The breakfast is definitely the best part of the hotel. There's plenty of options from traditional Japanese cuisine to western. I didn't think the bed was all that comfortable though and the location was good since it was right next to nishiki market and other shopping centers.

Room is good, service is also very good, but the location is a bit far, to go to duck Chuan, new Beijing pole all need more than 20 minutes. Nearby convenience stores, supermarkets, life function is very good.

This hotel is in a good location. It's near to Gion where all the interesting restaurants are. Small streets with bars and eateries Also a short taxi ride from To-Ji a 5 tier temple with good flea market on 21st of every month. Good cafe Mon just a quick walk away from hotel turn right on opposite side of the road. Also Starbucks.

The room is bigger and cheaper than in Tokyo. The design is retro and cute. Hotel staff are a little turse but efficient. Nishiki market is within walking distance.

A good boutique hotel with very attentive staff. The room was quite comfortable. Very convenient as it is located near transit.

Friendly staff upon arrival. The hotel is decorated in sort of an art deco style and is pretty funky. You get free bottles of water each day and best of all you get "Handy, " a free mobile phone to use around Kyoto with internet and hotel information. Very useful!

This hotel was definitely worth the price we paid during the busy spring vacation/high tourism season. The hotel staff was lovely enough and I adored the older gentleman working in the car park that would help us hail a taxi whenever we couldn't manage ourselves. The cons: Air con/ heater seemed to lack a filter and the air was extra dry. The carpet around the bed was cleaned the bare minimum. The double room for two only had one outlet near the bed and the other outlets were hard to get any sort of bulky charger on. Closet was awkward (to share). They charge 1000 yen fee for lost or non-returned card keys. This is all manageable but the hotel Wi-Fi (which is free) lacked a password system, so anyone could use it and it was of course as slow as a snail. Their cable cards (1000 yen a day) were not at all worth buying, and I was a little annoyed by how many times a channel appeared and came up as unavailable. Going back to the room to unwind was just a bit difficult because of these last two things… Again lovely staff, English OK, but you should go there to crash and shower and nothing more.

Well connected and close to the Kyoto station. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are very good.

The hot spring on the 13 floor is fantastic! The tenant uses a price of 1 770 yen per person. There is a sauna, a pool of cold springs, three pools of indoor hot springs and a pool of outdoor hot springs.
Provide towel bath towel bathrobe, comb placed in ultraviolet sterilizer, after use has a special recycling box, hair dryer is a negative ion hair dryer!
Last admission 10:30, open to 11:00pm we are 10:20 rushed in, although the time is not much, but still feel quite worth it! Rooms are quite comfortable, there is a free smart phone for temporary stay of the car to use, very good!

Quite expensive for the services rendered.

Excellent location, somewhat away from the central station to go on foot (about 30 min) but steps from the metro. By 210 And you can reach in 10 min to Kyoto station. The service is great also. You go up to the suitcase to the room!

Chic hotel in the buisness district of kyoto. It's a 30min walk or 8min train ride from kyoto station. If you book at the right time the price is reasonable with my stay including breakfast at 14000 yen. The hotel has a onsen but its not included in the stay so it's an additional cost of 1700 yen for 1 time entry or 2200 yen for as many times as you like. When checking in ask for the discount ticket and it costs 1200 yen for 1 entry. What's great with this somewhat expensive priced onsen is not many people go so it's quite relaxing. Breakfast on the other hand is not relaxing at all… The layout of the restaurant is strange and all the foods are spread out to all four corners and a Japanese section in the middle, the food is good but the layout is strange with people wandering around lost trying to gather food. The rooms remind me of a Paris hotel with the design and my room had a oversized bed (two queen beds put together) which I guess would be good with a partner or family but wasteful on your own.

In this hotel near many museums, bike rentals. The staff has lots of maps and documents useful to a tourist. Highly recommended for those who travel alone. Very close to two important metro lines and private.

The staff was very helpful Comfortable room and with all the optional, as the Japanese tradition wants. Strategically located for the city tour. A Stone's throw from the local market. From Kyoto Castle and the quaint neighbourhood of Gion. Near the stop for the direct bus to the Templar area.

Very comfortable and very affordable spa.

Second time in Monterey this year. The deal was always nice as discounts can be found easily for what you get in condition and service. Though they still are in good condition, I don’t really know what happened within such a short time as the beginning and ending of 2017, where the supplies provided before, a full set of Shiseido body wash travelers’ set, now is gone as I came in December the same year. Overall this does not stop me from giving them a full 5 star, but I really hope that they don’t downgrade themselves any more in the future.

STAY AWAY from Hotel Monterey! We had booked a room prepaid at Yen 11’500. On check-in they tried to bilk us for a room charge of an additional Yen 20’000. We of course refused and left for the 5 star hotel Okura, the best hotel in Kyoto, who took mercy on us hearing our story and only charged Yen 17’000. — — — I just read the answer from Monterey, which is just a "copy and paste", to cover any negative review. There is NOTHING about what actually happened and how to possibly address their problems! Just shows how much Monterey actually care about their "guests" – Monterey do not care at all! Monterey only care about trying to get as much of your money as possible. Shame on Monterey!

We are here for 3 days 2 nights. It's our first time to Kyoto. The first day when we arrived at the hotel. The hot spring and spa is closed due to the maintenance. And the second day when we came back it's already 10:40pm but it's closed either. For the entire stay, we don't have any time to enjoy it. Open too late and close too early. No one informed when we check in. Upset experience.

Hotel space Room is not small, room clean, and every floor to swipe into, very safe. Location is very good, metro station next to, the small drawback is the most convenient bus in Kyoto, bus station needs to walk to four pills (the bus stop in front of the hotel only general 65th bus, and can go to very few places), but walk is not far away, about 5 minutes away from the arrival. Side function is good, supermarkets, super merchants are very close. There is a bath on the top floor, but there is an extra charge, and the exorbitant cost is the part that is not satisfied this time. On the whole, leisure not cover the risk.

Clean and efficient. Room a bit tight, bed was huge (2 pushed together), took up more space than the room itself. Concierge was more than helpful. Would recommend.

Nice rooms. Medium sized which is good for Japan. Very clean. Helpful staff.

I had my wedding at Hotel Monterey Kyoto and it was absolutely fantastic. Some of the guests didn't speak any Japanesr and the staff made sure that they had English speakers on hand. The entire staff were very helpful and made the entire experience that much better. The food was excellent and its presentation was great. The staff made sure my wife and I knew what to do every step of the way and it really took away and nerves I had. I would definitely recommend Hotel Monterey Kyoto as a wedding venue.

Nicely appointed hotel, British flavor. Slide out mattress allows two adults to sleep with plenty of room.

Good location with lots of shops and restaurants close by. Easily accessible by train (closest one is about 50m away) but I didn't know and walked here from Kyoto train station (about 45 min walk but there are temples and shops along the way to visit). Rooms are small but comfortable and well equipped. Hotel has onsen on top level but you will need to pay extra to access it, it is NOT included in your hotel price. We did not know until after we paid for our rooms as it is not mentioned anywhere before booking/paying. Staff are very polite and speak English fairly well. Overall good for staying in but would have been nice if we'd known the onsen is extra as we chose this hotel because it had onsen.

Fantastic accommodations conveniently located. We caught a great deal on this place in the off season and used it as our base of operations to see the sights around Kyoto. We would absolutely go here again!

I would like to praise Monterey Kyoto for its service.

Stayed in January 2016. Staff speaks moderate/some English which is disappointing compared to other hotels in the area. Rooms are cramped, even by urban Japanese standards. Very put off by a concierge desk unwilling to assist in a number of dinner requests. The routine answer became a sort of figure it out on your own as we won't be troubled to assist. Very unlike the superb customer oriented experience we have had elsewhere in Kyoto. Staff also seemed very confused with common western names and nearly cancelled another reservation with a similar name when we checked in. Stay here only if you require minimal interaction with staff.

Clean, though a bit cramped (even by urban Japanese standards). We had booked a room with two double beds but unfortunately ended up in a room with a full/queen… not sure how that happened. Front desk staff are extremely communicative, helpful, and comfortable in English. Housekeeping service lags; after putting a "Please Make Up The Room" sign around noon, the room was still unmade when we returned at 7PM. Would be helpful if they offered an improved discount to the gym across the street (Y2500 discounted to Y2250! ummm…) Will be staying elsewhere on my next trip to Kyoto.

I stayed at the Monterey Hotel for 3 nights in January 2014. It is an excellent hotel with comfortable rooms and a helpful (english speaking) staff. Its central location at the intersection of the two subway lines in Kyoto makes it perfect for sightseeing. I would definitely stay here again.

I highly recommend. The rooms are furnished with air conditioning, kettle, dimmable lighting. The bathroom was super clean, with bath. Very friendly staff. Everything went smoothly and quickly. Very discreet as I find does not need at the reception over if one assumes. Only drawback, the air conditioning was slightly noisy.

Had a great stay. Front desk had someone who spoke English and their service was excellent. Rooms were well appointed and very comfortable. Hotel has a great location near markets and shopping.
