Iguana Lodge Hotel

I don’t even know where to begin with how bad this cockroach ridden, cesspool of filth is. Well since I’ve already mentioned them, might as well start with the cockroaches. They are EVERYWHERE should you happen to need the bathroom at night you will surely feel several crunches under your feet on the way to the toilet. Just pray your not bare foot. On my very first day when given clean sheets there was even a dead cockroach mushed into what was supposed to be a clean sheet.
The bathrooms are worse than what you would get at an outdoor festival, no soap, not cleaned, and falling apart. I actually started showering at the gym to avoid using these bathrooms. Not to mention there was no light in our bathroom and we had workmen in and out for days trying to fix a leak. Yeah you get a lot of leaks and stagnant water everywhere in the bathrooms too.
Let’s move on to the beds. Or should I say the piece of foam with a cover on. Terrible excuses for a mattress! You will 100% feel the slats on your back every night and a good night sleep is just not possible.
The kitchen, hallways, common area, and dining areas are also all completely filthy, there was a food stain (or at-least what I hope was a food stain) smeared on the wall and has been there for over a week now, perhaps even longer since god knows how long it’s been there from before I arrived. Every corner has either grime or a cockroach.
I don’t think I’ve seen the hostel PROPERLY cleaned once in a week.

Despicable staff just like cleaning fon everything for you delays loss of key exes noise.

Terrible. Filthy dirty, staff have no respect for people staying.

Disgusting. Cockroaches. Clothes, condoms under the bed. Bathrooms mouldy and drains blocked with hair.

Only reason for this was I left my room at 7pm Sunday night as I had the train back to Melbourne at 8.30pm so dropped my key off but still haven’t gotten my key deposit back, emailed the hostel and still no reply.

When I first came to the iguana lodge I thought it was very cheap, the place was run down nether the less it was only $150 a week so extremely cheap. As my time at the iguana extended over the 3 months I was there the price slowly raised. The only person you can have a conversation with is the man who works on reception on weekends. Here is my list of disapointments. -kitchen extremely dirty -can feel every bar through your mattress -saw at least 4 cockroaches a day (one crawled on a room mates arm -promised Wi-Fi for months eventually got there. -rooms hoovered and cleaned every 2 weeks. The only good thing they do is give you $5 extra back from your key deposit as I payed $15 and got $20 back. Compensation maybe?

Good price and location. Free breakfast included cereal, bread, jam, peanut butter and milk.

Love this hostel so much! It's good value for money in a fantastic location (2 mins walk from king's cross station, Coles, fitness first, and within walking distance to the harbour and nice parks) The staff are super friendly and helpful. It's got all the basics and it's pretty clean too. Definitely will be staying here again and would recommend for both short and long term visitors.

Dirty but little pricey.

Very nice hostel, especially room 10 is very clean and has some friendly and responsible German guys inside who really let you enjoy your stay there. Also, if you're good with them, the friendly owner of this business will love you.

Friedly and supportive staff, but you need extremely low expectations with regard to cleanliness. Pretty much anyone living there does whatever they want, we didn't even have a place to put our luggage from all the dirty clothes on the floor. We wanted to leave as soon as possible.

Great location. Friendly staff. Rooms are okay, nothing special. Price is good for what you get.

One Stupid German in reception. Didn't lend me blanket. And push me out of the gate when I want see the manager. Don't respect others. Selfish and sick.

Very dirty, breakfast very basic, and stocked out, a little signal of Wi-Fi in common areas, the bathrooms had losses, there are no lockers or safety deposit boxes.

The breakfast includes toasts with all kind of jams and butter, cereals and milk. Good location. The bed creak with every movement, the mattress was very used. Poor Wi-Fi. Bathroom very old, but cleaned daily. Not much space in the fridge.

I'll give a longer review once I have time. All I have to say for now is that this is by far in my more than 3 yeras traveling the WORST HOSTEL IVE BEEN TO. It started just being amazingly dirty and messy with no answer or solutions from the owner. Finally after a mistake by them they made me move bedroom on my last night, and the following day when I arrived to the hostel to pick up my stuff after work, the owner went ABSOLUTELY CRAZY with me. Didn't want me to get in the hostel to pick up my stuff or say goodbye to my friends, screamed at me for 15 minutes, and lied on many things. Basically the worst hostel experience I've has in my life. A part from the pictures I have a video of all that happened, in case this guy pretends it's a lie. Really, find some where else to stay. And the opinion on the quality of the hostel is pretty much the same of most of the people that was staying while I did.
