We stayed here for two nights, as part of a tour arranged by a tour operator. The location is fabulous, right on the beach; and the layout is great with villas arranged around a huge lawn, including a pool and a restaurant.
The breakfast was ok. We had dinner one evening, and the food was average, and sadly the beer wasn't cold. Service was warm and friendly, and the staff really tried their best to provide a good experience.
We had a sea facing room, large room with a verandah, but badly furnished with no place to open bags, etc, It also had an bathroom open to the sky, with lots of greenery. And unfortunately, the room and bathroom had a few lizards. Although lizards are common here, we did not expect them in the room or bathroom. As a result, we asked to change to a different room. Reception was very helpful, and we got a smaller, but better furnished room, with an enclosed bathroom.
The only real complain we have was that we found a lizard inside the hot water kettle in the room. Although the kettle was promptly replaced, this does indicate a lack of maintenance and cleanliness.
Beautiful location with an amazing sea view, perfect for relaxing. We only came for lunch at the restaurant, so we can’t comment on the hotel rooms.
The food was quite good; we enjoyed the prawns, fried banana, and coffee. However, the menu is limited, portions are small, and we were still hungry after lunch.
Service really needs improvement: staff didn’t seem prepared or very attentive, and they didn’t check stock properly. We also noticed that no one came to check on us during our meal. The napkins even had holes in them, which felt careless and unprofessional.
Access is a bit tricky too; you need to drive through a small village with kids playing around, so you have to be careful. The road is bumpy.
Finally, the comfy chairs on the terrace were dirty, with stained cushions, which was not pleasant at all.
This place has a lot of potential thanks to its beautiful view, but it really needs better service, more care for cleanliness, and a few small improvements to make the experience truly enjoyable.

Wow, what a gorgeous, well-planned, friendly resort. Located on the beach in Banyuwangi, right across the strait from Bali, So Long Villas is a unique and utterly charming spot to rest and enjoy the view. Our villa was large, comfortable, and close to the beach (which is not swimmable) and pool, with a stunning view. The "facilities" (toilet, shower, washbasin) are all outside at the back of the unit, looking over a lovely walled courtyard and therefore completely private. Breakfast was fine, but the lunch we had in the restaurant was delicious, as was the cappuccino we enjoyed afterward. Service both at the front desk and in the restaurant was friendly an efficient. The only point that keeps us from giving the So Long Villas five stars was the ubiquitous presence everywhere of Instagrammers and YouTubers; from dawn to dusk, there was an army of people posing and re-posing and posing again, all of which we found distracted from our enjoyment of both the peace and quiet of the resort and the beautiful views. Nevertheless, highly recommended.
