Fabulous! A perfect location just opposite the Menin Gate. Benoit's knowledge as Chair of the Last Post Association and his passion to share its history made our visit so moving. Menin Gate House is spotlessly clean and comfortable.

Attended The Last Post ceremony here which is performed every evening. You need to arrive early if you want to get to the front and be able to see what is happening. It can get very busy during main tourist season. We had four buglers who were note perfect and it was quite an emotional ceremony. Its a must do if you are in the area.

Its an iconic memorial and somewhere anyone visiting the Western Front should visit. Getting many more visitors over the years and your unlikely to see much in the evening when they sound the last post. But that may change after this year with interest in the Great War waining.

An amazing tribute to the fallen of WW1. Every night the 'last post is played, inside the giant archway displaying thousands of names of men who fell, but we're never found. It starts at 8pm. Every evening. GREAT TIP: There are plenty if school trips and keen tourists. Arrive there by about 7.30pm. It is a small wait, but it guarantee you a good front row place for this spectacular memorial.

Beautiful place to visit and the start of a lovely walk along the town wall. We returned a few days later to see the last post at 8pm. This was a really special thing to be part of. Happens everyday and is a little longer on the weekends. A must do experience and a lovely opportunity to reflect.

A stunning memorial to the fallen who have no known grave on the battlefield. Just shy of 55, 000 names from those who fell in the Ypres Salient alone. Alongside the many other memorials in the area, this is truly stunning. Every evening since 1927 a remembrance service has been held at 8pm, started by local fire service buglers who sound the call to attention followed by the Last Post. A stirring and moving tribute. On my visit I was humbled and privileged to be asked to read the Exhortation before the minute's silence. After the silence those visitors who have requested to lay a wreath are invited to do so and, by 8:15 it's all over. If you're visiting to view the ceremony, get there early, at least 45 minutes before to get a front row place. It's gets busy each evening. Once you're done, head into the town and enjoy the excellent hospitality of the Ypres locals. I will be going again, of that I have no doubt. We will remember them.

Beautiful gate to commemorate the fallen Commonwealth soldiers from WW1 (who's remains couldn't be found). Very quite though the day — (good to get photos). At 8:00 every night 3 bugle players are joined by various bands/soldiers etc. To play the last post — best to get there an hour before to get a "front-row" spot. Very good — would recommend.

Very moving, well worth a visit if you are in the vicinity. I've always wanted to hear the Last Post here and it didn't disappoint when we finally made it. All done with a lot of dignity. Incredible to think they do this every single day at 8pm. Ceremony lasts for about 15-25 minutes, depending on who is participating (anything from 2 to 5 groups presenting wreaths, playing instruments etc).

An iconic reference for anyone with the faintest interest in the past. It still shuts down every evening and Last Post is played by current or past servicemen. The town give total respect and are instrumental in keeping the tradition alive. Visit and see the salient your country and perhaps family held.

Amazing evening ceremony. Well organized. Book your wreath well in advance if you wish to lay it. Arrive early for a view of the ceremony.

The Menin Gate is astounding and moving in and of its right, but even more so when you attend the Menin Gate ceremony at 8:00 PM. Go early, in order to get a good spot to view the ceremony. Also be respectful. Don't stand there on your phone or with your barking dog or smoking mid ceremony (sad how many tourists I have seen do this). Go and pay respect. It's worth it. And you should.

It is a war memorial. It is a historical tourist attraction. This place exist to commemorate fallen and lost soldiers during the first world war. It is an incredible idea, to remember 1 person at a time, every day. People get here at 20 every night and watch guards change post and read the name. It is a place to go in a beautiful Ypres.

Since 1928, a coup d 'etat has been commemorated here every day at 8 p. M. In memory of the soldiers of the Commonwelth who fell in the First World War!

A very moving experience indeed. The gate is floodlit in the evening and the atmosphere was a mixture of sombre and of pride. The names of literally thousands of soldiers are etched into almost every stone block used to build the gate. They are from multiple regiments of many many countries. Most, if not all have no graves, because they were never found, such was the ferocity of the war. I will return.

I have been before to this magnificent monument, and been moved to tears by the ceremony performed by dedicated folk at 8pm every night. But more and more coach parties of children who are too young to understand, and having coughing competitions are detracting from the meaning of this place. It was far too crowded, with disinterested people. I don't blame the children, but if group organisers could think about the interests of their charges, rather than their own, it would make for a better evening for all.

We attended the ceremony "the last post", too many people to see something even when arriving 30 mn before. Notice enough reserved.

A lot of history in a place … a regarding memorable…

To experience the memorial service here is a moving event. Please remember that it is a memorial service for those who gave their lives for their country. It is not meant to entertain you. DO NOT APPLAUD even if there is a choir. The local fire brigade have provided the Buglers since 2004. (I spoke to a brigade member on the 11th March 2018. )

An incredible memorial and I was lucky to see it in the centenary year of the end of the war. Very moving last post ceremony too. Recommended.

A fantastic experience to be there for the ceremony at the end of the day. The last post call is extremely moving and a must do. If you want a good view it's advisable to arrive up to an hour early. Show respect by not applauding and removing your head wear (and of course respecting the silence)

Pure goose bumps as soon as the last post begins… absolute silence reigns… always worth seeing.

Fortress town which is visited by a nature woodland path surrounded by water and very pleasant at the panoramic level. Access to the city centre of Ieper with its charming city centre, shops, bars where prices are attractive!

A must-have on Menin. Go for a walk on the sunny days. This city is beautiful and the door is a place of recollection we can read the names of the soldiers who gave their lives for freedom. Never forget. Going there is something very important to do with your children. Let them read a few names, and especially let them realize the number of almost infinite lines of names below each other…

Monument that reminds us of what should never happen in the universe. The war.

A beautiful testament to an ugly piece of history. Try to hang around until 20:00 (exact, they are punctual) to catch the "Last Post". You will not regret it. (And if you wish to show proper respect, removing your hat will always be appreciated by military personnel. )

Meenenport is a memorial in the Belgian city of Ypres for the fallen British soldiers during the Flanders battles of World War I. The names of the missing soldiers are carved in. If a fallen man was later found and identified, his name was removed. The memorial stands on the site of an old city gate.

A fantastic spiritual experience to be there for the ceremony at the end of the day. The choir sang beautifully and the sermon was moving. If you want a good view it's advisable to arrive up to an hour early. The local square offers some delicious food.

If you are nearby please visit. It is very moving especially when they shut the road and play the last post every evening. It is nice to see that there is still so much respect for the fallen here. It is hard to contemplate the sacrifice and that everyone one of the names has no known grave.

Very pleasant place along the ramparts for the contemplation as for the promenade, very rich in history and close to the city center make a place to visit.

Beautiful door in the heart of the city! It is also the ideal starting point for walking around the ramparts on foot via the park that overlooks the city.

Humbling and impressive. The Belgian people have a last post ceremony here every night at 20.00, this is a great commitment to remembrance. It's well done and worth attending.

Very beautiful monument of recollection with the name of the dead of the war 14-18, in particular a part of the 13000 Australians who came to defend Belgium. The two lions at the entrance of the door spend part of the year in Belgium and a part in Australia as part of this souvenir.

It is a site which I really like to visit every time I went through Ieper. Is dedicated to the fallen by allied in The World War. I like to visit when I need a place of peace and quiet to think.

Attended the daily ceremony twice. It starts to get busy from about 7.40 pm, so it's worth getting there early to find the place that you want to stand if you want to see anything in particular. The ceremony is not always the same; people can participate by arrangement with the ceremony marshal, and this can involve people playing a lament, a choir, the laying of a wreath etc. I would just highlight that sometimes people are moved to applaud at the end; please don't do this. It is not an entertainment, it's an act of memorial, and a sombre occasion. Applause is disrespectful (although I understand why some people might think otherwise. )

A monument that is equally majestic in its appearance and painfully sober by its presence. Make it at 8pm any day and you can witness the Last Post. A moving experience — don't miss it! In memory our great great uncle George Herbert Mitchell MM, who offered the ultimate sacrifice 100yrs ago today. Rip.

Deeply moving. Aussies and Canadians, South Africans and Indians. It was an empire that went to war alongside the Scots, English, Welsh and Irish. A secular pilgrimage.

Excellent historical memorial for the battle of the Somme. Lots of services honouring the many events taken place in this region.

An astonishing experience. To be there for such a moving ceremony was very humbling. The respect shown to those that gave their lives for us so long ago was very moving. I feel very privileged to have experienced this occasion.

Very touching place. We stayed for the last post ceremony which was moving. I wish people would be a little more respectful and not use flash photography and have film everything, it spoilt the atmosphere.

The town of Ypres is worth a visit, and not only by its history, but also because the town is very beautiful and the shops of antiques hide a lot of surprises. The Menin gate is impressive and all afternoon to. 20 blow trumpets in remembrance of the fallen.

Imposing silence on the touch of trumpets on the part of three components of the fire department. The truth is that the act is interesting taking into account that what they do every day, was all full of tourists and people who are going to make offerings to the fallen.

This was our second visit and the experience was fabulous on both occasions. We have now stayed in both houses and recommend each highly. Isabel and Benoit are wonderful hosts, who made us feel so welcome. Their local knowledge is invaluable and nothing is too much trouble. We look forward to our next stay here.

Extremely moving monument. I was escorting 52 students from secondary school and every one of them thought it was a very fitting way to remember all the men who fell. I would defentity recommend everyone go to pay their respects at the Menin Gate.

The very best place to stay with a great host Benoit whose knowledge was fantastic. The apartment was lovely, comfortable with great history and the location was so special. We will definitely return.

This was our first visit and was a year late due to my partner being ill. Benoit was an excellent host and helped arrange a rather emotive wreath laying during the last post as it was the 101st anniversary of the death of her Great Grandfather. Accommodation was excellent, perfect location and more than we could have wanted.

Menin Gate House apartments are spacious and comfortable, as well as the perfect location for anyone wishing to explore the beautiful town of Ypres and the surrounding area. A huge thank you to our host Benoit, for making our wreath laying at the incredibly moving Last Post ceremony so special. We were made to feel like VIPs and it's something that my Mother and I will never forget.

My stay at the menin gate house was just top class. Loved it from start to finish. Benoit is an excellent host and was very helpful. I will definitely be back! Thank you for having us!
