We’ve never been to Lynmouth before and eat at Rock House, the food was amazing, staff really friendly and helpful, top class and will definitely come again, my husband has even sent a positive message on trip advisor x

Rock House Hotel is under new management. When we visited they had been in place for 7 weeks. In fact, we only booked there because we heard that the management was going to change as people had reported issues with the old one. We were there for three days in September, 2 adults plus dog. Some observations: Some of the furnishings are a bit tired but the management are well aware of this and are working on it. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is very good. The restaurant menu is being developed and can be expected to improve, at the moment it is a simple bar menu. The room was perfectly adequate and clean, no problems with hot water or shower. Bed firm. The location, down over the footbridge from the town, is superb. There is a garden, and in the area beyond is an 18 hole putting green, a children's playground, and a short beach walk — though the beach is stony. It is far enough from the town for road noise not to be a problem. There is a large verandah, which is convenient for dealing with wet dogs and muddy boots. The stairs are a bit steep by modern standards and this should be borne in mind by people with restricted mobility. There is a car park but the spaces are not very large. A large Audi, Range Rover or BMW might have difficulties. Normal size cars no problem. We thought it was good value for money and might well go again.

Breakfast was good, staff friendly. Room was a tad small, although we had views from 2 windows (room 7), parking was interesting — very small space to manoeuvre so take a smart car. We went in August and the weather was temperamental, but the heating wasn't on — it wasn't a problem for me but it was for the misses. Bed was hard and pillows even harder so take your own if you like soft pillows. Wall between rooms was a tad thin, just a stud wall so we could hear next door chatting. I understand it is getting an update in September but not sure if that is just the bar. Free Wi-Fi, tea making in room with biscuits and free bottle of water.

Adequate is the best description I can come up with. Good breakfast but nothing special otherwise.

We popped in for a meal at 8pm, 3rd Aug ‘18 to be told the kitchen stops serving food at 8pm which we weren’t aware of, it wasn’t a problem with us we could’ve gone elsewhere, whilst we sitting in the garden a gentleman came out and asked what food we would like to order as it wasn’t an issue and he could cook something for us if needed? This was great news after experiencing a long drive from the Cotswolds. We both had fish & chips with salad, lovely tasty food, glad we stayed! Excellent service, will remember this establishment and would recommended to others! Will return when next in the area. I don’t often write reviews but felt I needed to show our appreciation, thank you.

Best location in the village with it's own parking — very rare. Lovely, well decorated rooms, we had number 1, with the Lyn river to lull us to sleep. Best breakfast around — kept us full until evening. Welcoming staff and a decent price.

Been to many times before and really enjoyed. This year taken new puppy on lead into their garden for food. The hotels dog which was roaming the garden viciously attacked our 6 month pup. Had to leave the garden and no hotel staff came to help. Will not be returning. Cannot imagine if there were any young children left in that garden. Such a shame after traveling miles to visit.

Beautiful location shame hotel is totally run down and in poor state. Arrived at 1pm to be told room wasn't ready. Hotel totally quiet. Room lovely but very unclean. Mouldy windows. No tea bags or even toilet rolls. Had a confortable night and went to breakfast. Cold tea. Completely unorganised chaos. Understand under staffed at this time of year but only 2 of us couples stayed. We only stayed one night, please stay away lots of problems with police and drinking. Taken in by riverside hotel highly reccomend very lovely and clean.

Had a lovely lunch sat outside, good portion of sandwiches, great veggie burger & a delicious 6oz BBQ burger.

I asked about food suitable for my 17month olds allergies and I was told he refused to cater to fad diets… appalled is not the word. This disgrace of a man needs educating… he appeared drunk. Despicable service and very rude. Allergies are NOT fad diets and can be life threatening. We walked out.

The evening menu is quite basic, but this is not so much of an issue with the excellent alternatives in the town. Also, their breakfasts are great. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff are very friendly. Would definitely recommend.

The Rock House Hotel served a fish 'stew' which consisted of a couple of tiny pieces of fish, 3 muscles, 2 potatoes and 2 pieces of carrot swimming in a fish flavoured stock. Not even a fish soup never mind a fish stew. The really efficient and friendly Polish waitress was embarrassed as she had recommended it to us. All this for over £12 a serving!
