other places, will certainly consider the ' JEN ' brand of wine.

Compliment:- a. Well explained by the chef that the hotels eggs are safe from Salmonella. b. When requesting for additional tea bags, staff immediately attend to me. c. Mobile check out is great and convenience Complaint:- a. Pls do (at the cooking station) not eat in front of the guest. b. The fish for breakfast, smells "fishy".

This hotel is forever changing names. After all this time, I am still amazed at how it has kept up with the times. The rooms have been refurbished many times and tastefully furnished. I will still be back years down the road even when the years are no longer with me. Yes, I have grown old. I see value for money here. Everything is within walking distance here. Old town, street food, the new the old, the hustle and bustle. Just keep exploring. Go back and rest when you tire which by the way is still walking distance. Enjoy.

A great hotel in the heart of the city. If you are going to Penang and planning to stay in the city, this hotel is the best place to stay. The hotel is newly made, has got clean rooms, great food, got a lot of verity in breakfast. There are two shopping malls nearby, just a walking distance from the hotel. Overall I really liked the hotel because of its ambience, friendly staff, clean rooms and connectivity to the city.

Despite the construction in front of the hotel, I really had a pleasant stay. The room is clean and spacious as well as the bathroom and everything else. Though I did not ask for room service cleaning, your kind housekeeper still knocked on my door and ensure that I got everything I need. I really don't mind the knocking at all. Your breakfast though is kinda repetitive but still fulling with so much variation. The fact that its just beside a mall was a plus. I can get anything I need easily. Will definitely consider staying again on the same hotel. Thanks.

Stayed here for two nights, good location close to the well known and popular cafes and restaurants. There is a convenience store across the road so it's easy to get anything you need. The rooms are quite basic but comfortable, has all the things you need in a hotel room. The swimming pool is a bit disappointing as it's small and quite dirty but not everyone swims anyway. Price is a plus, very affordable, good value.

Rooms clean and novel, near Everbright Mansion and Shantou night Market, next to the bus terminus and shopping mall, very convenient, it is worth recommending.

The location is very good. There are 3 shopping centres around the corner. Street art area is also nearby. The staff are very friendly and the room is clean. I am especially impressed at the club lounge with Mr William's friendliness and his sharp observation about details. If there is anything that should be improved, I will think that the area near the children pool should be designated clearly as non-smoking.

Overall my stay was generally good. But I would like to point out 2 issues:- 1) My family (with a baby) was provided with a room right next to the lifts. Throughout my stay I can hear the movement of the lifts day and night. My baby was also having difficulty sleeping. Maybe your staff can be more observant in the future and not provide rooms next to the lifts for travelling families with kids. 2) The sound proofing of the room is totally lacking in all areas. As highlighted above, I can hear the movement of the lifts, people talking right outside and kids running down the alley. On a positive note, the buffet breakfast was superb and had a good spread.

We booked Hotel Jen Deluxe Room (King) via Expedia. However, on arrival we were informed that there were no available King rooms, and was offered 2 super single beds connected together. Although the check-in experience was a little disappointed, we have nothing but praise with regards to the overall hotel experience. Food at breakfast was always top-notch, while the club lounge experience was fantastic (good scenery, good variety of food, and the staff also remembered my name). The location of the hotel was also very convenient. We would definitely stay at Hotel Jen again if we come back to Penang.

Hotel Jen had the most excellent service! The rooms were comfortable and the facilities were wonderful! Toilets (which are so important for me! ) were pristine! Shout out to all the Foodies out there! You have to try their Dirty Milkshakes! Perfect blend of ice (that's so important! ), milk, and flavour (they have a variety! Sadly I couldn't try them all. ) topped with the perfect amount of whipped cream and flavoured wafer. The only thing I felt could be improved on, was the variety served at their continental breakfast. This review doesn't allow 4.5 stars, but Hotel Jen definitely deserves more than 4 stars, so 5 stars it is!

My partner and myself had a wonderful stay at your establishment. The staff were very attentive from the get go. Check in was a breeze, staff keeps a constant look out to see anyone in queue and efficiently guides guests to the nearest available counter for queries etc. It is the simple acknowledgement of seeing the guests in queue, that ensures them that they would be served as soon as possible that makes the difference.
Breakfast time is one of the busiest at cafe Jen and a queue forms quickly at the entrance as the number of guests waiting to dine do sometimes surpass the amount of tables available. Despite such a busy time, the staff were very polite and efficient. Trying their level best to seat guests quickly by clearing tables and setting up as fast as they can. It is all a well coordinated effort lead by Mr Lingesh and team at Cafe Jen. It is all a service with a smile and all request is met with a polite response and they can't seem to be doing enough for the guest despite such a busy morning at the Cafe.
A few hours after checking out, I discovered that I have left my ring by the bedstand. Call to the hotel was promptly answered and staff (Mr. Asraf and a security personal) quickly went to retrieve my ring. A return call to inform me that it has been found and who to contact to collect my ring. Truly I could not be more grateful.

Check in and check out process — smooth room condition — clean and well done. I love the decor esp the Moroccan style tiles. location — perfect price — a bit pricey compare to the previous rate before renovation. Maybe the hotel management can provide attractive rates for returning customer.

Room replacement items are not in time. The imposition of a room tourism tax should inform visitors beforehand. Other things are OK.

Everything is good, the inconvenient place is the hotel from the parking lot is a bit of a hassle. If there is a lift directly from the parking lot straight to the hotel room floor is better. Thank you.

Hotel Jen Penang is great in that it allows guests to choose to eat breakfast either at the cafe or at the club lounge. Its location is perfect for shopping and sightseeing. Staff at the club lounge and at the cafe were all very friendly and helpful too. ON check out, we were presented with some mars bars because we were disturbed early morning by a false fire alarm caused by a guest who smoked in his room, didnt expect the nice gesture.

Overall, it was a pleasant stay. Love the lobby ambiance! But on first day morning while I was getting ready, the room keeper rang the bell and asked if he could clean the room. Of course not in the while, I suggested him to come back after I left.

Happy with the size of the room, ample and place enough to place your things in case you are more than 3 days in the area. Nice facilities in general.

My husband and I had a very pleasant stay at your hotel from 2-6 Jan 2018. Great start to the new year! Great location that's near to most recommended places for local food. Shopping and cinema in 1st Avenue Mall just beside your hotel is a bonus. Kudos to front office staff, concierge & housekeeping… thank you Hotel Jen!

This hotel has been completely renovated. I like the new lift lobby especially. The whole hotel now projects a vibrant feel, unlike before. New room furniture's have replaced the previously aged ones with new concept and colour themes. The concept suits the World Heritage Site status of George Town as a whole. Hotel staffs were as friendly and courteous as before. Kudos to the hotel management and team.

From the moment my parents arrived, they went out of their way to ensure they were comfortable and looked after. Unfortunately, a week into their trip, my mother who used to be a local, went missing. The way the staff cared for and helped my Dad will never be forgotten. In an instant they acted as family and helped him through some of the hardest days of his life. Our family thanks you for your incredible service and assistance. Further to this, we simply cannot thank you enough for your kindess and compassion. Even now, Ody and Thiru are still in touch asking after our family.

My review is solely for the hi-tea Christmas hi-tea buffet and nothing else. Walking into the cafe jen through the lobby, you will see that this place is actually quite lovely. The cafe service was alright and there weren't any major hiccups that I encountered. But in terms of price, this place is not cheap for a Christmas hi-tea buffet (RM98/person regardless if you are an adult or senior citizen). The food and dessert were actually quite good. However, I realized there weren't a lot of variety compared to the buffet in other Penang hotels and this works against the place due to its high price. Bottomline, do I think it is worth to come here again? To each his own. I see this place as one that you could come to enjoy once in a while during a special occasion or celebration. It is not perfect but perfection doesn't exist in any place regardless of their name and popularity.

Everything okay, except the cleaning of bathroom drain sometimes forgotten. Water goes down slow because of the debris and hair stuck in the drain. Breakfast is good but they should provide separate convention/conference guests' breakfast venue to make sure the other hotel guests get table at the breakfast floor. The breakfast floor is quite small.

In the city center, on the sidelines there are delicious 梹 City snacks, very convenient, the staff is very polite, the hotel is very clean,

Love this newly renovated hotel run by Shangri-la. Staff are helpful and warm, they have clean room. Great value for money.

-Small surprise of the hotel found on the table of the room on our arrival (for our 10 years with my baby) — well located, a 2 steps from 2 Mall, a 10 mins walk to the Little India and the main streets to visit-clean and comfortable. Very friendly staff.

Centrally located hotel. Well appointed rooms, with pretty little touches. Very practical and efficient. Affordable too. Breakfast could be managed a little better.

Stay overnight in this hotel. It was a very lovely experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet have a very wide spread and delicious local food. Location is superb, right next to Prangin Mall and middle of town. They also provide shuttle service to Golden Sands Resort, their sister hotel for guest to enjoy the beach and pool. Hotel Jen is a nice place to stay staffs at the hotel are pleasant n polite. All day dinning at 2flr. Have wide range of food. The Bar n Restaurant Manager n his assistant make us feel welcome especially to families n elderly.

Nice location and easily get to everywhere. The service is good and the staff is professional and patient. Room is very clean but the size is bit of under my expectation.

Overall it has a good ambiance to it but its a bit disappointing with their loo which doesn't provide any water hose… IF YOU'RE DOING THE SECOND ONE… coz MUSLIMS WILL WASH UP USING WATER and NEVER… NEVER… EVER WIPE THEIR ASS USING ONLY TOILET PAPER UNLESS ITS AN EMERGENCY!

Great Hotel to stay in Penang, free shuttle service to their partner resort Golden Sands, next to one of the best Malls in Penang, literally in the middle of the inter section that can take you everywhere in the island, newly renovated, nice outdoor pool and finally kind staff that did their best and took the extra mile to service the guests and help them around. Next time I will be staying with Jen hotel for sure. One problem that they need to address is the noise isolation in walls and doors (you can hear your neighbors and people talking in the corridors). *Note: if I were to talk about more good stuff, it's going to be an essay ☺️.

No frills hotel in the middle of Georgetown. They're currently undergoing renovations to the main areas, but the rooms seems to have had their facelifts, so it's all rather nice. I'd certainly stay here again if ever next in Georgetown, Penang.

Looking good hotel, great location. I wouldn't not recommend take massage there though. Swimming pool is open till 19, was a bit small, but good.

Parking was a bit of an issue however I do understand the circumstances as it is currently under renovation. The rooms are beautiful and location is perfect for a city getaway. You can easily walk to the heritage zone or even the mall next door.

Jul-9, Nice stay. Lobby under construction, reserve for high floor to avoid noise. Everything good except sound insulation, can hear ppl talking on corridors. 4 stars hotel with reasonable price. Will come back again next stay, hopefully can have free breakfast upgrade next time.

Really enjoyed our visit. Hotel is a little old but everything is kept in good condition.

Hotel is old really needs to refurbish. I desperate wish to have a bidet shower for hygiene purpose. Not friendly user for wheelchair or elderly, have difficulty to shower my mom, no shower head. Housekeeping is bad, the room tables and surface wasn't clean for the past 4 days stay on the Club Floor. Breakfast and Canapes range provided was limited.

Arrived at 1:30pm to check in but was told room will only be available after 3pm. However when we return at 4:30pm, the room numbers were changed, with one of the room located next to the lift, with apparent reasons why that room was available. Though there were few other personnel at the reception, we have to wait quite long to get our room keys which I think the management need to improve the hotel system to allow faster check in. The 3 stars are for the hotel staff who are most courteous and great service provided to us. Have stayed here from the times, the hotel was 5 stars, then became 4 stars, and now 3 stars with change in name. The hotel need to be renovated.

Used to be called Shangrila then Traders hotel and now Jen. Used to be the Business hotel in town but more competitors now. Still favoured for its central location and OK prices and services.

Book this hotel and check in on 6th June 2015. If you drive, never stay in this hotel! The traffic is jam like hell surrounding this hotel and short of parking lot. I promise that I will never book this hotel again.

Great service, great location, but cleaning and maintenance could be better in the rooms. The mildew smell and dust is extreme for allergy sufferers. I stayed in two different spots on the 16th floor (Trader's Club) and had the same experience. All the buildings are moldy in Penang, but at a 4-5 star joint I would expect more effort.
