The owner was incredibly kind, funny, and welcoming. Even though we didn't speak the same language, we somehow always managed to understand each other. He creates such a warm and positive atmosphere that guests naturally come together and socialize. I heard that his son speaks fluent English (I haven't met him yet cause I was too busy), but honestly the owner himself was more than enough to make everyone feel at home.
The location is excellent. The hostel is situated closer to the cultural Old Town, but the shopping and entertainment area is only a few minutes away on foot. If you're craving bubble tea, ice cream, or a good meal, there are several great options just around the corner.
The hostel itself was clean and comfortable. The showers had hot and cold water, and I slept like a baby every night. I stayed in the female only room, which has three beds and felt cozy and quiet. The mixed dorm also looked nice, with beds equipped with privacy curtains.
The air conditioning worked perfectly, which was important during the heat. I also used the laundry facilities without any issues. As a lovely bonus, the owner shared some cherries and apples with me, and they were delicious!
For sightseeing, the hostel offers transportation to Sauran and Otrar. The prices were 15, 000 tenge for Sauran, 15, 000 tenge for Otrar, or 30, 000 tenge for both, with the cost shareable among up to four people. I chose to organize my own trip, but it's great that the option is available.
