Review of Econo Lodge Golden 2*

… DO NOT stay here. Dingy room, visibly mouldy bathroom, spiderwebs, filthy baseboards heaters, no fridge or microwave, and OVERPRICED. As well, the receptionist was sullen indifferent and seemed to be on some sort of drugs. Definitely the most disappointing motel we have encountered on our cross-Canada trip, and that is quite a distinction. We will never ever stay at an econolodge again anywhere. Do not be fooled by the name — this is neither economical nor decent lodging. Shame on you. … And that was only what we noticed at check-in! … The second floor exterior walkway (the only access to the rooms) was rendered unsafe and insecure because a fifty-foot section of it HAD NO LIGHTING WHATSOEVER. WTF! WTF! Next we discovered that the building had zero soundproofing: it was easy to hear normal conversation clearly from the adjoining room… So then at 9:00 we go to the front desk and ask Sam if there could be some light on the walkway as my partner is a female senior… she said it would be taken care of… but wasnt, not at 12:00 or by morning… also asked about fridge and microwave and were told, too bad the several rooms that had them had been rented … and then at bedtime tried to shut the security deadlock on the door… which didnt mate with. The its hole in the doorjamb, so was entirely ineffective and useless… JUST LIKE THIS FRIGGIN PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A MOTEL AND ITS APATHETIC USELESS STAFF. We took pictures of all the complaints and will definitely be contacting the local Health Unit and Chamber of Commerce, as well as EconoLodges head office…
