Dimal Hostel Almaty Hostel

Nice clean place in a good location. Friendly and helpful staff — good English speakers. It cost me 1500 KZT from Almaty airport using the Yandex taxi app and took about 20 minutes. Wifi was OK but the beds are a little harder than I am used to. Tip: bring soap.

I stayed eight nights in this hostel, and I am very much pleased with my experience. I had to be in US Consulate so locationwise it was perfect. Safe and clean neighborhood. Friendly and helpful stuff. Highly recommended. Thanks, A.

The good: Convenient location, walking distance to many public transit options or you could walk to anything worth seeing in the city within half hour of the hostel. Big shopping mall across the street with anything you might need. Spotlessly clean and still has the new feel to it (only a year old). Spacious dorm rooms, lots of power outlets, curtains that wrap around the whole bed for privacy, no footboards (for tall people). Sweet older lady that I interacted with the most. The not so good: Nickel and diming you for everything that I have never seen other hostels charge for — want help calling a taxi? There is a fee. Need help with translation? There is a fee. Help yourself to tea or coffee, but … there is a fee. Want a locker? Need to deposit more than the cost of the accommodation. You get the idea. A number of tour options were posted, but bizarrely all of them only run on weekends. Breakfast was not included as it is at every other hostel in town that charges half the price. Wifi was generally ok but sometimes slowed down to a crawl. Beds were too soft — very soft mattresses sitting atop horizontal (not vertical) springs so they gave in even more so you were laying a cocoon without any sort of back support. A very squeaky and uncomfortable one. Location inside a business center meant that you had to find another way in after 9pm and no heads up was given at the check in (and no signs posted anywhere at the business center entrance).

This is a great hostel for singles, family and traveling company. Comfortable, clean, atmospheric. The staff are doing a great job, but also still very friendly and sociable. Location is good, in an expensive neighborhood. Opposite a huge supermarket and other benefits around. In General — certainly praise this hostel DimAL, I wish you prosperity and many clients.

Dimal Hostel is by far the best hostel I have stayed in during my trip to Central Asia. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful, the facilities are very clean, the showers are hot, and the Wi-Fi is fast and consistent. The hostel is located in a very safe part of the city with relatively close access to the center of Almaty — it is about a 20-30 minute walk and a very short taxi ride. I would recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a high quality place to stay for a fantastic price ($7/night).
