Greeted by a baby lizard when I opened my room door. For the price, is a relatively decent and clean room otherwise.

I came to Laos for a three months internship and booked a room for two weeks from Germany to have no stress on site to find acomodation, a motorbike and get first orientation at my new workplace. For me it was a really good decision. I arrived in a clean room with air condition and was very happy to take a warm shower after 15 hrs flight. The hotel owner speaks good English and his wife as well the employees, everyone is very friendly and tries to help you finding first orientation in the new environment. The offered laundry service is only 15.000 KIP per bag and you can also rent a motorbike there for 50 % less the price that it normally costs at other places. When you rent the bike as a hotel guest, you don't have to give your passport or high amounts of money as security, that is just great and helped me a lot to discover the city, visit apartments and looking for my own motorbike very independently. I also enjoyed the included breakfast. You get coffee, tea, toast, eggs, jelly, rice, vegetables, sausages and more. You can save time compared to preparing it for yourself and sleep longer in the morning before work — which I definitely needed in the beginning of my stay in Laos when I tried to make new contacts and drink some Beerlao with my new colleagues ;) All in all I enjoyed the time at Oulayphet Hotel and can warmly recommend it, especially if you think about staying in a hostel instead.
