Excellent venue for live music. The acoustics provide a great sound that bounces around the room. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the bar prices are affordable. Would definitely recommend this venue 👍🏾

The atmosphere was fantastic. Non stop, various live acts. A great informal place to have a drink, at the bar or outside, have a dance in a lively environment. Variety of food produced freshly. Food and drink all very reasonably priced.

A consistently great place to go out for good live music and a dance in London. Great live bands at the weekends with relaxed and friendly vibe both on and off the dancefloor. If the question is, "Where should I go out for a good bop in London? " Then the emphatic answer is always Hootenany!

Loved it. Bar staff just fab. Music for over 21. Got a good feeling. Food was fantastic.

I enjoyed the live band to afro beat and soft rock on a night out. I had only drinks although there was some Afro Caribbean food being sold outdoors as well as outdoor sitting. Would recommend this place if you love African music and food.

Absolutely amazing. Different food stalls to choose from. Tried pizza and tacos. Both delicious. And the music. Live bands spot on. We danced so much. Legs hurt the next day.

The place to be if you like to dance or see talented people do it! The Floor Rippers live band was awesome and Leva57 really rocked on the wheels of steel!

Great Nachos, decent priced drinks but more so really good vibes with great reggae sound systems. Great for a Post Lido pint at brockwell Park.

Best night of dancing I’ve had in a long, long time. The bands when I went on July 7th were ska/swing/Balkan fusions (Los Kamer was fantastic! ). The sets were great because I was alone, and I felt comfortable dancing with swing steps, free form, or just jumping up and down! Everyone was there to listen and dance, and no one took themselves too seriously. They also had tacos and pizza pop ups in the beer garden, and they have pool tables in the back. One warning: it gets VERY hot inside, but luckily they have a giant outdoor area, which is great for cooling off between sets. They have free bag/coat check so you can enjoy the dancing, so I would recommend bringing a change of clothes to wear after yours are soaked from dancing! I think* entrance is free before 10pm. I will try to come back every time I’m in London.

The outside area has been a godsend during the world cup, and the screen is really good even when the sun is bright. Obviously it gets crazy busy whenever a game is on but that's to be expected. My major issue with this place is how miserable the staff are, one woman in particular. A couple of weeks ago I was there and it wasn't busy at all, and she didn't say a single word to me when I was ordering and paying — I get its hot but seriously try and be a bit more chatty. Not a big deal at all when the outside area is so good but cheer up, come one!

Excellent party venue, they have different events all the time. From Comedy to Live Bands… Great Vibe & friendly people. Brilliant garden space in the summer. Staff are lovely. Food is good. Community spirit, so it’s also a great place if you local. Never stayed in the hostel but if staying be warned Pub open till 3am!

This place is the epicentre of love and peace in Brixton, if not, the whole world. Well, it felt like that last night. All I am looking for is a venue where it accepts all types of people, any dress code as long as you're comfortable and a place you can get Mexican food or Pizza or even Saltfish and Ackee if you're a bit peckish. This place is it. Full of people from around the world who mind their own business and enjoy their company and music and food. The music is mainly world music with reggae, afrobeat, balkan, gypsy, and jazz, ska and punk. Maybe more. But in my experience here that type of music always has the best people as fans. Great place for sound too. Always love the toilet experience too with the lollypop lady inside. Drinks are a little pricey, but that's OK! Great staff, great location. I will definitely come here again.

Wicked cool venue, great music but the bouncers need to put their badges back in the cereal box. Every time they're so aggressive for no reason. Ruins it really I just wanna boogie.

It was like living in a homeless shelter. I've stayed in a few hostels in Europe, and most are filled with backpackers, a clean bed, and decent beer. The never ending parties till 3 am, the other guests that were borderline homeless, and uncleaned rooms ensured I woke up everyday and got out asap. I was only there to sleep. The free cereal in the morning is great, but with no cutlery I had to use a butter knife I found in the sink for it. The other guests never left the hostel, sleeping all day, never showering, being all around strange and obnoxious they'd obviously been there for weeks and lived there. Most places keep that kind of guest to a minimum but I came to the conclusion the Hootenanny was just happy to make a quick buck. Brixton is lovely though, and the bar and concerts as a non-staying guest is fun. But trying to sleep when the floor is vibrating and you can hear the party all night isn't fun.

Brilliant place for a chilled drink. They offer street food and there are live bands. Went on a Friday night and had a great time. Both the inside and the outside areas are cool. Some security people working there were a bit rude but aside from that it was a cracking night. Last, I was advised to go before 10pm to avoid paying a fiver to get in.

I really like this place. I’ve had some great nights here. They have a big room for gigs and comedy night with a good sound set up and a dance floor. They set up tables and candles for comedy. In another room there are 3 pool tables and ample seating. Good sized beer yard (no grass) to the front where they often set up a good variety of street food at the weekends. The my charge to get in after about 10 on the weekends but the place is well staffed and it feels safe for being so close to Brixton. This place is also open later than most. Beer selection is limited which is where the 5th star has gone.

Been here plenty of times and never had a good night. Staff on the door are pretty unpleasant, music not the best and the space isn't particularly nice.

1st time at this place, had a great time mixed crowd of lovely people Defo be going back for other events.

The room is spacious (6-bed female dorm) and the bed is clean and tidy. Kitchen is big enough and with everything you need, but not quite clean during dinner time, but I understand it is the problem of the tenants here. I don't quite like the bathroom as it is small and have not much place for you to hang the clothes.

Had a great time not too expensive. Thursday night's love to return.

Famous and iconic place. I still dont get why you have to pay to get in on a Thursday when the place is empty… Still, a cool pub. Better on weekends.

It a great vibe nice atmosphere, there one particular bar man that is always smiling which I very rear to see in a bar staff.

As a musician it's a great venue to perform in. Friendly and very capable tech crew.

Friendly and helpful staff but bed was a bit lumpy. Only stayed for one night and was shattered so can't complain.

It's Hootanany innit! Legendary! So many things I could say wrong about it but I'll always be crawling back.

Good atmosphere fun. Could be easier to get in and could be alot cleaner.

Good atmosphere but too hot when busy, they need a mechanical engineer to specify a ventilation supply and extract system.

The venue looks nice and with good lightning for photography and nice sound. But as professional I have never been treated as bad as it happen yesterday when I tried to keep my gear on the green room. Couldn't arrive as early as the artists and been the photographer of one of the bands acting should have had the right for a wristband. Didn't had the wristband and wasn't aloud to leave my work stuff at the green room even with the presence of other artists with their wristbands. Bouncer really rude and aggressive. Maybe the venue should prepare their staff for challenge 25 and drunk and drug awareness, I saw a few costumers that wouldn't have been served in any other place but where annoying other costumers and security did nothing against it. But make a big deal because I needed to leave some heavy gear on a safe place… If security is to prevent any problem and make sure everyone has a good time, I think in this venue they don't really know how to be aware of a few things that any other venue would do without problems. As a professional really disappointed with what happened. Makes me not want to come back to work again and neither promote it.

Great for watching and observing the great people of brixton. Big outdoors space, gigs at the weekend are usually good!

A night out if last resort, not because it's bad but because you always know you'll have fun and live music even if it's not really your thing. Usually busy and buzzing all night.

Huge pub with a great atmosphere. Would recommend going there on Saturday when beer garden is filled with young people and different eateries. The pub I like to go during mach day with my friends.

Red stripe is on tap. Jah bless. 3 pool tables inside, £1.20 a go. Live music and lots of events. Street food cooked in their smoking area. Entry is often free before 9pm, £5 after.

Great place for live music. Also has some amazing food stalls outside until late. Nice chilled out and open vibe and great mix of people. Proper Brixton!
