First, stay at another place if you have a choice. Second, if you have no choice, then dont expect much or expect nothing at bed. It's not a hostel, actually it is an old house of an old couple. — Dirty — Have to pay to use hot water in the shower — 14 people packed in a small room, shoulder to shoulder when sleeping — No air-conditioner — No usable Wifi But there is 2 good points: 1. Location: Not so far from Hakodate Station, you can walk there by foot ~30m or around 10m to the nearest bus station. At night you can enjoy the night-life in a pretty downtown-atmostphere with some restaurants of Hokkaido food. 2. There is a 7-eleven convinient store right at the left side of the hostel. Yeah, that's all. You should book a place early before you come to Hakodate especially in August.
HORRIBLE! DO NOT GO THERE! You either sleep in a garage (not kidding — a garage) with motorcycles and open door, rooms with way too many people inside where it smells like dog and pee or you sleep (like me) in a room without windows and old mattresses and blankets inside. It grossed me out. I did not take a shower (cost extra) there or used the bathroom, because it was dirty and disgusting. One word: EWWWW!

Japanese style budget backpackers in a great location within walking distance of Hakodate park, Hakodate station and many of the city's tourist attractions. The rooms and facilities are very basic and there is only one toilet in the whole place. The owners were friendly and helpful despite having limited English and their dog Basil is adorable and very approachable. You have to pay ¥100 for 10 mins of hot water in the shower which is a bit ridiculous. Could do with a bit of a clean but it's really not as bad as some of these reviews make it out to be.
