SEMERU HOSTEL MALANG

Great hostel, perfect chill hangout before going on any tours in East Java. Semeru hostel are super convenient and organise their tours themselves and are decently priced. Went on the Bromo, ijen, Tumpak Sewu 3 day tour which was super well organised by Nadya, Benne and the local tour guides, would 100% recommend.

I loved this very welcoming hostel, with a fully equipped kitchen, sofas, board games, a terrace, and lovely decor. Plus, there's a great atmosphere with the other guests. The price is very reasonable; I highly recommend it!

We had a super comfortable stay at Semeru hostel! All accommodations were always clean, the kitchen was fully equipped, the shared common rooms were very inviting to hang out and meet other people. The staff was very helpful in organizing all the tours for us. We would definitely come back! Thank you! :D.

Great driver. Great locations. But dishonest company. Just to fill everyone in that this company has not been able to take people down to the actual blue fire in April 2026. They have known about it this whole time and are just barely making guests aware on their Instagram story today. They have made fake statements about taking people down there. They also posted pictures about said people. The blue fire they take you to is fake. They put some flammable concoction with something that makes it blue and light it with a lighter on a rock. Not real. Anyone making it to the real blue fire is told they are not allowed to go down there and that it is against the law. Our group was told by the guide that if we went down there we could get in big trouble. And that he would not be going down there (even though he was our guide and that was literally what he was supposed to do). He said that we could go down, but we may or may not get in trouble with the LAW. None of us went down bc we don’t want to go to jail in Indonesia. That would suck. So we get back and I write a review about it. And the semeru hostel tell me I am wrong and that the only reason I didn’t see the blue fire was b/c of bad luck and all this other garbage. I just relooked at their response today and they have completely changed their response. Not in a good way. But they realize they messed up now, but have not admitted it or apologized to our group for being dishonest to us about our trip. They just want the numbers.

Comfortable and clean hostel that is very central. Kind host and clean/modern facilities. Extremely good hostel for the price!

Nice hostel. We, four people, stay in mix dormitory room. Standard service. Good room. Clean toilet and bathroom. Sleep well.

The hostel is in a great, strategic location — just a 5–10 minute drive to the train station. A huge thank you to Eko for his kindness and helpfulness; thanks to him, we discovered the restaurant right next door, which serves delicious local food — definitely worth trying!
We also booked the Bromo tour through the hostel and couldn’t be happier. Our driver, Djoni, was absolutely amazing — such a friendly, social guy who made the whole trip even more enjoyable with his great conversation and positive energy.
The rooms are very clean, and there’s a spacious common area plus a kitchen. There isn’t a large locker for big bags, but there’s a small one perfect for passports, money, and other valuables.

Staying here was such a wonderful experience. It honestly felt like stepping into a cozy Ghibli movie set. The place is warm, pretty, and comfortable, with all the essentials for a good night’s rest.
But what really made my trip unforgettable was the East Java waterfalls and volcanoes tour that I booked through the hostel. The entire 3D2N package was beyond amazing, super well-organized, very reasonable in price, and the stays arranged along the way were much better than expected.
The tour guides at each stop were incredible, respectful, kind, and full of good energy, making every moment memorable.
A special shoutout to our driver, Benny, truly the heart of our trip. He wasn’t just a driver, but a guide, friend, and all-around amazing person. Always patient, helpful, and looking out for us. He shared stories, cracked jokes, and made the long drives so much fun. His genuine kindness and upbeat personality added so much warmth to the whole experience. Honestly, the trip wouldn’t have been the same without him.
If you’re heading to East Java, I can’t recommend Semeru Hostel and their tours enough. It’s an experience you’ll never forget. 🌋✨

One of the best hostels I’ve stayed at! Everything was super clean and the chilling area was nice and open, surrounded by plants so very relaxing. Eko was great, so funny and friendly, he made our stay!

The hostel was lovely! Echo was so helpful with any questions we asked. We did Mount Bromo tour through the hostel and we got a lovely guide — Patrick. He was amazing so friendly and helpful, he was also very good at taking photos! Really good tour!

The place is really comfy ‘cause its clean & classic.
Although many windows & outdoor but the weather isn’t hot ‘cause there are many trees.
Complete facilities ranging from beds,
Separate toilets & bathrooms (toilet near communal space, bathroom near the living room),
Lockers to store personal items (expensive things should be brought to the bed ‘cause the lockers are keyless),
Also kitchen that provides free tea & coffee, brew it yourself, wash it yourself (self service).
Aaand last but not least, the location is very strategic, but not noisy from the hustle and bustle of Malang city center.
My 1st solo trip to Malang was only one day, if I go to Malang again, I’ll definitely stay here again!

So I did the jeep tour up Mount Bromo through these and it was incredible. Unfortunately we had a wet and foggy morning however it was still a proper adventure and well worth doing. Great communication from booking to pickup location and times. Breakfast was a great addition and the driver and guide were exceptional. Lots of information great driving and some great pictures taken. All round great experience and would highly recommend anyone thinking about this to book it!

If I could give them 10 stars, I would give them 11. I stayed here for 2 nights and ended up having one of the most memorable moments of my life. The staff were truly amazing and hospitable, making me feel like home right in the beginning. On top of that, their tour organization is top-notch with dedicated drivers and guides with reasonable prices.

I can’t say anything about the hostel itself as we didn’t stay there but we decided to go for a 3 days trip organised by semeru hostel which was best decision ever! Friendly and helpful staff, fantastic places to rest and good food. And the views — everything was perfect!

Amazing homestay, I had a great time here and can absolutely reccommend it. The family are so kind and helpful, which really went a long way helping me plan my trip to make the most of my time. The decor is very warm, cozy and homely — very comfortable and aesthetic. The rooms are very comfortable, good curtains and beds, and the bathrooms were nice and clean. Location is perfect; not far from the train station and many great food spots. I didn't take their Bromo tour (instead drove myself up, can reccommend too! ) but I heard great things and they let me store my bag here overnight which was really kind. Thanks for making my time in Malang amazing!
