The staff at Hotel Ansgar are described as exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and service-oriented. Guests praise the employees for their assistance even in situations where check-in occurs late and the reception is already closed. The staff resolve issues promptly, are always smiling, and create a warm atmosphere. Reviews specifically highlight the professionalism of a receptionist named Torbjørn.

The hotel offers a buffet breakfast with a good selection of dishes, including eggs, bacon, fresh juices (the rhubarb juice is especially praised), and homemade jam. The hotel lobby features an excellent concept with free coffee and tea available all day. Guests pay special attention to the "happy hour" from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, when guests are offered a complimentary glass of wine, nuts, fruit, and muffins. This service is considered one of the most pleasant features of the stay at the hotel.

The Wi-Fi at the hotel is stable and is described as strong and good. Some guests note that the connection information is provided on slips of paper, which they feel is not very modern, but technically the network functions properly.

The soundproofing at the hotel is viewed inconsistently and is often a subject of criticism. Many guests complain that the walls are very thin and that conversations from neighbors can be heard. Noise from wooden floors under the carpeting is also mentioned, making footsteps audible in the corridors or adjacent rooms.

The condition of the rooms varies significantly as the hotel is undergoing partial renovation. The new rooms are described as modern, bright, very clean, and comfortable with excellent beds. However, the old rooms are characterized as worn: guests have complained about a musty smell from the carpets, peeling paint, worn-out chairs, and old furniture. Some noted issues with door locks.

Modern and spacious bathrooms are installed in the new rooms. In the older rooms, guests encountered issues such as poor water pressure due to limescale in the shower, a lack of floor slope in the bathtub (causing water to pool), and leaking toilets. Regarding amenities, slippers and basic toiletries are provided in the rooms, although in some cases guests noted empty soap and shampoo dispensers.

The hotel has an elevator, but it is very old, small, and, according to some guests, looks unsafe. Due to its small size and unstable operation, many visitors prefer to use the stairs.

Opinions on cleanliness are divided. Many praise the hotel for overall cleanliness and the hard work of the staff, including management. At the same time, there are serious complaints about poor cleaning in the old rooms, including mentions of foreign hair in the tub, cobwebs in corners, dirty towels, and unpleasant odors. Additionally, one guest expressed concern over a low sanitary control rating in the hotel restaurant.
