Staff go above and beyond to make my stay terrific. Room was spotless, Covid bag breakfast was great, room service A 1 and the fact they helped this computer and phone whiz help getting me on internet was muchly appreciated. Staying there again For Sure. ///

My stay was good. Rooms clean. It was quiet with friendly staff. The only observation I noticed was that the door to our room was difficult to open as it was sticking.

Stayed for 2 nights and the rooms were very clean and also very friendly and helpful staff.

Convenience to Sydney (we walked to the “Big Fiddle” on the Boardwalk in less than a hour)
There is a pool and hot breakfast (in non-Covid times). The staff is helpful and friendly. Beds are comfy. Price is very reasonable.

This inn is an older but very well maintained inn. The rooms were quiet and very very clean.
The front desk staff were courteous and helpful. As their restaurant is closed due to covid they provide a brown bag breakfast which is great. Would not hesitate to stay again.

From the moment I made the reservation directly with the hotel until checking out, the staff were amazing. Always helpful. Very clean room, nice ammenities and the bag breakfast/coffee station were more than I expected. Would definitely stay there again on my next visit.

Would love to win your stayca my friend and I stay there often in the summer months. Staff is very accommodating and friendly. We stay at the one in Port Hawkesbury it is central for day trips. The food is great especially the fried chicken. Reasonable price clean and a pool plus A/C what more could you want.

Room was fantastic. Clean spacious. The continental breakfast consisted of toast and cold hard boiled eggs. The cereal was in an opened (air exposed) glass dish. Here we are in the middle of a COVID 19 outbreak and they are serving cereal that someone could have potentially coughed on. Two thumbs down. We ended up going to the Bonnie Prince.

Over all was a good experience… was quiet. Down stairs around room 121 smelled like weed.

On-site staff were very kind, very courteous and went out of their way to make our stay the most welcome aswell as comfortable as possible. The lady at the desk was very kind, and she even took the time to ask us how our stay was, as it was our wedding anniversary and, the sweet kind ladies the one at the front desk and the sweet lady from the restaurant also made me and my husband complimentary mamossas as a wedding anniversary gift with our complimentary breakfast Both ladies even brought up our breakfast to our room as my husband was still sleeping at the time so it was absolutely the nicest thing in the world for them both to bring everything up, the presentation of the food and drinks were absolutely exquisite/so beautiful! and they set everything up in the living room of our suite so my husband could wake up to a warm meal made with love from the heart stone Inn. We are very blessed and thankful to the staff also Theresa for setting us up in the King Executive suite for our anniversary and, will be staying again next year for our next wedding anniversary aswell as me and my husband absolutely adored the kindness and soul they put into everything they do at the Hearthstone Inn! The dedication, commitment, and Sheer hard work we have witnessed from everyone there is absolutely highly admirable!

EXCELLENT STAFF very friendly and accommodating, food was also great as was evident by the number of non guests that came there to eat. The only complaint I have is the floorboards in our room were loose gaps in a couple of places. We stayed at the Hearthstone because you are pet friendly but will definitely go back whether our dog is with us or not.

Clean and very friendly staff.
They have a great breakfast. You get to tell the server how you like your eggs and bacon, ham or sausage. There is a serving station so you can make your toast while your breakfast is cooking.
Very nice and clean bathroom and great shower. There were four of us and stayed two nights. The indoor pool was great. We will stay again.

Always accomodating. Always sleep well the beds and pillows are so comfortable and We always stay at the Hearthstone when in Sydney NS. Pleasant courteous staff and breakfast is real food.

This was my second time trying this hotel and again for the second time I did not have a good experience. I was on the bottom floor and my room was not very clean and was rundown. I found hair that did not belong to me in the tun and the TV as well as the hairdryer didn't work. I was looking forward to the complimentary breakfast however was disappointed by the lack of variety and that the food was not very hot. I was not impressed by the big bowl of yogurt you had to scope out of into your ow dish and share with everyone else. I ended up checking out early instead of staying an extra night and voiced my concerns to the front desk. All they did was apologize and provide me my bill. I will not be returning again.

Wonderful unique little hotel. Beds were so comfy, breakfast was delicious. If you need to go to Sydney I would highly recommend this gem.

Quick check In. The room was large and modern. Water pressure in the shower was good. Breakfast buffet was excellent. Full selection of fruit, breads, meat, eggs. Our server was very effecient and friendly. Amazing value. I would absolutely stay here again.

Rooms are very clean, beds comfortable. Continental breakfast was very good with a great selection of food. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The indoor pool clean, warm with change rooms and exercise room right outside the door.

Staff is friendly, rooms are nice. Beds comfortable. Only problem I have is that it’s advertised as air conditioned which is one of the reason I booked here, and it’s definitely not. Our room is boiling and we have a baby and an almost 2 year old who aren’t sleeping from it.

This place is Sydney's hidden gem. Clean friendly and very accommodating. Awesome court yard. Great wedding venue! Great bar and delicious menu.

Excellent place. Free big breakfast. Lovely sitting areas inside & outside. Newly renovated, modern rooms. Has coffee maker, microwave & fridge. Pizza & other food deliveries right to your horel room. Love it here. .

Very reasonable price for such an amazing hidden gem. The pool is a delightful surprise, doesn't have that "old, gross" feeling most hotel pools do. The restaurant is super convenient and the food is delicious.

The Hearthstone Inn is a very lovely place… I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay while in Sydney … The rooms are very cozy and comfortable and the staff are wonderful… I am looking forward our next trip to Sydney and another stay at the Hearthstone Inn… Thank you Lisa and all your wonderful staff.

Lovely rooms, great price. A bit of a walk from the town however. Had the pool to myself which was a pleasure. More attention should be made to replenish the food at the breakfast buffet.

I only went to the Commoner to eat supper. The food was good, and the wait for the food was reasonable, but there was an unexpected wait to order and to get our bills. I was with a large group that trickled in, so I can't fault them too much for the wait to order, but the wait for the bills was a bit unreasonable. The medium steak I ordered was more medium-well, but it was still very satisfactory.

We stayed in the hot and ate at the restautant called The Commoner. Food was great and the band was awesome. Typical amazing east coast music that gets you wanting to get up and dance. The restaurant where the band places is a little smaller. Its a shame they couldnt make the area larger to be able to get up and dance. Regardless it was a fun night!

Great atmosphere, nice renovation, quick friendly service, great affordable menu.

Bad customer service. The man at the front desk kept checking me in to rooms under renovation, and he got upset with me after I had to come back 3 times to get a room that wasnt in shambles. It took 45 minutes to get breakfast in the morning and it was cold. The waitress didnt even apologize. I've been to all the hearthstones and I stay at them a lot for business and this is by far the worst experience I have ever had at any hotel.

Very nice hotel — friendly staff, clean rooms, very comfortable beds and a free breakfast. I would definitely recommend this hotel if your travels bring you to Sydney Nova Scotia.

Ate lunch here. Veggie burger very good, would recommend. Tomato soup was more like a pasta sauce. Others purchased wraps which were tasty but coleslaw was not well balanced (too acidic). Overall the meal was fine and the interior decor was very warm and inviting.

When we first walked in at 2330hrs, we were greeted by two older gentlemen with the "this is not a party hotel". Once it was made clear that we were there indeed to sleep only, we got a room in the basement. In our room we found that the air conditioning unit had not been cleaned in a very long time. It looked like it started to grow mold. When we did the usual bed inspection for unwanted friends, we found mouse droppings between the mattresses. We left before breakfast was served so I cannot comment on that. The one gentleman from the night shift did help us find a better route to the Cabot Trails by taking the ferry which was fun. So thank you for that.

During my stay I met the hotel manager. I didn't realize her position because she was unassuming and caring that I was completely happy with my room offering to move me because there might be a better view. I declined this generous offer because I was close to the stairs and that convenience superseded all else for me. She was generous and cared about my stay. It was nice to see she took individual guests under her "wing". That's just the kind of place this is. Amazing! Staff at breakfast were quick and courteous feeding all who came for the included breakfast. It was a generous breakfast with lots to chose. It was very busy between 7-11 am. And the staff were handling no matter what tilt. Supper there was wonderful menu would appeal to most varied tastes.
Check out was seamless because we had nothing to dispute. Our stay was p e r f e c t!
Even though there were renovations going on, there was no associated noise and we felt everything was calm and quiet. Would love view things after the reno's. I loved the parlour on the main floor just off the lobby where one could sit and watch the flurry of activities depending on the time of day. Unlimited coffee and room with a view. Yes there was always coffee or tea near the front desk. Never empty! I hope to return and perhaps my favourite staff member, Lloyd will still be there to greet me with his welcoming persona. Lloyd, the night auditor, face of the front desk evenings was a delight.

The staff at my location were nice and friendly. Everything was clean and when I forget some person products at home they were to help me out.

Been staying here with my company for years. The hotel has recently undergone many renovations and has steadily improved. They offer themed suites, there is a bar/restaurant (though not operated by the hotel), and the other standards you expect from the hotel. Johnathan at front desk is exceptional and always makes us feel welcome when we arrive each day.

While they were undergoing renovations in the common spaces, the rooms were pretty outdated and basic. Fairly clean. Toilet ran & made a bit of noise the whole time. Buffet breakfast was very simple, staff were somewhat attentive and nice. Overall an average spot with a slightly above average price tag. Wouldn’t stay there again if I had the option.

Staff was friendly, building was undergoing renovations which was fine except the gym was closed down for that as well. You'd expect renovating to take place in the off season not the peak season. For the price I paid for two nights it really wasn't worth it at all. We had breakfast for two mornings which was included and was a buffet style. It was typical and ordinary. If it wasn't included in the room rate I would've ate somewhere else. The rooms were outdated, scuff marks on the bathroom door all over, moth holes in the curtains but the beds were super comfy.

We were a party of 8 and everyone was pleased with their meals. It was during Jazz Fest and busy but service was quite timely.

The hallway and room smells like the harbour. The stairwell carpet looks like they yoused a 1930 mini golf turf that someone took a bog on. The walls paint is peeling like my skin after a sunburn. I asked for a coffee at breakfast and they gave me a cup with my ants lipstick stain who was there 2 nights ago. The fridge in my room was used as a kitty litter and the hallways smells like it was hotboxed with shrude farts. Overall would make a better dump than hotel but staff were infact friendly.

The front desk staff is helpful and pleasant. Room was clean and bed was comfy, ours had a fridge and microwave. In house restaurant/pub has good food (wonton nachos), and some local beer.

Check list: negatives : Not sent friendly if you are sensitive to that. The cable TV is messed up and garbled every 5 min. Exercise room closed. Its an old building. Under heavy construction. The guy at the front desk complained about the computer being slow. Minimal amount of towels in bathroom. Parking area out back is insecure unlighted and has a thick tree line just be carefull at night. I never tested the Wi-Fi. The guy at the front desk was a little odd In the way he was asking questions. Pros: bed was ok and ac worked.

The room is very overpriced for the lack of cleanliness, comfort and customer service. I understand that you're under renovations, but that doesn't excuse the clumps of hair on the floor in the bathroom, hair in the bed sheets and the smell of a dirty, musty basement. It just wasn't cleaned properly. Period. Even the clothing I didn't wear I washed when I got home because they smelled like mould. The bathroom light only worked half of the time. Our friends' room was infested with ants, hair in the bed as well. When they asked for some sort of compensation the receptionist basically called them liars.
The hot breakfast was "ok". I would be reluctant to recommend this place or ever stay here again. I would be happier sleeping in my car.

My uncle and I ate at the commoner. The staff were please and our food was excellent. It shall be our place when we go to Sydney.

We arrived around midnight. First thing we noticed was pee on the toilet seat. They quickly changed the room. The supposedly newly renovated room looked like someone inexperienced did the work as if the finishing wasn't completed. Breakfast was good, buffet style.

Food was delicious. Atmosphere was great. Very impressed. Waitress is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. There were only three tables to be waited on all beside each other and she didn't stop to refill water at all during our entire meal. Was hard to get her attention.

The staff were very friendly! Our room was disgusting! Upon entering our room we noticed two very old rusty air purifiers in it and the furniture was very very outdated to say the least, as well as not clean! A/C was very loud and old, the rugs were just plain nasty and hadn't been vacuumed in a very long time, they had approximately 8-9 objects all plugged into one surge protector and the one wall plug which looked very dangerous to say the least, the fridge temperature could not be controlled, the bathroom floor had another persons body hair all over it (not just head hair) by the looks of it, the tub was so old that you didn't dare sit to bath and relax in it and worst of all our toilet still had fescues and there. Was a spot of mildew on the ceiling above the toilet! Management did upgrade us to one of their theme rooms called the Maritime Room and it was by far nicer looking but still wasn't clean in the bathroom area. This room did have a very strong odour as well. I would highly recommend to the management of the Hearthstone Inn to hire some new cleaners and to deal with the odour issue throughout the whole place and to clean their pool!

Bad waited at restraunt for breakfast for 30 mins, the lady didn't even ask what I wanted to drink and she served people that got there 15 mins after me first.

Hoping for a nice layover before catching the ferry. Unfortunately checked in late and the staff was friendly but after 7 hrs on the road wanted to sleep however they definitely interested in chatting about our trip. Once we reached our room it was immediately noticed the mildew / moldy smell. The large TV was great but sheets felt dirty and sticky. Finishes in the room especially the bathroom did not help. Poor quality and by far seen better. Would not recommend for couples more for single layovers if nothing near by.

Booked everything online, reservation worked out very well, no issues at all. Friendly front reception, helped us out with everything. Free parking right at the front of the hotel was very convenient. Rooms were renovated, clean, smelled fresh with the except of a bit of mold in the bathroom, but then again, this is Atlantic Canada. Breakfast was a lot better than I expected and was served during reasonable hours. Generally, the inn is very quiet at night and I was not bothered by any noise. On-site bar was very nice and had good music. Overall, had a very good stay.

Good location. Every one is friendly. Really good free breakfast. Bath tub is kinda moldy but overall the room was very clean. Definitely big improvement compared to previous years.

The Inn is okay for a budget hotel, they are trying to make upgrades I think, but some things still seem tired. It isn't anything fancy but it was clean and comfortable. Give the onsite restaurant a try, we were very happy with the food and the service.

Staff is friendly, about the only redeeming feature of this place. Rooms are old, outdated, and definitely have that old stale smell to them. The bathroom was actually pretty disgusting. Waaaay over priced for the room conditions. The pictures on the website are definitely misleading, we did not stay in a newly renovated room, that's for sure. Would've gone elsewhere if the reservation fee had been refundable. Not impressed.
