Extremely convenient location with a friendly service and generous rooms.

The Sandman hotel is beautiful. It’s in a perfect location. Walking distance to Stephen Ave and the Bow river walk. The service at this hotel is awesome. I stay here every 2nd week for work and I can’t say enough good things about it. The corporate floor is amazing for corporate visits. Since the renovations this is the best hotel to stay at downtown. Has a Moxies restaurant in it. Lots of close by bars and restaurants. Great gym. Swimming pool and hot tub. 100% recommend it here. The staff here are awesome. The rooms are gorgeous and the beds are soooo comfortable. No complaints at all.

This place needs a desperate upgrade…
from small rooms to small bathrooms… n in fact I didn't understand why parking charges in the hotel… the lift is not working properly… especially from the parking lot… we had to carry our bags upstairs… also no travel desk or any information regarding nearby places where one can visit… a total disaster.

We have been here for 3 nights (going on 4 tonight) and we have yet to wait less than 5 minutes for an elevator. Yes I understand one is under renovation but there are 3 others and they don’t seem to move ever. The icing on the cake tonight is this place is packed full with Fire fighters for the stair climbing challenge and the elevators seem to have slowed down even more, so much so that they have now propped open the stairwell doors so people can freely get to their floors.
Ridiculous is an understatement. Sure hope they are working better in the morning when I have to check out with 5 days worth of luggage and dance bags. The Wi-Fi here is spotty and super slow as well.

We were not told the hotel was under renovations. There was garbage left in the bin, mold in the bathroom grouting, dusty ledges, and super slow intermittent Wi-Fi. Had to step over laundry on the floor in the hallway in the morning. Not worth the money.

Was a nice stay. The only reason for 1 less star was the construction, and loss of facilities (pool, hot tub) were not shown online. The staff was very nice and helpful, and the room was excellent. Will continue to go to Sandman Hotels if available.

The one good aspect of this hotel is its downtown location. The hotel is old and definitely shows its age. The walls are banged up, wall paper is peeling and rooms are small. I stayed on the 5th floor. The room had a comfortable bed, furnished with a chair and ottoman. I gave a bad rating for the old decor but mostly because there was a pungent odor in the hallway, which was less noticeable in the room. As well the time to wait for an elevator is excessively long. Thought they do post signs warning of such delays for the elevators. I do have to say that the staff is friendly and helped me out with parking. The Express checkout was great. Hopefully once the renovations are complete the hotel is better shape.

Great stay, got upgraded and had an amazing room with a good view. Elevators can be a bit tricky to navigate but can't complain as it looks older. Were very welcoming to us and our dogs (:

The hotel is not what you would expect pictures lie. I was told I was given one of the best room but the bathroom is still small It was hard for me to give my daughter a shower. Then I dress up to go swimming come to find the pool is empty this wasn't mentioned. I book two days very disappointing. They said they gave me king bed but have me queen. The lights in my room didn't have bulb and in the kitchenette there is no light. This was bad experience. I met several people complaining in elevator not working unable to open rooms. Parking so small hard to park or even find one. Kids were bored.

I'm pretty sure I ended up with a cheaper room because I was far from satisfied with my experience. I understand that it's going under construction but I can't help but complain about the elevator that came every two years and the staircase that lead to nowhere. The washroom was able to roughly fit only one person under the conditions that one should be comfortable with a) their legs touching the toilet while standing infront of the sink and b) potentially locking themselves in because the washroom door in my room took the life out of me to close and then that times two to open. Also don't be fooled by the luxurious decor of the lobby because the room I was in at least, did not live up to even half that standard. It's a sufficient price for the area, but if you plan on staying for more than 1 night I suggest you keep browsing through more options for hotels.

The pool and leisure facilities were closed for renovation which was a bit disappointing. The on-site restaurant had a great breakfast and dinner time menu and service was excellent. It's only a short walk to the centre of town and there's a tram stop right outside which made it easy to get around. Easily accessible for disabled persons. Only downside was the cleanliness — not bad but could've been improved.

Very good hotel but the pool was not functional. Shame.

Came here specifically for the pool and hot tub. Just to find out it was closed. Front desk did not make us aware of this, so we looked like idiots walking down in our swimsuits. Also the room is outdated. Has a large ripple in the carpet. And the bathroom smells awful. Also be prepared to pay 25 a day for parking. Which was not stated. Very disappointed. I will never stay here again.

The bad organization… Devastated bathroom… The door with light drafty in the corridor… Wait hours for the elevators… To go to the parking lot with baggage a tragedy… Really bad…

Very misleading hotel. Great looking public areas. Very dated and uncomfortable rooms. Air conditioner didn't work properly in our room which made for a sweaty and warm sleep. Plumbing was also dated with loud rattling when the shower was turned on. Paper thin walls allowed us to hear conversations in neighbouring rooms. Hotel is in need of renos to all areas including the utilities.

The location, room, and parking were excellent. The Moxies they have in the hotel was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time. Food was bad, service was terrible, and we almost walked out more than once.

What a unpleasant stay. The hotel is under renovation, I didn't know that neither was I informed of that when I booked my 3 nights there. Carpets in the room smells. The lobby is dirty, dusty as well as the elevators. I understand that's is normal on a place under renovation but why not inform that to your guests when we are booking. I would have chosen somewhere else, I wouldn't have chosen to wake up in the morning with workers drilling and hammering walls above my head. The water was shut off for 2 hours, couldn't have a shower. The Wi-Fi doesn't work in the room, you have to stay in the lobby to have connection or you can contact the network service, on your own. The bathroom was dirty when I entered, that was urine around the toilet. It really doesn't worth it staying here to be downtown, save yourself some headache and stay somewhere else. There are better places out there for the same price I just found out.

Clean and nice rooms. Everything you need is within walking distance of the supermarket, bars and restaurants. Unfortunately, no breakfast is included therefore not the full rating.

Felt compelled to leave a review because I almost didn’t stay here because of the other reviews. Location not the greatest, but very close to the train. A little bit loud, but to be expected considered you are downtown. Renovations going on during my stay, and disruption was minimal. Stayed in a renovated room, which was very nice. Staff were great, Courtney at the front desk specifically was fantastic during check in.

Everything was great and staff was very friendly. Room was newly renovated. Only complaint would be the pool was closed for renovations but there was no notification of that prior to our arrival.

The people at the front desk are not attentive, in general the hotel is comfortable.

Nice place, staff was friendly and helpful. The moxie's attached was not too busy so service was excellent. Clean room, although the building was being renovated and the pool etc was closed. I couldn't hear any construction noise and the building was located within an easy walk of anything I wanted.

Great location down town, right next to the light so getting around is a breeze. Friendly staff and gave us a free upgrade because we are staying for 2 weeks. The staff is helpful in giving us directions or advice on where to explore. The rooms are clean. And the restraunt down stairs is great.

Stayed in the new renovated rooms and they were great. Just stayed again in the old rooms… had to change rooms because of the bed and then the heater quit in the middle of the night. Staff was amazing a month ago… this time very sub par. Dont recommend staying in the old rooms.

I stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms on the top floor and it was very nice. It had a great view. The only complaint is that the TV was fuzzy on every channel and the room was a little smaller than expected. I also got room service which is provided by Moxies. The food was delicious and the service was very quick. Only a 20 minute wait. I would definitely stay here again.

Hotel is under serious renos, at night it's dodgy town… drug and thugs. I honestly didn't feel safe out side. Positive note it's right on the C Train and is free down town. Got the room for 85 a night after mentioning the renos, no poo, or hot tub. Elevators didn't work half the time. They have a Moxie in the main floor but you get a lot of homeless drifting through using the washrooms while you a eating.

The pro for this place is definitely location. 10 minute train ride to the saddle dome for concerts and right down town so close to Steven Ave. Staff were also good. Cons, it's undergoing a major reno. Very messy, remote in room didn't work, elevator takes you on wild rides to the wrong floors and construction workers up and working early are noisy. My permanent pet peeve of this place is if you own a truck you can't park in their underground parking lot and have to pay extra to park by the alley. Overall more positives than negatives.

When I booked the room they didn’t mention they were in midst of huge renovation. No pool, no hot tub, lobby is chaos and elevators were terribly slow because half were out of use or being used by contractors. I won’t stay here again.

Would give it 0 stars if I could. I stayed here months ago and have not received my deposit back. The managers kept making up pathetic excuses making me call my bank and them back and fourth, refusing to listen to me that they charged me as a SALE for $200 on top of the price to stay there. I spoke with the manager probably 10 times who was nice and apologized and said she was trying to sort it out just to be completely ignored and have to continue calling several times. If I wanted to spend $350 on a room I wouldn’t have stayed in a Grungy hotel downtown Calgary. I have sent them photos of the transaction, offered to come in to receive my money back if they have troubles doing it digitally, and they continue to just leave the issue alone. Extremely unimpressed and would not recommend staying there because they will not make it a priority to sort out an issue. The restaurant also served us wilted lettuce, left us sitting around for water/to take our order, and it was absolutely freezing in the entire restaurant for some reason when it was — 30 outside. Room was fine but nothing great. A bit dirty but beds were clean. Pool was also a bit dirty and elevators didn’t work.

Under construction to the point where it’s almost not working. Elevator dropped us 5 floors while we tried to go up which was the most alarming thing that happened, but many people said they passed their room multiple times or just couldn’t reach it and the stairs are not allowed to be used. Pool is closed, none of the construction is disclosed on their website, and the rooms look nothing like the pictures on the site. Very outdated, lights in bathroom flicker for up to 3 minutes before they turn on. Service is not much better, both times we got food they wouldn’t tell us how much it cost nor ever came back so we could pay, so we just left money on the counter after waiting 20 minutes. Parking garage is dangerous and expensive. Dated rooms and service would be ok if it was guaranteed your rooms were clean and you could always reach them.

The hotel is beautifully situated in downtown Calgary. However, there was so much renovation going on that this day was a bit difficult. The lobby, pool Atrium, and all the rooms were being renovated at the same time. There was problems with the elevators. I think it will be very lovely when it is all done, but I would certainly check to see if Renovations were occurring before I stay there again.

Renovated, seemingly used-to-be smoking rooms. I got a slight hint of it in certain areas, and oddly the towels, but I am a bit sensitive to it. Overall, well updated, except for the old heater/ac and lack of TP holder. Bed and pillows comfortable. This time they were also renovating the lobby, and would dock another star because of the poor filtration of dust when they were leveling the floor before the new tile work.

Great hotel with chic restaurant and well stocked bar. The hotel was centrally located and right in front of the entrance was a train station (the use of the train was free). — The musical accompaniment during our visit was super and very special to mention. Also the breakfast was great and sufficient, including plenty of drinks.

Service was great and attentive to the guest's needs. The hotel is near the train station and shopping areas and restaurants too. The only problem that we had is that the some of the pillow cases and pillows are stained and the room is cold no matter how much we adjust the thermostat.

The room is like an apartment. It was so comfortable and welcoming. The workers were great. There us a lot to do in the general vicinity. An amazing place all in all.

Very Clean, very organized have their own taxi spots for people PLUS they call you a taxi which they are awesome for. Their food taste amazing. And you can really see that some of the employees LOVE their job. 5/5

Normally underwhelmed by the booking for business. Staff are always great, but generally a poor room with poor amenities. In November, I got a room on the 18th floor which was recently renovated, it was beautiful. Looking forward to my next stay.

Updated: Significant signs of improvement in restaurant and elsewhere, elevators quirky but much better, even fast. Room improvements in evidence. Previous: The rooms vary widely in quality; some are brand new, others well used. Climate control varies as well, from good to poor. Elevators often take 3-4 minutes to arrive. Pool's nice. Rooms next to elevator are noisy, and if you're on the 7th Ave side, higher floors are better, it's really noisy.

Stayed here during Stampede weekend. The rooms are a bit dated, but our room was very clean and our experience with the staff was very pleasant. The bar next to the lobby was a nice place to meet up and have drinks.

Where American Horror Story — Hotel found its inspiration. Very run down. Dirty. With the door closed there's a gap to the hallway. Can hear neighbor rooms use bathroom. Something in the walls (hot water pipes? ) screams at 5am. Turned the shower on and handel falls apart into the tub pieces everywhere and scalding hot water gushing from the shower. No service man available. Facial hair shavings in sink. Cracked sink and damaged (smashed) tub. Shockingly aweful.

Met a friend for drinks at the moxies attached was a nice location. Staff was attentive. Drinks were a little over priced but overall a good experience.

Rooms are ok and clean, very centrally located at the train station where you can drive within a zone for free.

The door of hotel rooms closes so hard. It was 2 am that someone from the front desk knocked the door of my room so hard and loud that I jumped out of my bed. He just wanted to inform me that my door is not closed completely. I never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Toilet clogged super easily. Maintenance overflowed the toilet trying to unclog it because they didn't know how to fix it. Water. Everywhere.

Stayed here with our soccer team. Location is the only good thing about this place. The bathroom fans did't work in any of the three rooms that we had. We would put the AC on at night and when we woke up, it would be blowing warm air. When we want to the pool, the jets for the hot tub didn't work as well. Also don't get me started on the Moxie's in the hotel.

Stay there often. Always a great place to stay. Nice rooms, downtown location and decent price. Moxies currently undergoing renovations so all they offered was a buffet.

Got three stars because of the staff. They were nothing but helpful in less than ideal circumstances. The hotel is run down to say the least. There are holes in the bathroom, cracks in the walls, you have to wait an unbelievable amount of time for one of the four elevators to decide to show up (if it ever does). Location seems ideal from first sight being right next to the light rail but the overwhelming homeless population tends to detract from that. As it turns out, short of the hotel bar, the area itself leaves much to be desired.

Room was pretty decent. Fantastic front desk staff was able to help us out when we had issues. Location is a bit on the rough side of downtown but it isn't too bad for the affordable rate we had for the weekend.

The hotel itself is ok. I didn't really find anything wrong with it. The rooms are decent. The location is the only reason I like staying there. My company pays for my stay there so I don't really have a choice lol. Right next to the light rail so it's easy to get around and the mall is only a 10 min walk.

A comfortable hotel in the city centre. We only stayed one night after a long day of travelling from Montreal before heading off to Banff. We were made to feel very welcome when we checked in and everything was as it should have been. Some of the rooms and parts of the hotel looked quite tired but, to be fair, there is quite a refurbishment programme going on at the moment. … We chose to eat in the restaurant connected to the hotel and the food and drinks were pretty good. Our room was clean and comfortable but we did seem to get a lot of noise from the streets below us and at one point we could hear everything that was going on in the room next door when the occupiers got home from their "party or celebrations" at 3:30 in the morning.

Checked in with very friendly staff and was very happy with the room and the cleanliness. Had a great sleep in a comfy bed and dark, quiet room. Hotel is in a great location to explore and we walked to 17 ave for supper and stopped in at a gourmet donut shop for dessert! There was lots of room for my car in the underground parkade and elevators are easily accessible. The pool and fitness centre were nice and quiet when we visited. Would definitely recommend and stay again. Thanks, Sandman!

I dont usually do bad ratings but this hotel is disappointment! we arrived at afternoon. To my surprise we have to pay the parking lot for $24! Ok, then thats fine. What happend next? The elavator is not working! So we used the stairs going up to the lobby! Our room is gross! Hairs on the bed and looks like the dube doest change. Hairs on the bathtub and on floor even at ceiling! Furnitures and carpet are not really impressive as you can see its very old. I cant believe I pay that much for that hotel. At that night my husband wants to go and refund our money back but I asked him to stay as me and my kids are very tired for driving 8 hours going to calgary! The pool is dirty as well. False advertisement. I dont wanna go back there anymore!

Overnight for work. Great location in downtown, right next to the train station. Service is fine. Rooms are perfect, fully functional.

Stayed at a bunch of hotels in this price range, this has to be the most unpleasant one thus far. Beds are extremely small, traveling with my husband and 13 year old daughter. You can not fit 2 people in a bed comfortably had to sleep at the opposite end to fit two people. Asked for a cot they do not have them for safety reasons instead I was given a extra blanket and a pillow for my daughter to sleep on the floor. Do not know if they have rooms with 2 bigger beds was not offerd so I assume no. Have slept in doubles before with no issues, do not think these are doubles. I think they are extra small because the rooms are so small bathroom even smaller. Beds have nice linens and comfortable pillows. Beds are pretty firm. Bathroom was not very clean looking, it has wallpaper on the walls that have stains of I don't know what? Shower head is low not good if you or your husband are over 5'6. Had good pressure and hot water. There was a hole where the faucet is, water leaks in it.  Lots of water and steam damage. For some reason there is no ventilation fan so the room steams up. May be because it is a old Hotel. You are supplied your standard hotel soap shampoo and lotion nice lemon scent. The light in the bathroom flickered like a horror film. Has a small pot coffee maker in room. Ate at the restaurant twice first had room service to the room food was good but very cold and soggy, I suggest eating in the restaurant. The second night food and service was great.

Rooms were clean, staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. My parents have physical impairments, and the staff did everything to help with their mobility. I was really grateful!

In comparison to other Sandman locations I have stayed at the rooms in this location were small and felt dated. Staff was extremely friendly however and location to downtown Calgary is exceptional with access to C-train (transit)

Budget hotel, don't expect anything fancy, but it's clean and the staff are pleasant. Reasonable food and drinks on-site with Moxie's. Conveniently right next to C-Train, and connected to Plus 15 indoor walkway network.

Only went for dinner and drinks, the atmosphere was nice, the Staff were acting very stuck up though, and should not be judgemental towards anyone, I did not appreciate looking down just because I wasn't wearing designer clothing or had a designer bag. That would be my only complaint, otherwise the rest of the experience was alright.

We have travelled here a number of times for business and the staff were friendly and welcoming. If you plan on having a meeting in Calgary, the banquets staff are amazing and attentive as well as quick and resourceful. Having the Moxie's located inside the hotel is also a big plus with their gracious and lively wait staff. We always look forward to coming back!

Room was chilly even after turning up heat. Could hear other tenants all morning and night. Did not realize it was right on a main lrt line as well. Very noisy.

Very clean and convenient, the hotel is huge and there's lots to do, the c train is right outside which makes it convenient to travel.

I don't know what we paid for this as it was part of a package, but probably too much. We booked this months ago and specified that we have a twin room, so they gave us a room with one bed. When I queried it they said it was first come first served and they had nothing else. They then gave us a king and a pull out sofa. The sofa bed is like sleeping on a bag of shrapnel from World War I. Also, they have a pool, although it's more like a paddling pool and pretty useless. There's no hot water in the sink, just luke warm. The Wi-Fi is super slow and just painful at times. The only reason it got 1 star is because it was actually clean.

Central location. Room was fine, bed firm. Bathroom OK, shower loose in the wall. Decent mid priced option.

Everything is worn, old and not inviting. For a night ok.

We hear a little tram from the room but is especially the elevator that made a lot of noise, the rooms are correct, the hotel is well located with accessible tram directly more tram is the last stop of the free zone so we can take it for free to the Center, is a (not very large) pool that is appreciated to freshen up a little.

For an inexpensive stay. You might want to tell people about this hotel. Rooms are clean, a bit dated but good nonetheless. A value for what you are getting.

Requested food to my room, has to carry it myself. A day later decided to order-in instead. They were unable to provide utensils. You will not receive a downtown experience.

Room was nearly $300 dollars for a night, lobby was fancy, room was a dump. Frayed carpet / blinds, stain on bedsheets, poor sound insulation, dated TV, Dated furnishings, simply not worth the money. My room condition could have been an anomaly but I haven't returned since. I was taken back when I actually entered the room, it almost didn't fit the quality theme I experienced in the lobby. After staying at the Delta for the same price previously, I had a very hard time finding the value. If the room was $80 dollars I could have overlooked the issues, but at this price-point the competition destroys them.

I was out with friends, celebrating a birthday at the moxies restaurant. I was being the responsible adult as I live in Cranston, so, I was not drinking, but, all my friends wanted to me join in the festivities. I went to front desk and we promptly greeted by a friendly face. Her name was Sara. Once she heard my situation, she was able to find me a room at a moments notice. The icing on the cake was when she lowered the price, because I was choosing to stay in the hotel versus drinking and having to get back to Cranston. The room was clean, the check in and check out process went smooth and it was an awesome night. Thanks so much, Sara.

Worst ever hotel and corrupt management. GM, susan, is the worst ever top management ever interacted with. Filthy bedsheets, stinky rooms, elevators, old and stinky swimming. Ordered once from Moxy, delivered in 45 minutes, a cold meal with human hair in it. Staff has habits of stealing the goods so never left your belongings in the room.

Perfectly nice hotel. Great location, clean, comfortable and the Wi-Fi works perfectly fine so they must have fixed it. Nice bar and grill as well. Will stay again.
