Lemuria Hostel

I quite liked this hostel. The staff were great, and the location was good too. Very close to some nice restaurants and with easy access to great views across the bay of Valparaiso.
In addition the roof terrace is great and is a lovely spot to have a few beers on an evening.
What lets this place down is the cleanliness. I stay in a lot of hostels, and I don’t expect spotless rooms and bathrooms, but this was a bit much for me. Our rooms bedsheets smelled musty as if they hadn’t been dried properly, and there was no ventilation.
The kitchens too were pretty grimy, plates and pans had a good bit of grease on them.
The worst bit was the bathrooms though. Similar to the room we had, there’s just no ventilation and the ceilings of both bathrooms I used was just covered in black mould. The floors were wet and covered in hair, just not what you want.
It’s a real shame as otherwise this is a great place, and the problems arnt hard to fix!

Great staff, quiet and friendly hostel, great location. Kitchen well equipped with lots of oils, spices and free foods. Hostel is basic but comfortable with consistent hot water. Only 2 criticisms: 1. Laundry was mega expensive at 10, 000 for one small load; 2. We arrived into Valpo early after an overnight bus and couldn’t enter the hostel to leave our bags until 10.30am, so we had to wait in the bus station and then a coffee shop for 5 hours, which was *not* a travel highlight. Other hostels we’ve at least been able to drop our bags and use the bathroom. Otherwise, great place with fab Wi-Fi and plenty of chill out areas including a rooftop.

Booked a simple private room without toilet/shower via Booking. The bed literally had various levels and the wood underneath was partly broken. There was clearly mole everywhere in the room. When we complained, we got a better room, but how do you dare to accommodate people in a place like this? No towels available but nice outdoor facilities and a good view of the whole bay. During the day the staff often listed to loud music.
