Very clean. Comfortable and accommodating on every thing. Highly recommend. Only wish the restaurant stayed open a little later.

Its Restaurant, the rooms and the privacy has a staff of highly trained and bilingual! It is a Hotel that brings together everything one needs for relaxing or for a business meeting and in the pure center of San Jose, close to theatres and government offices, such as the Courts or the Attorney general of the country.

I recommend the hotel Colonial because it is a nice place, clean, and with breakfast. The receptionists and waiters were very kind and helped with all with a good attitude. The bed was very comfortable and the shower good! Although it is in the center of San José, we do not feel so much noise and we rested very well. We also liked the room service of the restaurant — the food was too good and the prices affordable! Left with a good impression of Costa Rica! Thanks for all and pura vida:)

This is a very clean, comfortable, and economic hotel in the heart of the city, comparable in price to others in less secure areas. It's within easy walking distance of restaurants, museums, and shopping. The building itself is a historical gem. The colonnade gives it the feeling of a colonial villa, and only the sound of the traffic (not nearly so bad as other reviewers indicate) reminds you that you're in the city. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, all opening to the courtyard, which has a small pool and plenty of places to sit and relax. The breakfast is the typical local gallo pinto. That served us perfectly, but if you are the type of traveler who wants to bring home with you, you'll want to go out for breakfast. I only wish that the coffee had more local flavor to it too. It was almost water. But what really shone for us was the attention to guests, particularly from Francisco Rojas, the night concierge. We had had a stressful night after encountering a problem with our reservations elsewhere and then searching for another place to spend our last two nights, and I remembered seeing this one on one of the hotel websites. Francisco was incredibly understanding of our situation and did everything possible to make our stay as welcoming as possible. For that service alone, what was a 4-star rating is bumped up to 5 stars, and has earned our future patronage whenever we need a hotel in San Jose. I hope he sees this and will accept (another) wholehearted "thank you.

We loved it. Economic, simple and most importantly "close to everything". I would not hesitate to recommend it and would use it again! Pleasant and family friendly.

Hotel Colonial is a great little hotel. It is near several restaurants as well as close to the shopping center in downtown San Jose. Rooms are very clean and tidy. They offer breakfast in the morning but we were up too early. They are currently doing some renovation in the lobby. It looks like quite the upgrade. My understanding is they are adding a cafe to the lobby.

Very nice clean historic hotel, offers a great view of the mountains in the distance. Breakfast is served from 7:00AM to 9:00AM. Coffee is brewed at 5:00AM if you are a super morning person. Hotel only has room for one vehicle in the garage. If you are last then must park in the street. Remove belongings from your vehicle if you have to park in the street. Free internet is offered. Rooms have TV and dish or cable. Centralized location in San Jose downtown, within walking distance from local vendor's shop and restaurants. Pool is offered downstairs in the courtyard.

The hotel was ant infested… The first room we had smelled like mold odor… After requesting a new room the bathroom had a thick layer of mold in the shower. Do not the the picture fool you, the cleanliness of the hotel get a ZERO rating. Housekeeping dry's the bed linen on a drying line at the side of the hotel. The pool was small and dirty, the pool chairs looks like they haven't been cleaned all summer. The complimentary had ants crawling around it. However the hotel staff was nice and accommodating. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

County fault the hotel in any way. Yes it's a bit noisy but you are in central San José.
Staff were amazing even gave us breakfast at 5 am on the day we left.

The rooms were nice bright clean, the train each hour on the other hand was very loud, as this hotel is central san jose… other than that I would go back.

A amazing wonderful place in the center of the city. In a safe place, close to amazing restaurants, museums and the centre of the capital. Is logical and intelligent for the traveller who wants a hotel of great comfort at a great price and that this strategically located.

The hotel is economy but clean and has nice service. Unfortunately, because there is no air conditioning you have to leave the windows open and listen to very noisy traffic. It is walking distance to the Plaza de Arte and a nice souvenir market.

It is a nice small hotel in the centre of downtown. Good service and moderate prices.
