Fantastic food and service in a wonderful environment.

When you book a FAMILY room for 2 adults and 2 children including breakfast and dinner, it turns out that deeply buried in the fine print is the information that children are NOT in fact included in the dinner and their meals are extra. This is not what you expect when booking a FAMILY package.
The website is grossly misleading and I am extremely disappointed.

Over priced and understaffed. No gowns for the spa treatment. We left then they took more money and still owe it to us. Would not recommend!

Had a back, neck and shoulder massage with Ryan which was brilliant. Spa is lovely and clean, would definitely recommend! 😊

Very spacious and comfortable room. Very clean. Service not great. You can't order a cocktail not on their menu. Food was exceptional however.

Tam and I have come away on what would have been our wedding night as a treat to cover our disappointment. Greeted at reception by friendly and helpful staff, shown to a lovely newly decorated room, swam for an hour in the pool before dinner in The Oak Room.

We booked a last minute night away at Pendley Manor for last Sunday, we wanted somewhere not too far away from home and at 30 mins from us this place is just perfect!
Beautiful grounds, fabulous newly refurbed rooms, staff are amazing, extremely helpful!
Food was delicious, afternoon tea was wonderful and a lovely touch delivering complimentary eye masks to the room in the evenings too!
Pedro the food and beverage manager deserves a special mention, lovely guy and clearly passionate and proud of his role there and the hotel.
We will most certainly be returning and recommending!

Lovely stay and great staff. Food is amazing and the pool was an added bonus. Afternoon tea was lush. A tip though, make sure you book everything in before you come ie pool and treatments etc. We will defiantly come back. Kids loved the peacocks.

Possibly the most shocking service I've ever received. We'd booked for afternoon tea. It took us 20mins to get seated. Lots of staff around but we needed a manager to help us apparently. When he eventually arrived, he wasnt apologetic in the slightest and looked completely out of it. He sat us at a table which was reserved for someone else so after taking our order we then had to move to a table that wasnt even clean. In fact all the tables needed clearing. It wasnt through lack of staff — there was plenty of staff — just not exactly sure what they were all doing! When the afternoon tea was served, the tea was cold, the cups dirty. Average cakes and very average sandwiches. Thank goodness for fab scones and the peacocks! Tea selection was extremely poor and it was Twinnings teabags not proper tea. Much better places to go. Felt robbed paying for the experience and what we get. Very poor.

Good rooms, pleasant and friendly staff, massively over priced food and drink. £4.50 for a side of about 12 chips. £2.20 for a half pintvsida water and cordial, taking the mick. Sandwiches are super market standard 5 times the price, absolutly appalling.

Had our wedding at this beautiful venue! The staff were all lovely, friendly and went out of their way to help make our day go smoothly! Food is amazing! Rooms are beautiful, clean and comfortable. Wedding packages seemed great value for money! Bridal suite is amazing and huge. My suggestions would be more mirrors in the bridal suite for any bridesmaids getting ready together (only 2 in the room) and the cleaner came twice whilst we were getting ready even though the "do not disturb" sign was on the door so maybe a note on the system to say it's a bridal room and won't be empty until the ceremony taking place.

Great environment, fantastic staff, who couldn't do enough for the party of 19. Evening meal and breakfast were spot on. Comfortable and spacious room, clean and tidy.

Such an amazing place! Friendly staff going out of their way to accommodate us, spacious modern room with one of the most comfy beds I have ever experienced (and I have travelled a lot! ) delicious food & beautiful grounds. Our 1 year old little girl was spoilt everywhere she went! She ate with us at the restaurant & loved her steamed broccoli & roasted root vegetables at dinner
She needed a nappy change just as our mains arrived & the staff were kind enough to take my meal back to the kitchen & keep it warm until we got back to the restaurant. Our little girl also took her very first steps at Pendley Manor & once we told the staff we received a glass of Prosecco to celebrate the occasion! The swimming pool was also great and the breakfast buffet was one of the best we ever enjoyed! Brilliant place with beautiful grounds well worth a visit, for a romantic getaway as well as for quality time with family. Our girl loved the squirrels, rabbits & peacocks! We will definitely be back! Thank you to all the staff for looking after us so well.

The entire place is magical. The staff are out of this world. Nothing is too much trouble (a rare find these days).
Pendley Manor is my dream vacation. The chandelier alone fills my eyes with tears EVERY single time I go there!

Appalling, shouldn't advertise rooms when you have a huge wedding, no access to public areas all afternoon, room v near disco, they knew we had children, breakfast worst I have ever had. Lots of inexperienced staff with no support.

A big thank you to Pendley Manor for hosting our wedding last weekend! Beautiful setting (with peacocks! ), the ops team worked tirelessly to helped decorate our reception room and our guests had a fantastic time. Especially thank you to Frances, our wedding coordinator, who helped massively with organising and in the run up to the wedding, and Pedro who made sure it all ran smoothly on the wedding day itself!

Really nice with friendly staff and very clean. Great pool and spa. Food is fab and restaurant lovely. Building is gorgeous but a bit tired and no mod cons or gadgets — only 5 channels on the TV for example.

The setting is stunning. Beautiful grounds and building. Disappointed in bathroom floor not cleaned properly, food crumbs on table. Tap loose. Very basic selection of coffee, tea and single packet of biscuits. I've stayed in b&b's for a third of the price and had better servic. I now need a wet room on the same level access, The floor became very slippery once water on the tiles so had to throw one of the towels down to walk on. Shower curtain a foot off the floor which allowed the spray to extend over a large area of the floor. Bed comfortable. Breakfast was again average, nothing spectacular. I wandered around some of the building and the original wood panelling, stained glass were fantastic. In the unlikely event of ever going there again I'd want to find a deal that reflected the value.

Enjoy afternoon tea with yummy scones. Cater for larger groups so was ideal location. Plus had large garden area for kids to play.

Excellent place. Excellent new-freshly refurbished hotel room made me feel posh. Very nice and friendly female stuff. Males need to learn smile. I can’t wait when refurbishment will come to spa and especially to a sauna room. Basement definitely needs more ventilation. I’m definitely looking to come back.

I think this hotel is a landmark hotel due to its age, decor, peacocks! and its beautiful nature. The breakfast was well organized and chosen. The staff are there to help and guide you through the process, they could give a hotter coffee even though there is nothing wrong with the quality of it. Pool, Steam Bath, Sauna and Gym are there to enjoy, you just have to find it! My room was warm and there is no A/C but who has a memory of 10 day streak of sun and temperatures around 30C in UK?

We had lunch at the hotel for Fathers day. They had a 3 course set menu which was good. And we were able to go around the grounds afterwards around the grounds. Its a nice place to go to for a Sunday lunch and afternoon.

Gave 1 star as couldn’t give half a star. Stayed here June 2018 for a wedding … hotel is aweful staff are incompetent. Reception constantly unmanned. Bedroom facilities either broken or unavailable. Rooms dirty and detoriarating. Breakfast under cooked and made a few of us ill. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to my enemy. Overpriced everything… hotel needs to work and we stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms.

Not as good as it once was. It looks a little tired, although the re-upholstered chairs in the Shakespeare bar are lovely. They don't seem to be too sure what a vegetarian and a vegan are.

Stayed in the refurbished rooms and had breakfast in the conservatory. Very comfortable and good staff. Everything was clean and comfortable.

Brilliant experience. My elderly mum had a great ground floor room in a very clean and modern bedroom. I had a higher room, but we both agree we had a great nights sleep. Staff are great. Grounds are fantastic. Wi-Fi worked everywhere. Overall a great experience and I will be back.

I’ve stayed at Pendley Manor on quite a few occasions, some very good and some not so good. This time we were in a refurbished room and it was very good, plenty of space, big lcd tv, huge bed and good bathroom and shower.
We were there this time for a Murder Mystery event which was excellent. Food during the event was very good and the table staff were great.
I’d have given a fifth star if it was for a) the crazy drink prices, and bar staff. It’s a small bar but for most of the evening there was only one person serving. This took so long we actually missed a vital part of the murder mystery questioning. Last point is the the chap behind the bar, although ok at his job, has the most expressionless face I’ve ever seen. We tried a bit of conversation with him but were left with a blank look from him so gave up.
I wouldn’t let this put you off the hotel as it’s very good and if you want a cheaper drink and jovial host, there’s a very good pub about a mile away on Tring high street.

Lovely Hotel with great grounds to walk round food was nice bit pricey tho but was a great break.

Stayed 1 night and found this hotel to be charming. Beautiful large staircase with fireplace and chandeliers. The room we stayed in had a four poster bed and was massive and surprisingly warm with views over the gardens. The bar was lively and food was good. The only downside was the room was looking tired and bed was quite firm. However, there is a plan for complete renovation between 18/19.

Visited this wonderful place today for a family tea, I've been here on and off for the last 10 years. The staff were very helpful, we ordered specific food for the kids and they were happy to accommodate us. The conservatory needs a little TLC, however the grounds and the rest of the hotel was superb and in perfect keeping. They still have wild rabbits running around and two lovely peacocks strolling the grounds. We will be returning. If you have kids and are looking for somewhere different this is a must to visit.

A wonderful afternoon tea in the beautiful dining room. The food was delicious and endless, but the staff managed to keep our plates full and tea flowing — despite a room packed with excitable family reunions, they moved amongst us efficiently & discreetly with little disruption but lots of smiles! Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.

A very nice place with charm, history and character, a world away from the ubiquitous chain hotels, which have their own place but nice to find somewhere different, definitely worth a visit and a stay or even a chillax.

So I was a bit conflicted about my recent stay at Pendley Manor. I stayed for one night as a treat for my partners birthday and had a valentines meal and breakfast with the room. From the get go it was a very nice atmosphere, staff were friendly, and the room was very nice. The swimming pool area was fine it was a bit of a weird walk to the sauna and needed a bit of updating considering the price range of the hotel. The meal for the evening was fantastic and I would highly recommend anyone eating the evening dinner. However the breakfast was pretty appalling, everything was very cold, the mushrooms were tinned, the hash browns were just small balls of misery, the egg was rubbery and the bacon was cold. I do not believe the same standard of chefs cooked my evening and breakfast meals based on this evidence. We unfortunately made the poor choice of getting the breakfast delivered to the room which costs £3.95 per person which is ludicrously expensive, this is also the pattern with the drinks which costed us £10.90 for two pints of estrella lager. We really enjoyed our stay however the hotel needs an overhaul to make the high price worthwhile.

Lovely manor hotel in super grounds with a spa and pool. Unfortunately didnt have time to experience spa. Food was lovely, drinks expensive, but that is hotel prices. Pillows were lovely. Went for a murder mystery evening, which was fun with friends, but not very intelligent. You stay in the restaurant and characters enter playing their part. However the narrator was also the victim, so a little confusing. I would have preferred to happen upon the crime scene and taken in all the clues, rather than being fed them. Would go back again, but not for murder mystery event.

Avoid, avoid! We went in October 2017 and our first room was freezing as the heating wasn't working in the old part of the hotel. So, we were moved to a beautiful new room. It too had no heating and we ended up asking for an extra duvet and were also brought 2 small radiators (which did nothing).
We complained on checking out and the receptionist wasn't interested that were didn't have a good stay, she just wanted us to pay our extras for our bill. So, we complained and spoke to the manager Ricardo (who was lovely), he could not apologise enough and gave us a small discount (30% off our room) and asked us not to be put off and please come back, he would look after us. So, January came and we called the hotel, emailed the new manager Claire and she gave us a complimentary night stay and breakfast. So we booked for 9th February. We arrived, checked in, positive that everything would be ok this time. We were went to our new superior room (number 148) and immediately was hit with a terrible smell of sewerage! We just got ready, thinking the smell would go away, made sure the "heating was on, according to the instructions we were given" and went for dinner then came back to our FREEZING COLD room! We called down and asked for some additional radiators, explained this happened before and that we would like to cancel our second nights stay (which we were paying for) as it was just too cold, the Heating wasn't working AGAIN!

Been to Pendley Manor twice now and thoroughly enjoyed both my stays. Hotel has quite an old feel to it which adds a lot to the charm. Nice grounds, nice rooms, and a nice breakfast.

Lovely hotel. They are currently updating. We stayed in a lovely room. Gym is very small and equipment wasn't great. It was down long corridors underneath the hotel. Not very attractive. Spa wasn't the best, over priced for what you got.

Perfect venue for my Cousins wedding this weekend just gone. Beautiful decor throughout and the ballroom was just stunning for the evening reception. Lovely big comfortable refurbished bedroom. Excellent service and delicious food.

Lovely room but the positives stop there. There was a wedding that night and we wrre put in room that we could hear the thudding music until midnight but had no prior warning of this. When we phoned reception to complain we were told there was nothing they could do about it and essentially just to deal with it. Offered nothing to apologize. There's an unpleasant smell around the whole property and many of the walls and carpets look damp and run down. Breakfast sitting area was okay but the actual selection was below average, as was the quality of the food on offer. We were not offered tea or coffee until just before we were leaving. The "Spa" is not a Spa and the "gym is not really a gym. The changing rooms are tiny, only big enough for 1 person to change. Both the main pool and the Jacuzzi were freezing. There was no greeting at the Spa entrance. Even though you've paid significant amounts to stay at the hotel you are not allowed a robe unless you've paid for the specific Spa day. The Sauna is located through a series of corridors, well away from the main pool area. The gym is all the way underground and consists of a few dumbbells and a treadmill. If there were 2 people in there you'd be struggling for space and there's no real air flow into the tiny room. Checkout was quick and easy but at no point during the entire length of our stay or when leaving were we asked how our stay was. The hotel is falling apart and the service and facilities are well below par.

Don't forget to check out the ugly clock in reception* Beautiful settings, grand house with so much potential, my room was comfortable but straight out of the 80s, desperate for an update, after having a look around other parts of the hotel, there were other corridors which were much more modern so presumably other rooms are much newer. Used the limited gym which was okay but definitely needs some new equipment as most of it is well past its life. Pool and Jacuzzi OK, changing rooms cramped and requires an old £1 for the locker. Breakfast was disappointing, service fine but quality of food below par. Can't say I'd stay again.

Lovely accommodation, comfy bed and nicely refurbished although showers were barely warm. Let down by staff attitude on a number of occasions especially concerning the service of drinks in the private function bar. Also disappointed that the hotel bar closed to residents at 11:30 pm on a Saturday night. Staff encouraged us to continue drinking in our rooms by ordering room service rather than opening the bar. They eventually did serve wine only if this was charged to our rooms although they would not serve prosecco. A very strange situation in a hotel!

I have covered a couple of Wedding's at Pendley manor. Situated in a lovely rural location with beautiful grounds and 2 or 3 resident peacocks! The house itself is very traditional and has lots of charactor. The grounds are very nice and well kept. Lots of space available for photo opportunities. A great setting for a wedding or event. Having read the reviews my husband and I booked Saturday 14th for 1 night and booked an evening meal as it was my birthday. All packed leaving work in an hour, at half past 1 my husband received a phone call 'sorry there problems with some rooms and ours were not ready. We knew refurbishment was taking place. They then said we could book into a holiday inn! they are cheaper. Really I mean really! they would give us a taxi and still have our evening meal there! salt in a wound or' this is what you are not getting all this splendour. ' if we wanted a cheap night out 'holiday inn' yes, but this is not what we wanted. Would we book here in the future, I doubt it. We found a little gem in a small lodge with lovely hosts at the very last minute. Pendley manor you done us a big big favour. We know a lot of people and we will not be recommending you!

I had the pleasure of attending a wedding reception today and as a vegan I'm often disappointed with food I get offered. Not the case at Pendley Manor hotel. I can honestly say it was one of the best main courses iv had. Lovely surroundings and lovely staff. Perfect afternoon. Thankyou.

Very pretty venue for a wedding. Beautifully put together. Bar staff were slow and drinks weren't great but to be expected when so busy I suppose. Room was quite small for the number of people though.

Absolutely gorgeous… Lovely renovated rooms with comfy beds large and nicely decorated in contemporary style. Bathrooms awesome and fantastic rain showers oozing hot water. Central air-conditioning and double glazing. Lovely rural setting rabbits and squirrels running around and peacocks roaming. Nice Buffet breakfast too. Friendly service throughout and quick checkin/out. Loved our stay and will be back.

Very happy with our stay at Pendley Manor. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. The refurbished family room was extremely comfortable, clean and pleasantly decorated. Breakfast was great, with plenty to choose from and lovely surroundings. All round I would recommend it, and would stay again, if we where in the area. Ps. The resident peacocks and rabbits were of great amusement for the children and adults alike.

We got married here last Sunday and everything and everyone was amazing. The staff were fantastic and friendly and the place was beautiful. The food was complimented on by many of our guests and we had a fantastic day. To name a few staff personally Rob, Jonathan, Hugo, Lucy and Zach-thank you for making the lead up to and our day incredible!

We attended a team building event with my workat the hotel and around the grounds. There were some renovation works going on at the time but they didn't disrupt our visit. We were provided with drinks and bacon sandwiches for breakfast and a buffet lunch which were both nice. We had a good time there and I'd be happy to go back.

Room 201 was not 4 star luxury. It was a small sweat box in the eves of the building, The bed filled up the room, and as for the TV circa 1970 poss 5 channels not good. Sad because a nice hotel bar the room. Everywhere else was opulent and nice food was good too but totally let down by pants room sadly.

I recently visited site for Afternoon Tea, I have to say it was one of the most enjoyable experiences I have ever had, my friend and I were celebrating our birthdays and we received the most amazing service from Hugo & the team, the Peacocks that roam the site are beautiful and make the whole atmosphere very relaxed and picturesque. We will definitely be visiting again. Initially, we were supposed to book the Laura Ashley Hotel, but they were rude when we tried to book so glad we got this little gem instead. Big thank you again to the Team!

I had friends stay here when they came to visit us and I spent a few hours chatting with them in the bar and ended up staying for a late lunch. The service was very good and we were able to enjoy some drinks and meals from a very welcoming team. We hadn’t anticipated staying for so long, certainly not for a late lunch, as there are plenty of other options nearby but we were so impressed by the ambience and service we wanted to enjoy it more. One small comment is that the Wi-Fi is a bt patchy but thankfully it is free. Some mdernisation wouldn;t go amiss but overall we foudn it a welcoming place and with tasty food and great service we will be back.

3 of us went for afternoon tea. We were seated in the Peacock Lounge which was beautiful — lovely & light with views over the gardens & peacocks. The food was delicious, including freshly baked scones which were still warm, & we couldn't eat it all so one of the waiters boxed us up the leftovers to take away. The only downside was that we were the last ones to finish & were somewhat abandoned by the staff. Eventually a waiter appeared but I don't think he understood English as he just stared blankly then walked away when we asked for the bill & our coats. Another came a while later who was helpful though.

Food was excellent. The room we stayed in was clean, tidy and the bed was comfortable. Facilities were good although we didn't manage to get any spa treatments as they were fully booked. Book in advance to avoid disappointment. Pool area clean and tidy.

Came to Pendley for a spa day one Sunday in February. The building looks lovely from the outside and there are highlights inside like the lobby and dining rooms. However, the spa facilities are very tired and very much in need of an update. It didn't feel very luxurious at all. The gym and sauna are separate to the pool in the basement and you have to go through the workings of the hotel to access it (mop buckets in corridors, chemical rooms etc). Everywhere felt damp and a bit dingy. The staff at reception were quite rude. However, the food was great! Generous portions and good quality — waiting staff were much better than the receptionists. I would not revisit as I have been to much better equipped spas nearby and Pendley seems to be a bit stuck in the 90s.

Warning ask if any work going on as I went away for two night break and on friday and saturday they had work going on in room next door to shakespear bar could not sit and have quiet drink during day I had gone awayfor two nights for my wedding anniversary. Friday was great nice pool and jacuzzi. Warning if walking to sauna take some warm clothes as you have to walk down a cold corridor and you will need your card. I also asked for ropes and slippers when I booked my weekend away and was told no slippers available when I checked in on friday but on saturday found people walking round in flip flops didnt get offered on check in but got offered when having spa treatment sat afternoon bit late on offer I think! I got kicked out a room on saturday morning I was sitting there reading reading withmy wife not making any noise even a spa party of ladies got asked to leave no notice up and no reason given to why it was was reserved but one family of four members was allowed to stay. Was told we could sit in shakespear bar if we wanted but could not as to noisy to read as the room next door was having work done not on one of the days but both friday and saturday. Room was spacious as I booked the bigger room could do with updating the walls are thin as I could hear the people in the room next door talking. Food was expensive for choice of evening meal.

Lovely building and grounds but rooms could be more up to date. Ok pool and gym area but cold to get too. Also beware if you walk from to pool to the sauna and dont have your card to get back through the door. You have to take the walk of shame though the entrance hall via the bar in you (wet) swim ware. Not super fun on a cold March evening.

I had to change rooms due a noisy vent outside my window. Hotel is ok, but they shouldnt have rented that room in first place.

The only negative was the room, good size, lovely views of the gardens but the décor was very tired, terracotta and cream with a pink carpet, ripped wallpaper, the bathroom had several broken floor tiles, very discoloured and stained radiator next to the toilet (! ), the back of the bathroom door was both dirty and paint worn away. But at least we had a very comfortable bed and lovely fresh bed linen and towels. It didn't spoil our visit — just a shame the room was a bit neglected.

I held my daughters wedding at this venue in July 14 the staff are fantastic, nothing too much trouble, the food outstanding rooms great Simon suite lovely we would not have hoped for such a perfect day thank-you all soooo much x.

We had absolutely no gripes with our stay, and really enjoyed breakfast.

Gorgeous surroundings and great fresh country air. Everything is in pristine condition.

It was so lovely, great views from our room, great for walk abouts, the staff were so helpful, breakfast was brilliant so much to choose from, would definatly go back for a longer period next time.
