​Gopalan Borobudur is a charming, intimate hotel that offers a truly special experience. Its greatest advantage is its incredible location; it is literally separated from the magnificent Borobudur Temple complex by just a wall, making it perfect for an early sunrise visit before the crowds arrive.
​But the real magic lies in the scenery. The hotel is nestled right next to lush, green rice paddies, offering a serene and beautiful pastoral view. On a clear day, you can see a majestic volcano in the distance. Waking up to watch the sunrise paint the sky, with the tranquil fields and the volcanic silhouette as your backdrop, is an absolutely breathtaking and unforgettable moment.
​Do keep in mind that the rooms themselves are on the simpler side. The facilities are basic and the furnishings are modest. However, if you are a traveler who values a phenomenal location and a genuinely stunning natural view over luxurious amenities, Gopalan Borobudur is an exceptional choice. The experience of the landscape alone makes a stay here worthwhile.

Peaceful place, lovely staff, good food. Stayed four nights to visit Borobudur temple which is 2km or so walking distance away. Basic and rustic, peaceful and quiet, good local food and lovely staff. Good view of Mount Merapi early morning.

There are good and bad things that come with a hotel being more rustic and located in the countryside on the edge of a rice field.
The good? Beautifully Instagram-able aesthetic, hearing the crickets/frogs at night and a true Javanese experience.
The bad? Yeah the Wi-Fi is pretty spotty at times and I saw a few bugs here and there — but if you wanted to stay in a sterilized room with fast internet you could just stay in the city or at home.
