No hot water. Over chemicals jacuzzi burnt us. Unfriendly front desk girl. Very limited food availability. It was nice being by the river but the lodge was lacking from a guest standpoint. The floor was very slippery in the room so was the tile outside.
Not recommended.
Mindo Garden is located at the end of a dead-end dirt road quite a ways out of Mindo. It takes 10 or 15 minutes to drive out.
Cabins are spaced apart along a meandering cement path that passes through dense vegetation.
The room I had was comfortable. The electricity and water supplies were reliable.
There were several drawbacks to staying at Mindo Garden. First, the hotel is expensive. For what you pay the room should be cleaned daily. It wasn’t. Second, for what you pay you ought to have hot water in the shower. I didn’t. I informed the establishment the next day (the desk is not staffed at night), and was later assured that the problem had been rectified. It wasn’t. Third, if you leave before breakfast is served the take-away breakfast is quite mediocre and disappointing. Fourth, despite there being multiple buildings and only three other guests at the hotel two of them were assigned the room directly above mine. The squeaking that ensued fortunately ended early.

Gaby and Freddy, and their team at the Mindo Garden Lodge took the best care of me during my stay! This team went out of their way to make sure I had a wonderful stay AND helped me access all my desired activities in town and in the area. They coordinated my reservations, and made it so easy for me to just show up! They made excellent recommendations for local guides — I had the best access to birdwatching and the caminata nocturna because of their connections in town.
The lodge itself is nestled into a beautiful small valley, with the river immediately adjacent. The sounds of the river and the birds accompany you everywhere on the property, encouraging you to feel comfortable disconnecting from your devices and really soaking in the natural beauty of this location. They offer well-maintained trails to several waterfalls and a laguna within the property, if you feel like exploring!
