Huize Jon Hostel

I am a solo traveler who planned to stay in Malang for day trips to Sewu waterfall and Bromo crater back in May. Huize Jon Hostel is just an amazing and clean youth hostel to stay with super friendly staff and great location! I wasn't exepcting too much for Malang because my original travel destinations were Sewu and Bromo, but both Malang this nostalgic and wonderful city and this hostel amazed me in a way that I didn't expect. There are quite many Indonesian sculptures there and you could also get coffee there as well!

We were a group of 6 people and the host Afghat was super nice to us. He helped us finding a mini-market opened late a night to get some food. He woke up at three am to let two other friends of us in and let them sleep at the hostel without a reservation. In the morning we got free tea and coffee. In addition, the rooms were super clean and the bathroom as well. Thank you for the amazing experience!

Beautiful place with a very convenient location. Super helpful staff that offer all the insides of Malang and surrounding area, great place for tours to Bromo and Ijen. Located close to the train station only a 10 minute walk alot of options for food and sights. Beds and room are nice and clean and hot showers. Can recommend 10/10.

My favourite hostel of my trip so far. Such a good experience getting local knowledge from Jon and his team. Great coffee a good link up for the Bromo tour. Defiantly reccomend.

The dorm beds are very comfortable: privacy curtain, light and plug point. Thick, comfortable mattress. Blanket, top sheet, pillow case all new and good quality given. Towel available on request for free.
Hot shower, very hot, never runs out (gas heater).
AC is cold and you can change the temperature. Good Wi-Fi I use for my online teaching.
Nice balconies up and downstairs.
The place is always clean and modern.
Amazing local family have become like my family. They are very kind, warm, welcoming and helpful. Staff have become like friends.
They also helped me a lot when I left my jewellery on the windowsill next to my dorm bed. They took care of it and kept it safe for me till I returned almost or more than a month later! No theft, full trust and care. They are all like a small family and welcome me like a family member too.
Location is perfect, central close to the train station, JL malioboro and many other sights.
Nice little coffee shop downstairs with a great social vibe, guitar, music, friends, classic decor with an antique Dutch theme.
I highly recommend this place.

Stay was great, hot showers, and clean. As a solo female traveller, I felt very safe! Location is prime as well. They also have a tourist information center and delicious coffee. Highly highly recommend your stay here!

I had a wonderful stay here, they really helped in the arranging of tours. Beds are comfortable and the coffee is good.

Great beds with privacy curtains. The staff are super kind. She (I think her name was Hozi) proactively reaches out to me to explain the tourist attractions in the neighborhood as well as to make sure that I know how to catch my bus.

This is a hostel just to go for tours. The dorm is huge with 12 beds. Most people sleep there or wait for their tours. The facility especially the bathroom and showers looked like it didn't get cleaned in a long time. Due to the lack of cleaning I changed hostels. Tours were great and location as well. They take card payment.
No free drinking water and not enough soap.

The tour to Mount Bromo was absolutely incredible. Our tour guide and jeep driver have been super friendly and in an incredible mood.
They brought us to different spots and even “less touristy” spots.

My recent stay at Huize Jon was absolutely delightful! The owner, Pak Jon, was incredibly friendly and informative, making me feel right at home. I was pleasantly surprised to be offered free coffee, and let me tell you, it was delicious! The entire staff was also incredibly nice and helpful throughout my stay. Can't wait to visit again!

We booked the Bromo tour here. After finding a recommendation in a book, we came here and everything went really smoothly as recommended.
During our booking in the office we had the most beautiful regular tea (shout out to Fikri and Dimas ;-)

We fell in love with this place and this charming city. The hostel’s location is great, Malang center is just around the corner. Maybe 3 min by feet. We also loved the familiar and cozy vibes you get here. It’s a very cute family business. The whole family is just sitting in the hostel‘s owed coffee shop to chat and chill with the guests. You get very easily in touch with locals, we appreciated this a lot. We planned a short stay in Malang during our Indonesia tour, just to see the sun rise in Mount Bromo. But then we met Jon, the passionated Hostel owner, who made our short stay to the memorable highlight of our trip.
His tours are more than the standard you usually get. We never experienced such a passionated and dedicated tour guide. Even if Mount Bromo was heavily crowded, he managed it to get us really special places to watch the magical sunrise. He definitely offered more than we paid for. Unfortunately we did not have the chance to stay longer, otherwise we would have stayed longer in this much underrated city with its magical vibes. Thank u for this awesome experience Jon.

The places we visited were simply beautiful and now and then also a secret spot…
Jon is a very sympathetic, honest and social man. He speaks fluent English, Indonesian and Dutch! This made the tour very authentic.
At the end we drank a delicious coffee in Jon's house, definitely worth a taste!
Looking forward to coming back soon :)
