This hotel is perfectly placed to explore all of Reykjavik and close to good restaurants and cafes! Over looking the stunning Hallgrimskirkja church! We probably had the biggest room in the hotel as up on the top floor with a shabby chic feel to it, which we liked! Would definitely stay here again!

I am sorry that I am only getting around to writing this now. I stayed in December for a work trip and this hotel was amazing and I will be returning very soon. All the staff were so helpful and my room was great, on the small side but exactly what I needed for my two night stay. The breakfast was brilliant and the cocktails were a bonus too. A great location too. I have stayed in the city many times and can't believe I have missed out on this hotel… until now!

I’ve stayed here twice now and highly recommend this family run Hotel. Staff are friendly and very helpful and of course knowledgeable about Reykjavík.
I’ll certainly be back as it’s my favourite hotel without any doubt.

Great location in the city center. But the room we got was terrible. It was so small you had to pick up your suitcase in the bed before you opened it. The room was very badly cleaned. You could see dust hanging on the walls. One of the sheets was noticeably dirty becuse it was brown. There were long threads hanging from the towels. We told the stuff but the only thing the fixed wad the sheets. Not what you expect when you paying 200 euro/night.

Great location. Short walk to shopping and dinner. Easy to find (right across from Hallgrims Church which you can see from anywhere! ) 5 star service. Very nice room. No elevator, but they carried our bags up.

Great location. Excellent staff. Rooms are what you would expect in Europe, tight. Our room was facing the church, great view. But with that comes the tourist noise. Hotel also has a very good breakfast variety. Enjoyed our stay there. Hotel is the white square building on the right. Cheers.

Stayed at the property for 2 nights in a single room, for a business trip to Reykjavik.
the location is central, a 3-minute walk from the main city street.
Room was not very large, but still acceptable and well cleaned. The sore spot is the bathroom really too small. There is no cabin, but not even a tent, so when you shower the water splashes everywhere. Direct consequence that the wooden door began to rot.
Breakfast is served from 7 o'clock onwards, but on request you can have it even before in reduced form, from 4 o'clock. 30.
Very friendly and friendly staff, really helpful at every request.
Free parking within walking distance of the hotel.

Loved the location. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had to leave very early in the morning and appreciated the coffee and hot chocolate that was available 24 hours and that the front desk was manned throughout the night. We found the bed to be very comfortable.

Very nice boutique hotel. Honestly you won't be disappointed. The staff were very friendly, rooms were spacious, clean and comfy beds. The breakfast included was actually decent, we enjoyed it! Plus an added bonus of unlimited hot drinks, Juices and Water — NEED this when in Iceland :) The main thing that attracted us to this place was location. They have plenty of free parking available outside. It is in the middle of everything in town! But away from the noise. Restaurants, town centre, ice cream parlours which you need to try, souvenir shops and most of the must see locations are walking distance from the hotel. Otherwise you hop in the car and drive to see the wonder of the world that Iceland is.

I was not very impressed with this hotel. I was given a room in the basement level that was on the corner between a construction site and the front of the hotel where people would stand outside smoking. It was also the same hallway where the housekeeping supplies were kept, and the banging inside the hall was almost as loud as the banging from the construction site. I could hear everything in great detail and the noise was present at all hours. There were clearly other rooms available because when another member of our party complained that he couldn't sleep because of the noise, he was given the key at to another room on a higher floor. The room was damp and didn't smell good. It was so small but there was no room for our suitcases. We had to keep one in a wardrobe and get it out as we needed things. The other one we had to put on a side table. We picked to this hotel based on location. Many of the hotels around the church or guest houses with shared bathrooms, but it would have been preferable to share a bathroom and have a nicer more spacious room. While we were eating breakfast, one of the hotel employees actually pulled a tray of food out from under my husband's hand as he was taking something. She then proceeded to noisily put all the empty chairs up on the tables and vacuum under all the tables while we were trying to have our breakfast and plan or day. I did not find this hotel particularly hospitable and would not recommend it.

Super location opposite Hallgrimmskirche. Rooms cozy and good, very nice staff, always helpful. Reception 24 hours.
Breakfast buffet very good including warm waffles, just right for a good start to the day. Opposite a supermarket, open 24 hours a day on 7 days. Bus stop number 8 at the Hallgrimirche church in two minutes.

Awesome hotel with the best view. It'd directly opposite to the church. The receptionist is really friendly and it's a good starting place for your trip of Iceland.

Twin bedroom a little on the small side. But room was clean and comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Seating/reception area was a relaxing place to sit n chill. Breakfast was great and a great selection of free hot and cold drinks. Great location. I would happily come back again.

Great hotel, very good location, very nice decoration and nice staff. Coffee, tea and water will be at any time of the day. The breakfast is nice but there is not a lot of choice. Wi-Fi is available in the room and in the common room. Only problem the size of the bed. Very small! And the shower is pretty special.

Been to better and cheaper hotels in Reykjavik. At Leifur you're essentially paying for the view on Halgrimskirkja church. The rooms are so tiny you cannot open the bathroom door because the bed is in the way. No things like small shampoo samples are provided, as they usually are, so bring your own. Free breakfast is nice but don't expect more than muesli, toast, some cold cuts and bread. Coffee and other hot drinks are free. Beds are queen size, bud you get two half size duvets.

Staff good overall, but Julian (overnight guy) was great! Very helpful and understanding. Great breakfast and coffee, and excellent location. We had a double room. It was clean, warm, with a comfortable bed. Room was a bit small, and lighting was terrible, but no big deal for one night.

Brilliant experience here during local stay. Ideal location, a bit more character than the harbour area. Room was quite small, but clean and functional. Good breakfast and coffee and water always available. Staff were helpful and polite. Would stay again without hesitation!

Staff were really helpful — the receptionist went out of her way to find us a kettle on our first night and found one for us. The breakfast is good and the bar/breakfast area lovely and cosy, warm and clean. The location couldn't be better BUT… the room was very poky and small. The pavement was right outside our window and as there was a loose pavement paving stone every time people walked past it was extremely noisy. We were on the other side of the road in a basement room and think that because we were on an Icelandair package deal we were not given the good rooms. The shower was broken but otherwise worked well. As there was a shower curtain only in the tiny bathroom, the floor in the bathroom was soaking wet after a shower. There was virtually no shelf space and no hooks anywhere to hang stuff. The bed was very comfortable. No remote control for the TV. No kettle or tea making facilities which really wasn't good. Luckily we brought our own tea bags but had to get hold of a kettle as stated at the start of this review. If we come back to Iceland we would stay here again but would be very specific about the type of room we want. And we would bring our own travel kettle!

Convenient to everything. The folks at the front desk were helpful and friendly and knew everything we needed. The bar is a cozy, welcoming place to sit in the evening. Can't beat the view of the church across the street. Wonderful place to stay.

Our room was small, but certainly had the very best view in the house on the top floor facing the cathedral across the street. Nice linens and a comfy bed — by my own mistake my traveling companion and I had to share a bed, but we each had our own duvet so not a big deal. Perfect location for shopping, walking, and sightseeing in the city center — many famous sights, restaurants and shops are within very easy walking distance. Fantastic staff and a wonderful breakfast — especially the tuna salad! Delicious! No kettle in the room but you can help yourself to drinks in the lounge 24/7, either to stay or to bring with you as you explore the city.

Small room, but good for the price Iceland. Great view, delicious breakfast and great customer service. If I can ever afford to go back to Iceland we will stay here again.

The hotel really is in a great location like others have mentioned with a very friendly hotel staff. Being so close to the church, the tallest building in the city, it's a great landmark to find your way back home. When you go up the church tower, it can be seen in one of my photos to the right (front white building). I booked so far in advanced and requested an upper room (4th floor) with a mountain view and that's what I got. I was very happy and so was my wife. Only rear rooms have a balcony and even then the lower floor have poor visibility and shared balconies with a partition. Ours was to ourselves, I recommend factoring that in when booking. The rooms are on the small side, but I didn't come to Iceland to stay in my room. It was large enough for the both of us and clean. Also breakfast was plenty and basic but delicious: Fresh waffles, cereal, cold cuts, breads, assortments of spreads, eggs, and fruit (may have missed a few minor things but that's the gist). The main two reasons I only gave a 4 was that the Wi-Fi was very inconsistent. I had a very hard connecting to it in our room. This bothered me the most only because I'm working on my masters and was doing studies at night while my wife was sleeping. Second, the TV didn't work the entire time (did address to the front desk but their fixes did nothing). Not a problem for most, but were the type that likes having something on as background noise/entertainment when just lounging at night or hanging out playing cards.

Staff were excellent, but not local at least not in the mornings. Location is fantastic, the street it is on is a good shopping destination. Rooms were small but cozy, washrooms were not well maintained. We had a shower head that would put as much water in the rest of the room as on my head. Would definitely recommend this hotel though.

Good location and nice room.

I booked a room at the Leifur Eiriksson but had to cancel due to a medical emergency. I just want to warn everyone, the hotel made it impossible to cancel even in a medical emergency.

The location was amazing right in the middle of everything and opposite the beautiful cathedral. The hop on hop off bus stop was right outside and there were shops and restaurants in walking distance. The rooms were smaller than most hotel rooms but were clean and warm. The staff were friendly and helpful especially one of the reception staff (the guy from Yorkshire) and nothing was too much trouble. One of the selling points was the fact that there was free tea and coffee 24/7 on hand so if you fancied a late night/early morning coffee you could fetch one and sit in the bar area. We would definitely go back.

I think the staff here is what makes this small family hotel stand out. On a recent visit they were outstanding. Thank you. Our room was basic but comfortable. Breakfast was enough and tasty. No complaints whatsoever.

Such a great location with a beautiful view of the cathedral but also ideal for restaurants and shopping. The staff were lovely and, in such an expensive city, having free hot drinks in the breakfast room was a real bonus — especially after fresh waffles for breakfast. Rooms are nice but dinky — don't attempt a single bed or a top floor room if you're tall…

Hotel Leifur Eiriksson is a basic, no-frills hotel that makes up for a lack of sophistication with charm, personality and above all, location. The staff are very helpful, and the hotel is well served by tours and shuttle buses. The general feeling is one of a backpacker's hostel than a city centre hotel — not necessarily a bad thing. Our room was on the fourth floor, in one of the corners and it wasn't massive. In fact, I initially had head-room issues in the sloping roof ceiling, but soon got used to it. It was generally clean and well stocked, albeit very basic. Breakfast was good enough, offering buffet-style continental and cereal options, as well as tea and coffee. In fact, tea, coffee and cold drinks were available all day round — just help yourself from the machine. Something we and other guests used a lot. As for location, the hotel is a stone's throw from Hallgrimskirkja, which means you'll never have trouble finding your way back (the church is visible from all over the city), and you'll see a constant stream of fellow travellers wandering up to take photos. One word of warning — if free Wi-Fi is important for you, then you may need to look elsewhere. Hotel Leifur Eiriksson does have Wi-Fi, available on all floors, but it seems to work intermittently.

Friendly family-run hotel, modern decor and friendly staff. Centrally located for the city centre and a great base for exploring.

Loved the statue — wasn't greatly impressed with the hotel. We had a small ground floor room with barely enough space to move around in, with a double bed no more than 110cm wide and totally inadequate for 2 people of even normal size. Breakfast was normal continental but I felt we could have been left a slice of bread or two when we had to leave early to catch a flight rather than have to miss out on something that we'd paid for.
