We had a group of five people (4 adults + 1 child), so we booked one of the larger rooms. The online service we used, which partnered with the hotel, allowed us to book a room for five people. However, a few days before our stay, we noticed that the hotel had given us a receipt for 3 people only. We figured this was a typo; however, when we arrived, the receptionist informed us that only 4 people could stay in that room, and that we would have to pay an extra 45 euro for a child to stay with us. This was unpleasant, but we agreed that maybe we should have taken a closer look at the receipt and agreed to pay. Keep in mind that, aside from two extra pillows and a spot for him at breakfast (where, being a child, he ate nothing), the 45 euro offered us nothing extra. However, what appalled me most was the service. The receptionist very rudely tried to convince us that the mistake was our fault. We tried to explain to him that we had three people searching independently for a 5-person room and that this one came up for all of us, meaning that there was either a mistake in their partner’s algorithm, or their limits. We also said that we were willing to take the charge and did not need to establish fault. However, the receptionist could not let it go and just HAD to prove to us how wrong we were. It felt like he was scolding us… the whole conversation was drawn out, uncomfortable, and unprofessional. For this reason alone, I would not stay here again – this hotel was VERY expensive and the hidden charges and poor customer service made the value of our stay not correspond to the price we paid. As for the facilities, my opinion is mixed. The hotel is in the perfect location – it would be hard to find something better. The room we stayed in was very nice, with a large bed that two adults and a child could easily fit in, an extra fold-out big enough for two people, a shower, and a deep soaking tub. They offer bathrobes and slippers, which is always a good touch. However, the fold-out was incredibly uncomfortable. The guests sleeping on it reported that they could barely get any rest. The breakfast was very good – lots of options, good tea and coffee, even some Cava wine – but at 14 euro a person, I could have passed and just had a coffee and pastry from one of the local bakeries. In short, this was a nice hotel but the service and the value for the price left much to be wanted. If you are travelling with just one other person, or if you want to spend more time resting and relaxing in your hotel room than exploring, this may be a decent choice for you. But you can’t just have a beautiful hotel without good service – I will take good service over a luxury room any day.
