Pool tables and a juke box in a separated area!

Montana the Covid Officer deserves a pay rise. Her attention to detail for our drinks and options for tea were excellent. We hope to return in the near future.

Fantastic friendly staff beautiful mouth watering meals and plenty on your plate. And beautiful cozy beds we will be back for shore. And most of all fantastic price for meals and room.

Good food at affordable prices. Specials are extra good value. Goodbeer etc too.

The meals are bigger than the prices. Great home cooked meals. A must stop you won’t be disappointed.

Some of the rooms are clean the last one I stayed in (rm13) the carpet and walls are filthy and shabby, the curtain rod fell on my head when I went to close the curtains, (the cleaning staff are wonderful and fixed the curtain for me) there is no fan except for a tiny portable one that kept overheating and cutting off, no wardrobe or anywhere to hang clothes, could do with fly screens as big blowflys coming in all the time.
This room is just above the beer garden and pool room so continuous music swearing and loud voices (take ear plugs with you) I was told when I booked in this room was cheaper because of its shabbiness but because I needed to check out one night earlier manager refused to refund me telling me they don’t have rooms at the price that I paid $55 per night yet I see rooms advertised at that price? Oh and the bar fridge on the landing that everyone uses stunk with rotten food. Very disappointed as It is a fun place to eat drink and meet up with friends. I just won’t stay there again though.

Historical bar next to the train station — great place to grab a cheeky beer before getting the train or bus back to Sydney.

Only checked it out cause the old man was staying there but they said it was great.

Good food. Had the lamb cutlets. Will be back.

Had a birthday dinner with family & friends … OMG the steak just melted in your mouth served with a fantastic helping of gravy. The atmosphere was relaxing and warm. Would 100% recommend especially Thursday night steak night …

Very slow bar staff as compared to other Hotels but may be a one off occasion but in regards to the meals they serve they would be hard to beat as a overall option its a a great pub.

An old pub, friendly people & staff r very helpful. The room was average, but cosy & had a tv. Perfect for me.

As many of the prior reviews mention, the Southern Railway Hotel has great staff, a fun and dedicated bar, very good pub food and good wines, and comfy beds. And it's very affordable. But, it's a late 1800s hotel, so it's shared bathrooms. Go there for a couple of nights and kick back and then combine it with taking in the history (and events) of Goulburn. It's a great town and was Australia's first inland city. And, if you combine your exploration with spending a little research time at the Goulburn Historical Society, many of you might find that your migrant ancestors first settled in Goulburn and its districts. Cool, eh.

Closes at midnight on a Friday night. A tad disappointed, will hv to go back another day to spend more time.

Great pub, great location, great place to stay for the night. Clean rooms, hot showers plus kettle and microwave. This is a solid, good value place to stop for the night.

Great pub with friendly staff and lovely beer garden, complete with bountiful plum tree! Centrally located, right next to Woolworths and Goulburn railway station. Accommodation is cheap and cheerful upstairs. Rooms are quaint, clean and tidy as are the shared bathrooms. Would definitely stay or dine/drink here again.

Bed bugs! Got a refund but boy did that require so much running around. They weren't happy about us picking up the refund EVEN THOUGH THEY OFFERED IT. We slept on the floor that night. Not the best expierence!

Wow! What a change, probably less than 2 years ago, I wouldn't have gone into the place, let alone eat there… But now what a change, it's an amazing place, full of character, great staff and extremely good food!

Pub is great. Eclectic collection of old railway memorabilia throughout. Takes you back (depending on how old you are). Lovely beer garden. Pub grub — awesome! Great value for money. The Railway Burger — way to big!
Room 17 — very old. Could do with some new carpet and wallpaper removal — could see water damaged wallpaper and architraves. Bed was comfy and clean. One half of the bedcover was faded. (Maybe time for a little refurb of the rooms). Bathroom (next to room 17) dated but really clean — maybe a mop and bucket left in the bathrooms would encourage the guests to clean up after themselves when they use the shower throughout the day after cleaners have been.

If you like loud music this place is for YOU BECAUSE you room is right above where live bands play most nights. Showers are hopeless. I for one will spend afew dollars more next time in Goulburn as NON REFUNDABLE I STAYED ☹☹☹

Comfy bed, great location, cheap rates BUT a few basic hygenie issues in the communal shower. Rubbish there in shower units for days. The hot water pressure was terrible, a dribble. The queen bed made my room really tight, and if I had kids staying I’d be concerned about the open wiring pulled out of the wall. A power outage topped it off, and the squeaky floor throughout the hallway and room will challenge the light sleeper. Goulburn was awesome.

Stayed there for 3 nights. Rooms are OK for the price. Amenities are basic but ok. Friendly staff. Nice meals only from Wednesday to Sunday. Would recommend for short term stay.

Stayed here recently, really nice girl on the bar gave us the keys to our room we paid $60 for. Hot showers and comfy bed!

What a great piece of Australian history! Stayed overnight with my family of 4. We loved staying here — the whole place was spotless and welcoming. The shared bathrooms were clean and comfortable, I was pleasantly surprised as it was way more clean and presentable that many fancy hotels I've stayed at over the years! Exploring this wonderful place was a highlight — it literally felt like we have travelled back in time. I love the period furniture and detail, from the pieces on the common lounge/breakfast area down to the wall paper and stained glass windows. I would recommend this to anyone, especially families who want to experience old Australia. I would prefer to stay here than any plastic soulless 5 star hotel chain any day! the only thing that would of made our stay better would be more available info on the history of the old hotel and it's stories — mind you that could be the historian in me! Thanks for the experience.
