A historic place. Very impressive to look at. Trier rightly celebrates itself as Germany's oldest city.

Trier's most famous historical Monument! I Like to climb the Steps with Visitors and feel connected to history. This Gate is a Contemporary Witness To so many Eras and Events. I keep Getting Goosebumps. Of course, the View of the City centre, especially the Main Market, is of particular. It's worth climbing the Steps!

Trier is worth a Trip. Very beautiful City. With great old Houses. Very well maintained. Beautiful Pedestrian Zone. And, of course, the Porta Nigra. Very worth seeing. However, Could be put even better into Scene.

Ancient Imposing building. If you are in Trier, you should definitely come here. But you could stage the Building a little better. The Tour To The Porta Nigra is a must for me!

On a Visit to Trier, the Portal Nigra is a must. Very beautiful Old town that you can explore on Foot. The Gate is the City'S Audience Magnet. If you think about how old it is! Madness… The Name Nigra rightly bears you you can visit it for Admission. I thought it stands somewhere in a big Square and was amazed that it is at the Bus Station. Due To his Age of me 5 Stars.

This place has a lot of history it will take you back in time, good restaurants affordable prices, the service is not bad… don't expect nothing like the US, is there a European service they are pretty cold but if you want to learn about history, wow… get ready to blow your mind.

For second time being there… I really enjoy being in this ancient Roman city… The Porta itself is a must seen, if interested in history then have a look by getting a ticket and visiting the inside part.

If you like the old building, you can get rid of your money in Trier. Demolishing the thing and building flats on it would be smarter with the horrendous rents.

It’s good they kept a bit of history intact but really there is not that much to see. Stroll through the central gateway and snap a few pictures from both sides and you’ll be on your way pretty much. Still, if you’re in town and have the time, check it out anyway, even if only to show people love to keep history alive nowadays, right!

It's iconic in Trier, a symbol of the city. A sightseeing tour of Trier wouldn't be complete without a trip up the "Black Gate". The views of the city from the top are great and will give you insight into how impressive the Roman settlement must have been.

Trier is worth one or more trips. Visiting the Porta Nigra and the city together with the night watchman was a great experience. The information point next to the Porta Nigra is staffed by very friendly people who also give you great tips.

Magnificent testimony of the past, this imposing monument stands out for sure by day and night. Pedestrian area around… Many parking lots (paying) in the vicinity…

The Porta Nigra, also known as Porta Martis, is located in the city centre of Trier. Two high archways lead through the building, which looks amazingly large from the inside.
There is a bus service, but no parking nearby. Free Wi-Fi is available from the information. There are many tourists on the way and you should avoid getting into such a group.

One of the main historic points of interest to visit when in Trier, the Porta Nigra holds a lot of history. You can see the the entire town from the top of the building and that is worth doing to take in all of the beautiful views. You can see the cathedrals and palaces from up there too. Making your way up, you can find sections detailing the history of the monument and how it played an important part in the history of the town.

Very beautiful old city gate from the Roman occupier period. Landmark of Trier. Very centrally located. Very worth seeing especially in connection with other attractions such as imperial Baths, Barbara athatherms, Palace Garden, Basilica, Cathedral, Marian Column etc.

This was an amazing place to see. The museum is beautiful. I look forward to going again.

One of Trier's largest attractions and a great meeting point for a group if you are part of one. You can go up and get a nice view of the city too.

Friends, this is one of the most spectacular places of this beautiful city! Seen a presentation from the staff of the "port nigro" about a Roman soldier, well done guys! There was a group of children and we and they were delighted. Approved to visit!

Really impressive structure built by the Romans 2 century A. D. If I am not mistaken. What I did not expect from preciously researched pictures was how big the old city gate actually is. Definitely recommend visiting it.

The most impressive is the outside of this beautiful Roman gate. What a beautiful and impressive building to have still standing in all its glory. The exhibition inside is somewhat limited. We had a Roman pass for three sites and a museum, so it was just one site on the list.

An amazing historical site that should be visited by everyone who is passionate about discovering meaningful places. The entrance fee is 4 euro and you get to visit the whole ancient building which offers a great view over the city square. The Porta Nigra doesn't have a person as a guide but the first and second floors provided written and audio information about the history of the building in several languages, including German and English.

Obviously one cannot argue with the history that is there. However the fact that there are so many modern things thrust right in front of it (a rock concert stage) that take away from it is pretty bad when you've come all that way to see that history only. I know that there are gladiator tour guides that are available and we took a look at that but it didn't seem to be available for our schedule. I think that there should be some type of basic tour available with your admission for something so historic. It was nice to have the little fold-out pamphlet with history, however, and I do applaud them for that. A very amazing story there.

Coming out of the gate it was impossible to meet a single competent person in principle. Here ended writing, medicine, hygiene, mathematics, astronomy, high tech, fashion. The owner-run Hotel Porta Nigra is located in the immediate vicinity of the Porta and the subsequent pedestrian. But also the urban forest and the river Moselle are not far and within walking distance. The rooms are very clean, bright, well maintained and with attention to Detail. The Breakfast buffet is extensive and the fully automatic machine allows the preparation of different Kaffeearten. The Hotel is centrally located and nevertheless quiet location, with public transport as well as with the car super to reach. On-site private Parking are available! The staff is polite, reserved and was always immediately available.

Central location of the hotel is wonderful, however, the rooms are (as already bewchrieben) is very small. The Hotel does not use any Schutzauflagen for the mattresses! Under the fitted sheets was directly the bare, with patches covered mattress.

We were with a travel group. The Hotel is located directly at the Porta Nigra and so very Central to the historic old town. The rooms are quiet, the Buffet is the price performance ratio is appropriate. This Hotel is due to its Central location, highly Recommended.
