Glad I made the last minute choice to stay at Hides again and very impressed with their upgraded rooms and impressed with the cleanliness.

Absolutely disgusting the way we have been treated. Booked a room for 3 people constantly every day only being given 2 towls. Then being abused by a staff member becuase apparently there is pool towls which we were never told about he treated us like Absolute scum.
Room service is poor.
The pool area is so dangerous cracked tiles everywhere I ened up with cuts from them not safe for the children at all.
Smoking area smells absolutely putrid.
cant smoke out the front of the hotel as we get abused everytime by the locals wanting cigarettes. Don't appreciate the abuse from your staff
I have not been treated the way I have been here at any of the hotels I've stayed at prior.

I just love this place, in the middle of cairns city, close to nice bars and restaurants, great prices to stay, always lovely people behind the counter.

Great location-rooms are newly renovated, clean & comfortable.

New counter staff and manager was booked into hotel today after staying there 4 times previous paid for the room and presented photo I'd and debit card then they asked for another $100 deposit told them there was not that much on the card they wouldn't accept my booking l was so upset l am a disabled pensioner and had to get to Melbourne as my 90 year old mother is ill l then rang my husband in tears because l had no where to stay overnight before l fly to Melbourne next day l went back in while he was on the phone still and asked them would they accept his credit card the answer was no l am disgusted with this and would never recommend this hotel again Lillian.

Wi-Fi worked! Great location and helpful staff. For the price that we paid it was fantastic! 5/5 because of the crazy value.

It offers everything an average hotel offers but nothing more. Got very little information from staff regarding facilities and what is available from the hotel. Wifi is fast enough and included but disconnects every now and then. Overall I would recommended for a short stay since its close to everything in the City but I believe there are more satisfactory and comfortable options.

Nothing 'heritage' about this place, it is a cpl of doors up from the original and it's only association is the name. Rooms at the rear which face Grafton st are noisy at night till 3 with drunks, followed by a petrol blower for an hour then another hour of a street sweeper. Advertised price is deceptive too. Avoid it like the plague.

Bit of a weird place but cheap and better than the mad money hostel which we left to come here.

Convient if you would like to be located in the city, however this comes at a price. There are no facilities in the room, no bath, fridge, no kettle etc. Being located where it is my room was opposite a laneway near a restaurant. Could not leave a window open due to the high noise levels of nearby commercial refrigerant plants and people emptying out rubbish. While the room was clean and tidy, it could have done with a make over. Chipped floor tiles, old bathroom that needed renovation etc. Also the room's airconditioner had not been cleaned in a while was in need of a good clean.

Good basically for the location and the prices. Rooms and service is enough for short periods.

This is certainly not the most beautiful hotel in the world. However, if you are coming to town to enjoy the city or go out diving this is a low-cost place to do it. Staff were very friendly, breakfast was included and Wi-Fi was free. Most importantly, the location is ideal for anything in the area. You are a couple minute walk to the ocean and there are stores and restaurants in every direction.

Perfect location, basic room but clean. Air conditioner was not great but otherwise good value.

The location is very convenient, but the room is more humble, the suggestion is to own the toiletries. The service staff are very friendly. Breakfast is also recommended the day before, the hotel offers a very simple breakfast ⋯

Great location, near everything. The room was clean, comfortable and roomy. Staff were friendly and had a good sense of knowledge on the area. Breakfast met and exceeded expectations. The hotel is situated just up from a night club, so it did get a bit noisy while we were trying to sleep, that been said if I didn't have children with me I would have gone out, sounded fun.

Staff always go over & beyond to help make your stay in Cairns memorable, Has been a icon of Cairns and recommend that try HYDES at least once. You won't be disappointed. T. Carter.

Three days only one cleaned the room and because we claim it.

The hotel location was great and the staff were generally quite nice. However the place could do with a makeover or at least a better clean. Our bathroom had no ventilation and always turned into a sweaty sauna after a shower. It had been clear that this was an ongoing thing, as the bath roof was beginning to rot and crack in multiple areas. As I went to use the towels, the were complimented with ants. And upon going to bed, I encountered roaches on the floor. The staff were notified and did what they could to get rid of the bugs (a clean and some bug spray), but the critters ultimately came back the next day. If (and only if) the bathroom and bug issues were fixed, I'd consider going back due to the great location in the heart of Cairns city.

Old hotel, beautiful interior architecture but without comfort. No air conditioning in common areas, small rooms, and bathroom shared toilets. His only asset? Its downtown location close to everything. Despite that, friendly staff.

I went to Hides hotel for drinks on the verandah with some friends. It is a lovely hotel situated right in the heart of the city centre at 84 Lake St. The little I saw of inside was lovely and had a great 1900 'so feel. Would like to stay there one night just for the hell it.

I love staying at Hides. It is central to everything, 2 blocks to cairns central and 2 blocks to the esplande. Desk ppl are very helpful and friendly. Room is very clean and huge. Breaky is so lovely having it on the balcony. I stayed 2 nights this time and everything was perfect. Definately recommend this place. Treat staff kindly and you will get treated well. Thank you Hides. 5☆☆☆☆☆.

Very nice inner city hotel. The breakfast on the balcony was great and evening time is time to see cairns for what it is. A magic place with atmosphere of culture rebuilt and shown graphically by night at sheild street verandah.

Good hotel, with breakfast part of the deal. Small rooms, but Centrale location to Cairns City, Security parking of street, walking distance from restaurants, shop's & swimming pool's. The Hotel is very Old, with history, meany room, with a lot of old world charm, very friendly staff.

Excellent, comfortable accommodation. Absolutely central in Cairns. I have stayed here many times and am sure to return again.

Building is huge, rooms are a bit dated but overall clean and tidy. Staff are nice and the location is perfect to walk to shops and restaurants as it's right in the middle of everything.

Old rooms but cheap. Needs more powerpoints. Has a pool which is free. Internet is not free. 2 blocks from the ocean. Located centrally. I would definitely stay here again.

We wouldn't stay there again. There's nothing to indicate that parking needs to be reserved and costs $10 a night when you book. We were lucky enough to get 1 of the 10 spaces and they did waive the fee because we complained. The room was at the end of a very long corridor. It was okay — the bed was good, and the shower, but the exhaust fan didn't work. There was no microwave and no crockery or cutlery except two mugs, glasses and spoons. When we looked out the windows we had to look past piles of bird droppings and streaked windows. There was nothing in the room to brighten it up, like prints on the wall, and no comfortable chairs. Breakfast on the verandah was very pleasant though.

Stayed a couple of nights. Fine room, but weird non-closing windows and street cleaning beginning at 4 in morning is a bad combo. No Wi-Fi.

Really nice location, the room is nice and clean. No excessive luxury but I would definitely recommend. Super friendly staff!

Hides hotels is an untouched paradise set back in the Beauitful 18th century's
My mother and came to visit and where overjoyed with the positive, happy and friendly staff.
And the elegant yet humbling architecture of the Heights hotel is mesmerising! It's a piece of 18 century history located in the 21st century modern day cairns.
With free breakfast included and a lovely swimming pool to enjoy the hides hotel is the only place to really enjoy the culture and history of Ca…irns. I thank the lovely staff of Hides for there welcoming approach.
We will be back in days!

Good Prices, great central location. 2 blocks from esplanade. Close to supermarket, casino, shopping center, night markets, 24hr McDonald's, tourist shops. Clean rooms. Friendly staff.

Location is great, the free breakfast is good, room is fine, but the Wi-Fi isn't free.

Bad service and even many beetles in the room. I'm so disappointed the reception staffs don't even apologise and realise theirs problems. Hope this helps tourists!

I thought it was a very clean and friendly place. Bare in mind that this place has shared bathrooms. But a fair size bedroom. But I had a great experience here.

My family and I enjoyed our stay there because the location is central and just walking distances to all amenities. We spent 4 nights but our beds were not made and towels not changed — Housekeeping needs improvement on that part! Norah Wokain, PNG, October 2014.

OK, but very basic. Very basic rooms, very basic breakfast (no cheese or sausage), very minimal service. Not too friendly. Internet was breaking up. But it's generally OK and relatively cheap.

Good Location, Good Value! The rooms were descent, the beds were a little too old for me. I could feel the springs in my back. I would go back and stay there again. I didnt know about the continental breakfast until the second day. It wasnt mentioned at check in. I realized it was included later and then asked about it.

Put right in the center of Cairns, in front of the stopping of Bus, just near street side pietonnes and just a step away from the beach. The personnel is very nice, standards rooms are rather mediocre and have horrible view for most of them. (view on a wall of breeze-blocks or view on a garage, or then on machinery). Continental breakfast included in price, in form of sideboard, rather good quality for very reasonable prices.
