Very friendly hosts. Well equipped room and lobby with snacks, drinks and a little library available; Wi-Fi works reliable — and, as mentioned, very friendly hosts, that even brought us to the station because of the rain and being too early for a cab. ありがたうございます!

The staff are good company; very friendly. Location is beautiful in the mountains of Nikko, and a walkable distance from the Nikko train station, but the staff will drive you up to the lodge too. Very homey environment with little knick knacks everywhere. It's not fancy, but if you are in Nikko and need a place to sleep, this is a fine choice. They also offer a couple good dinner options for a reasonable price.

Musty smell, trash bin in the hallway leading to the rooms, amazing cold in winter time and awkward breakfast. Run!

Bed bugs were in the beds and have multiple bites. Wouldn't recommend this place at all.

The hostel/hotel is located a bit away from the city with no public transport, but the surroundings are beautiful. You can get a ride to the hotel from their Tobu station branch between 15 and 17, and also to the city at 9:30. It is possible to walk, though I wouldn't recommend it in case you have a suitcase… The owner is very nice and everyone speaks english. You can pay by credit card. Breakfast and dinner options are also available. We got a double room with a private bathroom. Could hear guests snoring and a couple of times accidentally walking into our room. The bed was huge and comfortable. Overall a great experience and we definitely feel we got our money's worth!

Nice hotel/hostel in Nikko, about 1 hour walk from the Temple zone.

Excellent hostel, owner speaks English fluently as do most of the staff. Nice location on type of a mountain, takes about 10 minutes to walk to from downtown. The hostel is very cozy and unique. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Could use bigger bathrooms. I definitely suggest staying here.

Nice, quiet place to stay. Location isn't great, about 20-25 minute uphill walk from Tobu-Nikko Station. Facilities were good, and desk clerk was very friendly and helpful with directions around Nikko. Free bag storage was provided at their 2nd location next to the train station.

It's cheap, and a great view, but be warned it's next to abandoned buildings… it's on the north side of all the action and any restaurants.

Very nice place to stay. No too far from temple and tran station. You can go by walk.

Great hotel, almost family atmosphere for reasonable price, tasty meals and welcoming owner. I can only recommend. There is a free shuttle from the Nikko station, the times are limited, however and it is better to contact the hotel — even in English.

My wife and I loved our time here. It was packed with Australians like us and wonderful homely feeling. Sure it wasn't as spotless as the many hotels we stayed in during our 5 week road trip BUT… how tidy is your house when you have a dozen visitors? I am happy to rate it as a 5… It is the only hotel in all of Japan where we felt "at home". Thanks for a wonderful experience. Ken and Michele… Brisbane Australia…

Nice cosy place. Cosy living with huge tv. Dorm is a bit too small and crowded for me.

Fumbling but friendly service. Included dinner and breakfast was tasty and good coffee in morning. Easy to walk downhill to station 15min but going up would be a struggle. Double bed single room was huge. Shuttle bus Service is a mystery, I ended up taking a taxi because they didn't answer the phone.

When we booked the room from the hostel's site, it is quoted with one price, but when we arrived, we are surprised by +1000 JPY per person. after explaining it out, the owner agreed to charge with the price shown on their website. the owner is kind and helpful, but overall but we were a bit uncomfortable with the room-charge conversation.

I booked a room at the mountain lodge for the 31st of December (today), and have been told to go to the one closest to the station between 3 and 5pm in order to call the car which will accompany us to the mountain lodge. When I arrived at the one closest to the station, I've been told that they've made a "mistake" and that I can't have a room at the mountain, but there's one for me at the station one. I was really disappointed as a friend of mine recommended me this place. No word of apology from the staff! I highly recommend to NOT use this place. I can't believe such a terrible service in Japan, and especially a touristic place like Nikko.

For both dinner and breakfast, the food took more than one hour to arrive after the stated starting time. The "Zen" dinner included a kaminabe that stayed raw because the candle was wrong. There was not a word of apology.
