Great location of you need to be downtown San Jose. Beautiful house, nice staff and amazing local food!

It's great EXCEPT when there is a very loud party in the bar until 1AM! It was hard to sleep! However, nice folks, free breakfasts, and and great casados for lunch!

Very cozy. Very nice rooms.

The hostel at Casa Colon is on the second floor of a beautiful historic building. Staff are friendly and fluent in English. A couple minor downsides, depending on how you like to travel: It's usually not too busy, so odds of making new backpacking friends are lower (but on the plus side I only had to share the six bed dorm with one other person). There also isn't a kitchen, but there are plenty of good, cheap restaurants within walking distance.

Currently staying at Casa Colon and would definitely stay again if I come back to Costa Rica. I've stayed in a private room both times and they have been so comfortable. Also very quite which is nice. They have everything you could need here, and the staff have been very helpful with anything I've needed. Would recommend to anyone who is thinking about coming to San Jose.

Ok place. Ok beds. Price little high 13$ for shared dorm. Bad Wi-Fi reception.

If you are un San jose, this place is recommended, good prices and cery clean, they have private rooms or dorms.

So clean, lovely common area and very nice restaurant connected to them.

Very bad service, I was at the bar and the waiter, I think his name is joshue, he told us it was already closed at 8:45 p. M. And he served us in a very rude way almost throwing us the bottle of beer on the table, as if he did not want to work. Very bad experience in this bar, it is a pity because the place is nice, but we will never go back to this place, it is very uncomfortable to be treated this way.

Boh. Very nice Building. There is No kitchen or space to communicate. I Wonder if it'S a hostel.

Had a single room with bathroom. It was rarely cleaned in the 4 days.
It's noisy, this is normal for the city, but not the Sunday will be laid from 8am to 10pm new laminate.
Breakfast is super bad.
The female staff at the check in at 13:45pm, refused to hand over the room. Although an early check-in was booked. Only the late shift at 2:05pm was able to hand us the key.

Very nice hotel More common areas are needed to encourage coexistence.

The cleaning staff stole some of my clothes and a $100 bill from my bag. In every other scenario I would assume a roommate took it, but it just isn’t possible for that to happen. Read below for the circumstances: **************************************** I was staying in a dorm room and in the morning all my roommates left. I was organising my stuff for the day so I know it was all there. I needed a shower and my room was empty so I put my wallet in my bag instead of the locker for 30mins. At the time I also noticed that a pair of headphones were left behind by one of the backpackers on top of the lockers. By night I double checked all my money and repacked my bag neatly and noticed my stuff was gone (as well as the other backpackers headphones). At this time I was still the only person in the room and the only guest who still had a key. I thought my stuff was collected with lost property somehow with the headphones. When I asked they said there was none and the cleaners were too “honest” to have done it. **************************************** P. S. I have left my email with the hostel, so if they recompensate me for what was stolen I will happily change my review.

This is one of the best hostels in San Jose downtown in this price range.
The food is outstanding, and the local casados with rice & beans are the best I've had during my 7 years living in Costa Rica :)

This is my second stay and I had a better experience the last time. I like it because it's good value for the money. I paid US30 for three nights. It's clean. This time the bathrooms upstairs (where my room was) weren't working which meant an inconvenient trek to the ones downstairs. They've since been repaired (third day of my stay). Water tends to settle in some of the showers. Take care to check your room key to see what bed you should be in. I returned from a tour and someone was lying comfortably in mine. I just took his because I'm all about peace and love (haha) but I think this is information the staff needs to give customers when they check in because it has happened on a number of occasions to other people sharing the room where people arriving either think they can take any free bed (the numbers aren't very obvious and a bed may have been made up and have an occupant who's not present) or they confuse the room number with the bed number because they're like 203, 204, 205 etc and the bed numbers are like 03, 04, 05. Also a housekeeper took my towel thinking Of checked out so I had to pay another US 5 dollar deposit for another towel until we found out it wasn't stolen. Food is a little more expensive than a local place I found… but maybe this is to be expected. These are all just things to consider. I really like the general feel of tge place… iys wooden flors… The staff is awesome. Extremely friendly and full of useful tips.

Good enough you can watch the football while you drink a cocktail and enjoy the food in a cozy atmosphere.

A great place to stay for a few days in San Jose. Always good attention, live events, excellent night atmosphere.

Not a hostel, but a hotel with 3 dorm rooms. One toilet for ALL the dorms. You're likely to only meet locals since it's a hotel. Public access so I even had a couple beggars come in and ask for money! There was a loco tico in my room who kept assaulting me and calling me a terrorist. The front desk gave me a new room (thank you! ), but they knew the guy was crazy and creating problems — so he should have been kicked out. Would never stay here again.

The hotel staff (cleaning ladies) stole my clothes when I was not there. I know 100% it was them because I had the stuff before I got to the hostel. There was also an awkward situation before I had realized my stuff was gone where I came back and everything was gone off my bed — travel pillow, pj's book a beer and earplugs (I never got the earplugs back). I was staying for 3 days so there was no reason for them to have taken my stuff but that was understandable. What was not understandable was the fact that they took all my stuff but left all the garbage… pizza and pizza box from other people who left! and other random garbage. And when I was dealing with this situation, the cleaning staff snarled at me for the rest my time there. There is one miserable kitchen lady as well. Overall nice place but am totally never going back because I am missing a dress, a bra, a shirt and socks! Oh there were only ever men staying with me… I don't think they would steal my stuff.

This was my first time staying at a hostel so my reviews may be a bit biased :). Price point for 3 was excellent. We got our own private room and breakfast for 3. Location was also the middle of town. We tried a Peruvian restaurant within walking distance as it seems like most of the other places around the hostel were fast food places. The room seemed nice at first yet as time went by we found out there was no internet access inside the room (we had to use the lobby to get the internet) and we found pieces of someone else's hair on the bed which leads us to believe the bed sheets were not switched out! This was gross and as it was late (around 10) the guy at the desk did not have the keys to the sheets or something like that and we had to sleep on those beds removing the hair we could… Also, the water in the shower is warm, but the sink faucets only come on if you press down on the button. Not bad for one night, but compared to my sister, who has been to many other hostels, this was not that great.

Close to central San Jose. Beautiful large Swiss style house. Good beds. Great quiet atmosphere near bus from/ to airport. Good restaurant & bars.

Super clean, friendly staff, and great rooms. I stayed in the dorm style rooms and it was exactly what I was looking for and for an unbeatable price. I would recommend to anyone!

This will now be the only hostel I stay in, while I'm visiting San Jose! All the staff made me feel at home! The chefs are wonderful cooks! They have a buffet every afternoon that is delicious! If you are a vegan or vegetarian no worries here! You can ask for things ala carte:) Luis the evening bartender is wonderful! If you ever need anything all you have to do is ask! Love this place!

We didn't even stay here, were just passing through San Jose and needed a place to chill for like 6 hours. First, the place looks swanky (compared to every other hostel in Costa Rica), super nice staff, super clean, let us chill in the lobby for the longest time, lock our luggage in the back room while we went to eat, let this random dude traveling with us make phone calls, and was cheap for booking (if we were to do so). Can recommend it enough if you stay in San Jose (I wouldn't), but if you do, stay at Casa Colon.

This hostel stands out amongst all others I've been to, especially in Costa Rica — it's gorgeous from the outside with it's cute and chic castle-like appearance, and is breathtaking on the inside with its elegant and inviting colonial-style decor. My first thought was that it gave off a really laid-back European feeling, and that's what the environment is like at this hostel, I met some really cool people during my stay there. Casa Colon is super clean, has spacious and comfortable rooms, wonderful staff, and offers amazing food. You have to try the pecan pie.
