It is not rocket science to have a good hotel; good beds, good towels, good shower and a decent staff. Basically, that’s it. Then you get all the rest: building, location, food, extra’s, etc. Unfortunately for The Mitre they have only one thing going for them, and that’s the location. The rest is average or downright poor. My bed is a sort of wooden scaffold (with a decent mattress and torn duvet cover), in the filthy looking ‘bathroom’ nowhere to hang your towel and no basin to speak of. The food is ok. The salads I had were great, but the pancakes are factory made and just awful. The staff is really helpful, but underpaid and overworked. The rooms are tarted up with colourful cushions and fancy wallpaper, but that does not cover the fact that this building needs some serious TLC. For me this is a typical money making machine of someone who doesn’t really care about the guests or hospitality. The location and the historical building lure the guests in and after that it’s just cashing in. Very big potential, very ill used.

We ate there last night before going to a show at the Arena. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent with only a short wait. The 25% discount as we were going to the Arena was greatly appreciated.

Only popped in for a pint but place seemed clean, staff were friendly and beer tasted great.

I was shocked at how run down and dirty this place was! Our room was filthy, mould on the walls outside our room! Dirty toilet, dirty tissue on the floor behind the bin!

Food was very average and cold and we had to chase it up. Service has been appalling. We were in there for 30 minutes before anyone took our order and even then we had to ask first then it was another 30 minutes before we got our food. Clearly not enough staff and very poor organisation. We saw people walking out because no one came to them.

They refuse to give my money back. Had a booking for 13th may hotel is closed and I no longer need to visit Manchester because of covid-19. Instead they tried to force me to take a voucher while I don’t need it anymore. I use to stay there before but won’t ever again terrible customer service. Very fast to take your money, not so good when they have to give it back.

We had the twisted afternoon tea, that I won on a Facebook competition. All I can say is wow it was amazing. It was so nice not to have just sandwiches, there was sl much to eat. Halloumi sticks, fish pieces, chips, wraps, sandwiches cauliflower bites (delicious), scones, cake,, macarons and the most amazing meringues. Will definitely be back again for another one and would recommend it 100%. Many thanks again xx.

Great location nice vibe and decor, friendly staff, however only negative, think there situated in London, £9.10 for double gin and splash of lemonade is a little extreme, but apart from that good visit.

Nice friendly bar staff alway happy to help great for a few drinks to kick off the night.

The staff are lovely, could not fault them. The room we stayed in was absolutely shocking. Me and my two daughters were that dissapointed by the room we stayed out walking around the shops till gone 9pm. The window was mouldy, the shower was really bad with mould, we couldn't face getting in it, the toilet blocked everytime you flushed it, the wallpaper was coming off, mould and damp on walls, stains, hole in the wall, over looked by god knows who? They could see right into the room. The sound of next doors shower at 6am was like somebody trying to break in. It felt like a dungeon. The surrounding areas are lovely and the location was great. I couldn't stay there again if that room is anything to go by.

Was here three years ago and since then what a change, looks brilliant, food was excellent and a minor miracle the steak burger nearly defeated my wife. Thanks for slot on service.

Ordered a stater of buffalo wings but although the restaurant was empty they didn’t have any, so was offered chicken strips, with barbecue sauce which was tasteless did tell them. Then fish and chips the chips was so thick they looked like roasted potatoes, and the fish batter so hard and crispy you couldn’t taste the fish. A gentleman did say before we ordered not to bother but thought we would make our own option, on a good note the place is nice and decorated and clean, would go in for a drink but somewhere else to eat, very disappointed ☹️

I expected simple but not this. It's a place to sleep but it's more like a shelter than a cheap hotel. Bad condition. Shower didn't work properly (hot water too low pressure, couldn't shower standing up). The room was clean, I'll give them that. The hotel is located in a beautiful building and the location is great (the reason I picked it). I would give 2 stars but I expect whole and working.

We choose this hotel as it was the cheapest and didn't bother the quality of rooms. Booked rooms for £40 a night. 2 stars for location and access to transport. Most of the pubs and clubs are within walking distance. We didn't try food but I heard from other guest that it was of great taste and quality. The bathrooms and toilets were on sharing basis. Don't expect any toiletries items. The toilets were in poor state and I wonder they even clean it daily. Avoid at any cost if you are with Family. If you are single and looking place to sleep for couple of hours then should be fine given you don't want to spend too much on rooms.

For the price paid I would say I could not expect more. Of course you should be given an aging, but in this area only by raising the budget you will find better accommodations.

Rooms weren't nice at all, nothing like there website pictures. Some of the bar staff and couple girls on reception were nice but apart from that I'll never stay again.

The food was lovely, best and biggest Greek salad I have ever had. A shame the music was so loud, it was painfully loud, asked if it could be turned down which it was for about 10 mins before being turned back up. Even though the food was lovely would think twice before going again because the music too loud to enable you to have a conversation.

Staff were really polite but that's the only posative… We were on the top floor and getting up there was a mission due to the hotel leaning one way you think I'm joking, I was genuinely scared about staying in a leaning hotel. Our blind didn't work so we were woke up early and the light was dim and it made a racket when you turned it on? Stains all over the carpet. I could carry on but I will just describe it as staying in a drug den.

Some staff are nice and polite. The location is absolutely wonderful. I would complain about the rooms if they were priced more then they are right now. This is a budget hotel and I had a mostly peaceful stay so won't like to complain about anything.

Lovely staff however that’s all that’s lovely I wasn’t expecting much for 31 pound however the room is smaller than a prison cell the ‘bathroom is awful if you need a number 2 your feet have to be in the shower and your elbow in the sink, you have to be 4 stone and walk sideways to navigate around the bed The bathroom light cord had to be pulled more Times that a 15 year old petrol hedge trimmer before it came on, the blanket on the bed looked as though it had been used by a homeless person for 3 weeks then given back as it got to dirty for them if your staying longer than a night you have 4 lovely hooks attached to the wall to hang your clothes up however there’s no where for your case to go so I wouldn’t bother, The only reason this is 2 stars and not one is I couldn’t fault the staff.

Modest and simple hotel right in the centre the price was great in booking $90 2 nights The room is cunning, the bathroom own sad but really the location is enviable. The staff is like distilled water without smell and taste, nice and obliging Justo own the necessary. The nice view towards the cathedral.

Location is great! That is all that is great as well.
Staff is unattentive, impatient, borderline rude and will gladly tell you multiple times they are going to solve your issue right before they go back to doing anything but that! Please make note that when booking the 8 persons appartment your group does not include anyone with back problems or other physical issues. Since 3 of you will have to sleep on couches. (Altough promises will be made of matrasses arriving later. Th…ese are all lies. ) The "door" to the bathroom, which functions as a corridor to the bedroom, has no actual door in it and resembles more of a secret "achterhuis" passage which you will have to force yourself though.
Also take into account that you should really be comfortable with each other in the group since this bathroom corridor to the bedroom houses the toilet. Great way to get to know all the smells and views of your group. When not prone to exhibitionism, please reconsider… Calling this a bathroom also requires some imagination since the lack of doors is accompanied by the lack of a shower in general! There is one poorly functioning bathtub, in which you can take turns with the 8 of you. All these complains unfortunately fell to deaf ears, the reaction from Mitre was that they never mentioned in their advertisement that they had a shower! Wow, such wow.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, although the room looked as if it needed to be completely renovated, as there was mould in both the bedroom and the bathroom. Despite this, the bed itself was comfortable, and the room served its purpose for the low price we paid.

We spent a single night here and have no complaints. Its not the Ritz, but then again, they don't charge Ritz prices. It is in an old building but the rooms are clean and safe and the hotel is well located in the middle of town. The staff were all happy and friendly from receptionist, to restaurant and cleaners. The dinner and lunch menu seemed a little expensive but the breakfast menu was reasonable.

The detail of unsatisfied customer reviews led me to believe I was staying in a dungeon for the night especially with probably the cheapest room in the hotel. Most of the reviews could not be further from the actual truth, this hotel is chilled and pleasant, the staff were very detailed and assertive plus polite, and the room was absolutely fine. I feel that people look for faults almost out of a self obliged duty to leave their mark of the experience. The hotel has been refurbished and looks well decorated, the bar is modern/stylish and the atmosphere was relaxed. I would also recommend the mitre hotel to anybody going to events near by as it is right in the heart of Manchester.

This hotel's biggest pro is its location. It's very centrally located, just a short walk from all highlights. The pubs next to it give the whole area a nice vibe. Also, don't be thrown off by complaints about a loud pub under the hotel. We stayed while the weather was amazing and everyone was out and about but still around midnight it was completely silent. There are some downsides, though. The floor is uneven basically everywhere and makes increasingly loud noises as you walk on it. The room (at least the one we stayed in) is small and very simple but that's ok. The bed seemed like it had seen plenty of action. The bathroom was my least favourite place. Moldy, impossible to get the water to a nice temperature. Either too hot or too cold! There was a bath but it kind of felt like it could collapse when you stood in it. After all, not bad but not amazing!

Great location between cathedral and shopping center. In the middle of life with good connections to Metrolink and bus.

Myself and my friend spent a night at The Mitre this week. We had read the reviews and were alarmed, especially about bed bugs and rats. We addressed these issues with receptionist, she was lovely and reassured us. When we went to our room we were pleasantly surprised. It clean, warm and comfortable. The staff could not have been more helpful,. Each member of staff was lovely. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant, which was reasonably priced and the service was. Very good. The same at breakfast. In all I would say we had a good experience. Excellent atmosphere.

Room 29: Mattress was dead 20 years ago, no water from hot tap at all. Cold water pressure so low it wouldn’t run the shower unless it was dribbling boiling or freezing. Damaged blinds so was woken early. Dodgy electrics not up to current standards. Dirty room. Still waiting for call back from someone since 5th March! They sounded surprised about all these issues on checkout, I’ve got a feeling they just take the money and act dumb. Yes it’s cheap, it certainly isn’t cheerful! NEVER AGAIN!

The hotel was great at a cheap price, shower was a bit weak but it was hot so that's always a bonus. It felt safe as well as I'm always cautious with my belongings. You need to be buzzed in for access so it keeps randomers away.

I can describe this place with one sentence, "great presentation, bad content". To be honest it wasn't too bad for a two stars hotel, however the email they sent gives you the impression that you are staying in the Ritz. The front desk staff weren't nice, the room was a mockery and the icing on top of the cake was the no Wi-Fi. It's located on top of a bar, so if you are here for business and have to wake up early this is not the place for you. The location is great and so is the cleanliness of the room. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Lovely staff, who were helpful and polite. Tasty and good value evening meal, and a clean and tidy room to stay in that had comfy beds and all you could need for a short stay.
Just a few minor issues, as there were some items missing from the food menu when we ordered (alternatives quickly offered, at no extra cost), and our food did take some time to come. Also when I ordered breakfast they brought me something I'd not ordered. However they were apologetic, and gave a full refund and so can't fault their customer service at all. Definitely a little shabby — chic, decor wise, but we found it homely and welcoming and would both recommend it to our friends. The location is perfect as is centrally located — and for the price I think it's a bargain!

Where do I start from? The receptionist was extremely rude and had zero manners sorry to say. The room was big but not cleaned at all. Bed spelled a bit funny & carpet was dirty too. Water was not hot as well. There was just ONE dim light in the room. Just not a best nor hygienic place to stay.

I don't know if I'd call it a hotel; it's kind of a budget room come hostel, but if that's what you're after (as we were) it's great! Staff were very helpful, easy to find and superb location complete with pub/bar for food and drinks. 24 hour reception allows easy and secure access any time of the night. Rooms are basic and I'm not sure I would've wanted to try the shower, long stays maybe not their speciality. But it was a budget bed right where and when we needed it.

Dated room bathroom was dirty! Shower door didn't close so bathroom floor was soaked. Bathroom smelt of wee! I don't think the room had been hovered in ages as hair was everywhere.

Great location for an overnight visit! It was a good price and had everything we needed. Very chilled out staff who were very accommodating. Wouldn't recommend it as a luxury stay but if you're in town for a festival or to watch the football you can't go wrong!

Dirty rooms, old carpet, wet and stain-filled. Washbasin and shower without soap. Noisy, you will hear all the music coming from the bar of the hotel itself and the noise of air conditioning equipment all night long. Excellent location. Hotel to avoid.

Attention Bed Bugs Room 29 and can be in the other rooms. Room is dirty and old. The management promised to reimburse us because of the multiple bites of bed bugs but after 3 months still nothing and silence on their part. To avoid absolutely unless you want to bring bed bugs in your luggage!

Nice hotel/inn. Bit rough round the edges, and a lot of decor that could do with mending/replacing/finishing. On that note though would not hesitate to go back.

Great location. Everything else terrible, you get what you pay for I guess. Zero sleep due to noise. Noisy customers and nosiy floors. As visually charming as this hotel is I wished for a generic travel lodge with no creaky floorboards. Room was basic as needed/expected. If want a good night's sleep try somewhere else. If you want to party all night this place is ideal, as no one appeared to be monitoring who was coming or going. Customer's using laughing gas canisters periodically in the corridor… room hopping, doors slamming, conversations in corridor and not to mention the noise from vomiting and sex. I can excuse the latter — do what you want in your room but partying in the hallway is plain rude. Perhaps I should be grateful the sex party was not taken to the hallway. Room 9 — worst.

Stayed over for a night out. The room was clean and bed comfortable. The location was perfect, right in the city centre. The only thing that let it down was paying £7.50 for a continental breakfast because their kitchen was closed. Would come again but not pay for breakfast.

Great location for a base in central Manchester. Room was pleasant. Couldn't get Wi-Fi in my room but there was a great area to sit in reception to get signal.

Room 34 very small next to the stairs and near the reception. No window had to borrow a fan. It was clean but the renovation cheaply done. Smallest wardrobe ive even seen. 1 bedside cabinet no where to put my bits and bobs when I was getting ready. The ensuite was tiny. Very tiny sink. The night pofter decided to put the radio on loud so I didnt fall asleep until 5 am. People coming and going. The bed was vibrating as there was a machine running below us. Its a shame as its central to everything. You get what you pay for. Staff were lovely apart from the inconsiderate night porter.

Close to Victoria station, print works, cornexchange and Arndale. Situated in a busy part of the city. Ideal for an overnight stay if on a budget and just want a night in town. The downside was the room was small with no window and situated right next to reception and the stairs so was very noisy. There was also something mechanical running below the room which felt like the bed was vibrating due to the low frequency humming. The night porter had his radio playing which kept my partner awake therefore making her tired and drained. Ok if you just need somewhere to get your head down for the night after a few beers.

Superb location and welcoming staff. Very reasonable prices considering its location. My room was clean and tidy. No hot water on first night but soon rectified by site staff. Lovely food in the restaurant area but in my opinion a bit pricey. All in all a nice place to stay in a lovely location.

Had poor stock of drink, bouncers were just looking for trouble and even went off to confront some guys very unnecessary and out of their depth. One just wanted to impose himself. Unprofessional.

The room was a bit grotty — clean but wallpaper coming off the wall, and no en-suite, which I was expecting. They do have rooms with en-suite, just check when you book. The shared bathroom had mould all over the cieling. And in the morning my bedside table was wet, looked like a slight leak or something from above. However, the service was excellent, very friendly and the bar is very good. I would stay there again as the location is excellent, I hope they can fix these small problems.

Lovely looking hotel with lots of character. However, our room was directly next to a bar next door so we were woken throughout the night by staff emptying bottles or loudly chatting. Bed wasn't very comfortable and the shower was dreadful. Definitely not the 4 stars it has been given. Breakfast choices were very limited. Great location for city centre and the arena though.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Staff very pleasant. Rooms spacious, bed comfy, bedding spotless, real cosy ambience. Great sleep no noise inside or outside hotel. Breakfast excellent in room overlooking Cathedral. Bar downstair friendly atmosphere. Felt like I was home from home. Central location fabulous what a safe and welcoming City Manchester is in my opinion.

The MITRE is a beautiful building that serves as a hotel, restaurant and bar. It is located in the Centre of Manchester, close to the main shopping street, and it is only 15 minutes walk from Piccadilly station. We were very warmly received by Debby. Unfortunately, the room itself had no toilet, but it was very close to our room (27). It is a pity that the other guests occasionally made a mess. Good bed, clean and tidy. TV and washbasin in the room and plenty of storage space. Housekeeping was perfect, clean towels every day. Were not disturbed, while parties by noise the bar each evening. Very cozy bar, which unfortunately includes, if 20 people in or less exist. The location is top, you can all the atmosphere of the city centre and in our case the numerous Christmas stalls. Really enjoyed.

Not recommended for the French. The service mocks us. It takes more than an hour to be served.

We arrived to find our room would not be ready for another hour as they were fully booked and hadn't prepared the room yet. Not a big problem, as I appreciate that they were full. When we returned after an hours time-killing, we checked in. This only involved me giving my name. I found this a bit odd as normally there's some kind of confirmation email to show them. As well as only having to give a room number, when returning, rather worryingly, because essentially I could have said a number and got into anyone's room. (As They said we had to hand in our keys if we left and collect them again when we returned). Which also created traffic with people returning every other five minutes (leading to the receptionist/barman running back and forth to unlock the door mid-pour of a drink! ). Anyway, the positives. The location is excellent. Right next to both the Victoria train station and the MCR Arena which was the main reason for visiting Manchester. The price of £44 a night for a double room is great, really. No complaints there. The room was what you'd expect for the price, comfortable enough bed, fairly basic, but did the job. Overall, I think if you're planning on staying for a night or two, this is a great place to come, not sure I would have liked any more than that. Great location for lots of places. I think they could do with taking more care with security and didn't really see the point in handing the keys in a collecting. Also not all rooms En-suite.

Was scared for my life in this hotel, was dirty, old, beds were so uncomfortable, smelled bad and in the middle of the night someone was trying to get into our room and you could even see them trying to peek through the crack in the door. Horrendous! pictures don't even look like the hotel.

I'd read bad things on this site about the hotel and didn't hold out much hope for a good stay, but for my £20 — the room was a twin for £40 shared with a friend — it was ok for one night. First the good points of the mitre: the location is fab, very close to the MEN Arena, shopping, train station etc. I had read the sheet were not clean so had taken my own bedding, however our sheets were fine. Now for the bad bits, the room was hot, one of the lights didn't work, the room was not THAT clean. The lady on the recepetion was straightening her hair on our arrival! — but the lady who appeared to run it was nice and so was the chap the next morning. Overall, if you are spending more than £40 I would try to find a few quid more and stay at another hotel. Good for one night only.
