At first, we were simply looking for accommodation with a traditional Japanese house style and came across many great reviews about Arai Stay House.

A wonderful little ryokan in the outskirts of Nikko. I stayed 2 nights in February and had the whole place, including the private onsen, to myself.

Nice quiet hotel in the historical center of Nikko. Very close to the shrines and temples of Nikko, and you can easily drive to the lake Chuzenji, different waterfalls and other nice nature places.

Went there to explore nikko natural park. The location is perfect for it. The hostel is very clean, beds are comfortable and soft.

I usually stay at hostels while traveling and this place ranks near my personal top, not only in Japan. Takeru is a wonderful host, showed me the most popular hikes and helped me with rain gear.

It is a cosy and clean hostel that feels like staying at a friend's home. Sato, the host, is very welcoming and thoughtful, he has made sure that we have all we need for our convenience.

Highly recommend this pension in Kinugawa onsen. Rooms are simple but comfortable with 1.6m width big bed.

Positive: The breakfast was excellent; the spread was great and very varied. The room was also very comfortable and spacious — we had lots of space for three.

Well located, very easy access to the centre of Kusatsu. The whole place is nice and cozy. Shower is very good, warm and with good water pressure.

There is a rule that you can't check in past 10pm, which may make European and American travelers nervous, since they are used to late trains and front desks of hostels staffed all night.

We had an amazing experience in this hostel. We visited Kinugawa onsen in January which seemed very quiet but was a great experience.

I have stayed in many guesthouses before, and this is one of the guesthouse I like the most. It is very clean and comfortable. The common space is also cozy.

This is a very nice small hostel. Bottom floor is the dining/bar area with plenty of places to sit and unwind after a day of exploring. If you don’t feel like cooking, order some great food.

The staff was knowledgeable about the area, helped us workout our travel plans. Really enjoyed their drinks and food.

Perfect for a solo, minimalist traveler. The bunks were perfectly cozy with an adequate amount of room both in the bunk and next to it for your gear and to change clothes.

The guesthouse was super nice. The hosts were so friendly and welcoming. Everything was clean and the location was very close to JR and Tobu station so super convenient.

The hotel is right next to Nasushiobar Station. The check-in with the receptonist was smooth and easy. The room was spotless clean! Nothing to complain.

The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are also larger than in a typical business hotel. The Wi-Fi password is written in the booklet in the table drawer.

It's a bit far from the station, but there's a convenience store nearby, and even if you buy breakfast the day before, you can get plenty of pork soup, a buffet-style side dish, and natto for 900 yen.

Love the cute old house. The whole place is super clean. Our room was private. It was quite large, with a querosene heater (smelled a bit). Price is great and the internet is super fast.

A cozy guesthouse having very lovely traditional rooms with tatami floor, futon is sooo comfy I fell asleep instantly.

The Akasawa Onsen Inn is an amazing place to stay. The rooms are big, comfortable and decorated in the traditional Japanese way. The food is excellent and the service is really very good.

Excellent service with kind staff and very well maintained comfortable rooms. Rooms were big enough to fit 3 people with separate beds and a sofa. We’ll definitely use this hotel again.
