If they cant charge your card they cancel your booking often without telling you. You find out when its too late. Its fully booked you have to check out and go somewhere else like I had to
No lift. You better be fit if you want to stay on the top floor especially carrying heavy suitcases I didnt have the best experience at Melbourne city backpackers but I did my best to have a good time. My 25 night holiday was cut into 7 nights. Im keen to go back to Melbourne in the winter months and stay at Melbourne City backpackers. I will learn from my mistakes but would be nice to be contacted to fix up payment issues rather than being cancelled and not notified and finding out at the last minute when its fully booked and going through the stress of checking out at the last minute

Frequent backpacker.

It’s really noisy at night. I waked up numerous times because of some noisy things like glass operation outside. And the sheet has some yellow stain on it. When I check out the receptionist told me I need to pick the pillow case and sheet up from my bed and take downstairs. Even though I know this is the rule in this hotel, it’s hard to accept anyway. To be honestly, comparing with the backpacker hotel I choose before, I think this is the first and last time I choose this one.

Looked up Melbourne City Backpackers online. Reasonable rates and vacancy showing. Friend offered to pay via credit card while visiting as we did not have one. Payment did not work from their site. Decided to trek all the way there and pay cash over counter only to be told unless we have a credit card we wont allow you to stay in a $20 per night shared dorm. No alternative for cash deposit, rude service. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Now a 12 hour wait at the airport for our early am flight. What a load of bulls*@t.

I messaged the owner about rates and via PM the service sounded reasonable and welcoming. But I ring and it's a different story, The person I spoke to was rude and arrogent and wasn't interested in asking what I needed to know. So No I don;t reccomend it. Dissipointed and take my custom elsewhere,

I loved to stay this in hostel. It was one week. The people are amazing so the staff. Finding friends is very easy. Many things to do. Bathroom and kitchen are clean, even though some people seem to be not able to clean their own dishes but this is the same in other hostels as well.
My bed was very comfortable :)

The whole experience was great, close to southern cross station, friendly helpful service and great six room dorm with a comfy bed. 10 out of 10 experience. Can't wait to stay there again. Cheers Rodney.

Great place to stay while visiting Melbourne. Highly recommend.

I had been staying to this backpacker, quite a year before, is really terrible especially cleanliness for every corner of the hotel, including all the place… but very suprising is that, now everything looks a new fresh for my checked-in on last few day-23/3… room is very very clean like hotel corridors, staircase, bathroom/restroom… New painting look freshly.
The most important is convenient, just 5/7 minutes to southern cross station. It provides Breakfast in morning, the counter staff is friendly, I will recommend it to my Friend. Cheer.!

Its a very clean and affordable hostel. Everyone that's travel to Melbourne or doing a backpacking this place is the one that's you want to stay friendly staff and will help you everything to know about Melbourne city. Look for the reception name dennis he is the man in the house. Cheers dennis for all the help while I was staying in the Melbourne conection AKA King st backpacker. Booiyyyeahhhh…

Stayed here awhile ago, great place! Everyone was friendly, the other backpackers were so much fun! It's close to town and even if you didn't want to go far you can find someone playing guitar and singing in the stairwell or down in the common room! Haha was such a great and friendly atmosphere! Would definitely go back.
