BIG K HOSTEL

Absolutely filthy, and I don‘t have high standards.
— no bedsheets, and the duvet had bloodstains on it.
— spiderweb everywhere inside the room? Like come on.
— pretty sure we got bedbug bites.
— even with thick earplugs you‘re gonna be woken up at 4/5 in the morning because of the near by mosque.

I love stayin here. Everyone is so friendly. Easy to communicate with them. I even borrow a guitar and played it at the balcony 😁. In terms of the room, its pretty nice. I stayed at the mix dorm, the upper bunk, double bed with a mini door. So its pretty nice, especially in the morning 😁. Maybe a bit far to alun², but you could take a nice and slow walk to alun². Burn a bit of carbs then go crazy for the seafood. And if you go to karimun dont forget to go to Ibu Sri. She sell juice as well 😆
A little bit cons, their boss seems a bit into party so you could hear the music a bit loud at night. Other than that, its perfect. Will definitely stay here again.

Had a great stay! The staff was amazing! Special thanks for mas Anet for arranging everything for my busy schedule. Easily the best service I have ever had at a hostel. The reception can arrange anything from tours to motorbike. The room and bathroom was clean and the breakfast delicious! Terima kasih banyak! Sampai Jumpa!

Perfect suit for a solo traveler! walking distance by the port, then you can rent a bike from the hostel.

I extended my stay two times. It's an oasis of serenity located in the middle of the forest. You will enjoy home cooked breakfast by chef Bayu, while sitting on a terrace overlooking the lush greenery. Sometimes, while sipping your unlimited coffee, you may spot a family of monkeys above you, or a shy small comodo dragon finding its way between the trees. The vibe is very relaxed. You can trust the guys running the place with scooter rental, quick laundry services, tips and guidance on your whereabouts on the island. Here I would like to give special thanks to Anet, who helped me on many occasions and now is more a friend than a host. He also helped me progress my bahasa skills and challenged me daily to practise even more.
I stayed in one of the double bed cottages. They are very clean thanks to dedicated morning staff and located on the edge of property giving you a quiet sleep at night. The decor is great, shower hot and aircon blasts cool air just at the right temperature.
The property is just 5min scooter ride from the village square, where you can enjoy fresh seafood after sunset or sip a coffee or beer. I preferred to walk, just for the exercise. It's a 20min walk but bring a torchlight on your way back at night.
The whole area is super safe, and if you have enough willpower to wake up at 4:30, you can enjoy sunrise at one of the beaches located to the east of the Big K.

The Big K hostel has been our home during our stay at Karimunjawa and I can safely recommend it to anyone!
The vibe is amazing, you can chill on your own or with people in various different cozy spots. We stayed in the communal room across the kitchen/lounge. The room is very cozy, with privacy curtains and very clean.
The staff has been very helpful and friendly. You can get almost all information you need about the island from the main desk and also guidance towards the best gems of Karimunjawa.
I got ill and had to stay a lot in the hostel so believe me when I say I was happy and glad we found such a good and relaxed hostel to stay at.

Had a great stay! The staff was very friendly and helpful and the hostel itself was really awesome. Great common area and even a jamming session in the evening every now and then. Highly recommend!

The place is very cute and cozy. It's a wooden bunk bed hostel with separate toilet and bathroom. They have a mini restaurant for breakfast, chill or do some work done. Rooftop with amazing view is also available complete with yoga mats for workout.
One room has 16 beds, 8 bunks on each sides (right and left of the room). I came with 9 of my friends and hoped to get on the same sides or at least the same bunks. Unfortunately we were scattered around and ended up sleeping on top of other groups which is quite inconvenient.
Since it's a wooden house, it's very easy to make creaking sounds. The bed is okay, the blanket is quite thin and it's a bit tricky to climb the bunk stairs. You need to be careful.
The room has AC and Wi-Fi. They managed to keep the place very clean and neat. They also provide lockers to keep your precious possessions.
Overall, my experience was good and I recommend this place if you're looking for something cheap but still cozy.

Truly enjoyed our stay at Big K. Mbak Fani and team took great care of us. On our final day, the folks at the kitchen made us an amazing breakfast too, with smiles on top. Can't be more grateful for the hospitality that we were offered. Thank you so much 💚

WORST experience ever.
1) Service: we arrived late at 7pm, and the staff was very confused when I asked for a towel & pillow, and he said they ran out of the towel because of the full capacity of the hostel. I don’t think the reason could be justified, since I booked the hostel two weeks in advance, they could’ve prevented it.
2) Cleanliness; there are COCKROACHES in my room. I woke up at 4am and found it below my bed. I panicked and called the receptionist, he did helped me to get rid of it but he didn’t say sorry or anything. Later that day my body is very itchy & full of red bump, and I suffered from a stye.
3) Location: quite far from the city center, but reachable with motorbike.
What I love about the hostel is the huge common area on the rooftop. I hope the management would train their staff better on hospitality and improve & maintain the hygiene of the hostel.

We stayed at this wonderful hotel for a week and truly loved everything about our stay there. Clean, spacious double room with great views, perfect location (just outside the busy center of the main town but still close enough to walk there by night), comfortable bed and nice breakfast. The best thing about this place though are the wonderful people who run it. They helped us with everything, from renting a scooter (and quickly fixing it after we had a flat tire) to arranging a much needed money transfer (atm on the island only works for Master Cards! ) and getting us last minute ferry tickets. They also invited us to a boat trip (which we loved! ) and offered lots of activities like snorkeling or hiking trips. If you think about staying there, go ahead and book it already! You‘ll have a great time and support a local family business.

We ended up staying 3 extra nights and could have stayed longer! Great thought-out hostel. Awesome layout with lots of different areas to relax. AC in the dorms worked great. Comfy mattresses. Delicious breakfast included. Great atmosphere in the bar area. Rented scooters without issue. But the highlight was the customer service. Ami the manager is amazing! From meeting us at the harbour to booking our bus tickets as our credit cards weren't working, she was so helpful! She gave us ideas for what to do each day (where to eat, what beach to go to) and arranged snorkelling trips (a must-do! ) and helped everyone at the hostel sort out their boat rides. She was great to talk to to learn more about indonesian culture and share a laugh. It was obvious that she really cares about the guests and ensuring that everyone has a good time. Thank you Ami!

During our visit of Karimun Jawa, we stayed in one of the family units of Big K. On 1 km of habir/alun-alun we enjoyed the very relaxed environment, nice and very clean house. The staff is very alert and a number of activities is offered. Do not miss the snorkeling trip! The bar is nice, offers a good variety of foods and drinks and is quiet in the evening (no loud music). It is also great value for money, I would cordially recommend this place.
