Friendly & helpful staff par non from Concierge, room staff, waitress assuring the menu was adapted for vegan requests; very pet friendly with many guests having small dogs. Loved our Queen suite facing English Bay, worth the upgrade from a queen room for sure, for three nights. Everyone abiding by Covid restrictions at this time with masks in common areas & checking passports.
Great view and lots of local diverse eateries a block or so away on Denman. Will come again, as just lovely to walk across to the pathways along the beach & connecting to Stanley Park Seawall.

Very nice patio, great views and it is fun to watch all the dogs on the patio. Service was very slow but it was quite busy.

We enjoyed our stay at the Sylvia. We liked that there were 3 beds available — that made it nice for 3 single ladies travelling together. The only surprise was that we had to pay for parking. I've never paid for parking anywhere before. It was not mentioned in any of our booking documents.

Your service was impressive, from front desk to food service right through to room service and bike storage. We really appreciated the no charge stay for our pup❤️. I had a fantastic COVID-19 experience at the hotel last week, I was in room and it was absolutely fabulous! I had to order Uber eats for dinner but that wasn’t too much of a challenge and the food was great! I assume that everything’s going back up & running into normal operations with social distancing in the lounge as of Tuesday, May 19 but you should check with the front desk before you make any plans, just to be sure.

Excellent location, excellent front desk staff — super helpful and friendly! Our room was recently renovated. Restaurant was still closed, unfortunately.

Great views of English bay. Coffee is really good and service 2nd to none. Come by for a drink and see.

I would recommend the Sylvia Hotel to anyone visiting Vancouver. It is the best hotel I have ever stayed at, the staff is so nice and the restaurant is the best and I would give this hotel a five stars rating if not more Love it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

GREAT HOTEL! Lots of history and fun. We left this place less than 48 hours ago and we already miss it greatly. The heartwarming story behind Mr. Got To Go is for sure to warm people's hearts and entertain for many generations come. Rooms are affordable and the service is beyond courteous. Aestheically beautiful and culturally pleasing, the hotel is an embodiment of a true work of art and outstanding legacy. Very friendly and helpful staff. And what a great location, English Bay next to Stanley Park. We arranged for a dinner for 10 of us, and without exception, all consider this to now be "the place". Some live in Vancouver. Others from other parts but all of them will visit this location again!

Lots of character and a great location. Room was comfortable albeit a little tiny. Some aspects dated but that's to be expected with the age of the building. Staff were very friendly. Ordered room service for breakfast — the French toast was outstanding. Cost of room was quite pricey for what it is but we were staying for a busy weekend.

The hotel bar was busy on the Thursday night we visited. The majority of the clientele were senior citizens, but there were a few tables with 30-somethings as well. The entertainment was a piano-playing and singing duo playing songs from the Sound of Music and others of the same genre. The drinks were reasonably priced and the service good. The atmosphere is pretty cool and the Sylvia has a lot of history.

Quaint* comfortable hotel full of character in a historic ivy-covered building conveniently located downtown. Walking distance to everything, good restaurants and shopping close by. Friendly, helpful staff. Pets allowed. Reasonable Wi-Fi. Kitchenette rooms have stove, oven, full fridge, cutlery, pots and pans, and you can wash and dry dishes. *We've been coming here every year for decades. This hotel isn't for everyone. If you need fast Wi-Fi, modern heating and plumbing, fast spacious elevators, this won't be for you. Part of it's charm is it's old and quirky with tiny elevators that only hold 3 people, and tiny bathrooms that wouldn't meet current building codes, and so on.

The Sylvia is a 100 year hotel that is beautiful, graceful, and kept up. I spent four nights there and attended a conference. The staff are generally kind and helpful, especially in the restaurant. The food was excellent at all times, and on more than one occasion the staff went out of there way to help me identify gluten free options. Drawbacks include small rooms, small elevators that don't always work, no air conditioning, weak Wi-Fi overall, and other tech limitations for an old structure. The location however compensates grandly. The hotel optimizes views of English Bay, immediately across the street. The open windows fill the hotel with sounds from the beach. It was Beautiful!

Rich with history, the Sylvia hotel is unique, walk through its life by reading all the pictures on the main floor. The staff was very pleasant and helpful at every turn as well. Right next to Stanley Park was very convenient for us, lots of eateries within walking but no grocery stores as a heads up. 4 stars because, well it is dated a tad in the rooms, no AC, bathroom mirror lights you had to be tall to reach, actual keys for the room are a tad bulky but you could leave them at the front desk too, we had beds for five people, were actually 4 but only received 3 towels every day, no safes but we put our passports at the front desk in an Individual safebox, and last the parking garage entrance is only one car wide so don't be in a rush to go somewhere.

This placeis one of my favorites. It has been here as long as I can remember. I have had dear friends who have stayed while visiting Vancouver and I love the ombiance, food and live music. Thanks to all for the Sylvia hotel and may it be there as long as I live and longer.

Very nice historical hotel. My only complaint stems from having a few drinks in the lounge. In my opinion mixed drinks need to meet a minimum standard. Not a difficult fix though.

Lovely hotel to stay at. Staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and the beds are comfy. Great atmosphere enhanced by the subtle jazz music meeting you as you come down the stairs. One star deduction for the restaurant. I have dined here on several occasions and was disappointed every time. Unless it’s snowing a blizzard, I’d suggest walking up to Denman and finding food at one of the many eateries in the area.

A lovely place for Sunday Brunch especially on a sunny day overlooking English Bay. Our server Rey was excellent and brought a smile to everyone's face with his sunny disposition. The food was good and service was prompt! A good time was had by all.

Beautiful historic property with a million dollar view. Very convenient location to English Bay and within walking distance of many sites to visit. Made a reservation in hotel dining room for 8 PM, requested table to see the sunset, and had mentioned it was for an anniversary. However, when we arrived, all the tables by the front window were occupied, so we were put wherever. A little disappointing. Customer service was so so.

Great staff! My daughter wanted to see Mr Got to Go. Staff gently explained where he was and then told us about the other two books (which we didnt know about). Great food and beautiful dining area with a breathtaking view to enjoy through huge picture window. A lovely step back in time!

A lovely old hotel, steeped in history. Very well located near Stanley Park. Nice, walkable neighborhood. I'm glad I chose it for our first night in Vancouver; we later stayed at the Marriott Parq, the complete opposite of the Sylvia. I'll take the cozy and friendly Sylvia over a glass/steel modern hotel any day.

I have been staying at the Sylvia for close to 35 years, but may not return. My room was nice, but unheated, with the exception of a small space heater, I found hidden in my walk in size closet, however the closet had no light, so it was fumbling with light from the hall. However, the biggest problem, which to me is a big problem, was the bed, which definitely had seen better days, it offered no back support, and was most uncomfortable. I was there three nights, and wrote the information about the bed down, along with my name and room number after the first night. I gave it to the desk person the second morning, who showed absolutely no concern, told me she “would let housekeeping know. ” Nothing was done for the other two nights I was there. Parking is now also 18 dollars Canadian a night.

A real Vancouver landmark on English Bay, old but stylishly refurbished hotel. Best location in city for walking and enjoying the sea. Restaurant is accessible separately to public, great place for a scenic breakfast or lunch, haven't tried the dinner.

Saw some jazz, drank some cocktails and had a blast. Friendly staff and the drinks were amazing. Definitely coming back. A little local gem for sure. Catch some live music if you can also!

Popped in for brunch. Historic building with rich history and lots of archival shots of Vancouver. On site parking that is handy as street parking hard to find. Food a bit disappointing but service attentive and friendly. Great views. Overall a nice experience.

Love the Sylvia! Renovated about a year or so ago. Very posh and swishy. Fantastic entertainment the night we went by Bobby Bacchus, Vancouver's Crooning Sensation. We're down there once a month for cocktails and entertainment. Love the food and service, as well.

Location was nice. I was visiting guests for the first time there. Decor was amazing. Rooms were nice. Restaurant seemed spacious even though we didn't utilize it. I would recommend both hotel and restaurant to friends and family.

Went for Christmas dinner. The food eas delicious but very small portions for 48$. The tables were quite small as well. Still an enjoyable time.

THE hidden Gem of Vancouver. This Pet and people friendly boutique hotel has long been the visual landmark of English Bay. The waterfront multi story brick facade is covered in vines that cool in the summer and explode with colour in the fall. The dining and lounge area has two distinct vibes that come alive at special times the locals understand and keep secret. The food is not my primary reason for being a regular. In short I encourage you to take a moment to sit and look around. I suspect you might see something special.

This is the absolute BEST place I have ever stayed, the room was great, ocean view too! The restaurant is SO nice, our server Shayne was just fabulous, taking pics for us, even took a selfie with us, he was so patient with all of us crazy ol ladies and such fun. I took a microwave popcorn down to the desk to use the microwave and the nice guy there said they would make it and deliver it… but… it never got delivered,, our guess is someone smelled it popping and stole it and ate it LOL,,,, Thanks for a really nice stay, ps, the menu and the food was just amazing as well.

No better location for a relaxed visit to Vancouver. It is across the street from the ocean and the walkway. It is a 5 minute walk to Stanley Park. There are LOTS of great food options also within walking distance. My wife and I decided to use trolley bus to get to downtown and back and it was easy cheap fast and frequent. We also took the train from the airport and connected using the — again easy. But best of all the pub and restaurant look into the shore. one drawback — the rooms. Kinda old and tacky.

Simply the best reasonably priced hotel in Vancouver and it has great views of English Bay. Staying with kids? You need a family room, only a few dollars extra per day gets you much more space and one of the beds is in separate bedroom. Dogs ok. Parking garage on site (extra cost). Good food at the restaurant and a nice bar. Old building with lots of vintage style, but the beds are modern and super cozy.

One of the my haunts in Vancouver. Great views and service. I enjoy the live music although not always to my taste in music. Food is good. Had the hamburger on my last visit which was awesome. Other meals in the past haven't been so memorable.

Excellent salmon burger with fresh cut fries & salad. Good selection of craft beer on tap. Great spot to grab a bite & a drink after watching a beautiful sunset.

Beautiful building, but super generic interior. Bar feels more like a chain hotel, with weird 90s best western upholstery. Staff are a little too friendly and easy going, ours dumped out his purse about going to another neighborhood bar for nightcaps… but the cocktails are made well if basic and expensive.

Brought my mother there for lunch after a stroll around the seawall, by the time we arrived (I had never been) I asked the front desk if they had wheelchair access so my mother did not have to walk the stairs. The front desk attendant Mickle came and wheel her around the building to the restaurant for me while I managed a table with a spectacular view. Such a lovely young man, great staff, good service and excellent food.
I plan to go there for a weekend, I absolutely loved the atmosphere and ambiance of the entire facility.
I understand they have live music swing, blues or jazz that will make for an excellent stay.

Beautiful building, I absolutely love this heritage filled place. Fun and old fashioned. Though that being the case there's no air conditioning, but I don't know if you there's a more lovely place to stay in English Bay.

We have only been to the restaurant. But, several times. Great location. Great view from the dining room. Love the restaurant. Good menu for food and drinks. Friendly staff. A good place to enjoy drinks, chat and linger.

This is a lovely old school hotel, loads of character. I only stayed one night I wish it could've been longer. Brilliant location, close to some pretty good food and drink spots but the Sylvia's own offerings compare favourably so you might want to stay in, chill and just soak up the atmosphere. The staff were very courteous and professional, I used to work in the hotel industry and these guys know what they're doing. I'll definitely be coming back as soon as I can.

Great piece of Vancouver History, and still a great hotel today. Reasonably cheap for the city and a steal for the area & view. The Bar is great, but the restaurant is only okay, except for their excellent breakfast, which is excellent. Everything has a fun, vintage touch including elevators with actual dials and physical keys on a tag for the rooms. A true (not so) hidden gem!

The inside is actually really beautiful and spacious. It's seat yourself. They were understaffed but the drinks and food still came out quickly. All the drinks are singles unless you ask for a double. Sangria was lovely — not too much fruit. We had the calamari and it was insanely good. Other food was a bit expensive but the server was honest in telling us what was best (don't get the chicken and waffles it's an embarrassingly small dish for a 15$ entree). Ask for water as it's not a mandatory action at the start of the meal. Server was really sweet and overall experience was nice. Would definitely go back.

I called before booking to make sure I got a high level water view, person who took my call flat out said no to the view because of the plants being in blossom. I thought that was great advice until I arrived. Total loss on my end because any room would have still had a great view. Same guy was there when I checked in, total weirdo. Hotel needs a major remodeling and the front desk can ditch the 1920's information book. Get a computer for gosh sake. I am all for old businesses and buildings staying afloat but this place missed the mark about 20-30 years ago.

Such a beautiful hotel with a great location in the WestEnd right overlooking English Bay. Great place to go for brunch. PS: Yukon the Bartender makes great a Caesar.

I love this hotel, so much history. Love going for brunch on the weekend's and appetizers in the lounge. The views of English Bay are incredible. Great spot for special occasions such as Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner or any other occasion for that matter.

The hotel was clean and comfortable. Check-in staff were friendly and efficient. The staff serving breakfast were friendly, but disorganised and took a long time to do anything. The hotel is an old building that is showing some signs of age: loose floor tiles, poor lighting in bathrooms, however, the location is excellent.

Location was nice as it is near the ocean and the bus line. Rooms were kept well. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook with. The staff were nice and the price of the room was average. Our cats enjoyed the space during the stay.

Hotel is old and charming. The location was very central. The staff was very friendly and helpful. My only complaint was that the room was not as warm as I would have liked, and I couldn't quickly figure out how to work the controls. Once it was pointed out to me that there was a space heater in the closet, it was smooth sailing from there.

Love this place for food! Often have breakfast. Was a little disappointed that my breakfast came with French fries… that was weird?

I chose this hotel because of the location (the proximity to Stanley Park and the trail). It's dog-friendly, which is awesome, and they don't charge an extra fee for having your dog stay with you. The room I had was big and spacious, which was nice. The bathroom was small, but that doesn't matter as much. The bed was comfortable. Only one of the elevators was working, and it was tiny — 2 people fit in it comfortably, but a 3rd would make it cramped. The staff was polite and helpful. My biggest complaint is about the Wi-Fi. It was frustratingly slow 95% of the time, and then other times would not work at all. I wasn't doing anything intensive, just searching the web for directions, or Yelp for recommendations on restaurants, etc. I was on the 3rd floor, and going to the lobby helped a little, the Wi-Fi was a bit stronger in the lobby, but that's pretty inconvenient. When we notified the front desk about the Wi-Fi, they restarted the router, hoping that would fix it, but to no avail. It was so frustrating that I would probably not stay at this hotel again, even though I was happy with every other aspect of my stay.
