Well where do I start, arrived for a Christmas function on Friday evening with a party of friends there was a queue for the bar 20 deep as only 2 bar staff working. Sat down about 7.45 and at 8.15 our starter arrived. The pate had half a slice of cold toast with it, the soup was totally bland and the crayfish cocktail contained 5 prawns. Our Turkey msin course arrived on very hot plates which is great and was standard delivered in turkey however the potatoes were pre cooked — either burnt and shrivelled or pale and hard, there was 1 poor lady silver serving brussels and carrots (which were uncleaned and hard) by the time she got round to our table our turkey was cold. 1 ramakin of cranberry sauce for 12 people? When we asked for more it was met with a statement off ' that will be a while coz im busy' Nobody on our table ate the dessert as the cheesecake base was like sand and the top like tasteless glue, the brownie has a very odd texture and flavour and the christmas pud was hard and about the size of 2 matchstick boxes served on a plate with thin custard. The meal took 3 hours in total. At 10.45 we were asked to go back in the bar for the tables to be moved for the disco — the function ended at 12 so 1 hour dancing. We did go to see the manager who seemed pleasant enough but very much had a manner of not really caring although he did offer us 2 bottles of prosecco by was of compensation which we had to ask for twice. The manager then became 'unavailable'. The whole experience was not pleasant and as returning customers to this function' which has in previous years been great' we were saddened to see the venue and service so run down. Previous years the meal came with wine but this year our £27.50 was just for the meal. It wasn't just our table, every table complained. The venue and manager need to look at this as returning customers are essential and attitudes need to change. More staff is a must for these function, people want to come for a party not just an less than average meal. The poor bar staff were both waiting staff too and run ragged as there were only 3 of them for about 80 people. Sad to see it change.
