Superb, the room's are well appointed clean and tidy. The staff were friendly and welcoming and very helpful, even though the hotel was full with a wedding reception the staff still gave you that special attention. The food is of a good quality and the portions are of a good size and reasonably priced. The surrounding area is stunning and lovely and peaceful. 20 minute's bus journey takes you straight into Darlington town centre.

We have eaten at the George on several occasions, whether it be Sunday lunch, evening dinner or weekday lunch and the food has always been top notch: tasty, plentiful and cooked to perfection. The view and garden at the rear is the perfect setting for relaxation. Above all the staff are very friendly and helpful, creating a great atmosphere. Don't forget to check out the history: Roman, Dick Turpin and the grandfather clock.

Great location. Building looks a little tired. Staff were very efficient with regards to service but not particularly observant with regard to checking glasses for cleanliness. One of our wine glasses still had lipstick marks from a previous customer. When this was pointed out, the waitress poured the wine into another glass and served it. Haha. Food was ok, no better or worse than expected.

Great place if you're travelling with your pet, lovely staff and felt very welcome.

We booked The George for a weekend away, the staff were fantastic and the breakfast was good, the place is tired, dreary and in desperate need of maintenance. We were shown to our room and although it looked dark and run down we thought we would give it the benefit of the doubt. We noticed the tap in the bathroom was broken and constantly running which was noisy at night, although the mattress was worse so did not sleep well anyway. We were pleased the room had doors opening to a balcony looking over the river. On closer inspection. We found the doors screwed shut as the balcony was rotten and unsafe. It was also blowing cold air through the aged single glazed windows which would not have been so bad but the radiator would not work so the room was freezing. The last straw was when we requested a room with a bath, unfortunately what they did not inform me is that there was no hot water to fill the bath. We were given excuses from the boiler had tripped, it had been reset and give it an hour. We went out for a while and came back again to no hot water at 3pm. We was told it was timed and guests don't usually check in until the afternoon hence no hot water. We asked what if guests were staying for more than one night, do they have to time their bath/shower? We checked out after one night feeling grubby due to no hot water and found another hotel with availability. We arrived and felt as if we could finally relax.

Nice spot but a little run down. We ate here about a year ago and the food and service was poor. Expensive, probably as there was a wedding on. Wouldn't eat there again.

Beautiful hotel gorgeous homemade meals and breakfast was lovely and a good choice Staff so friendly and helpful chatty and knowledgable Would highly recommend and was perfect place to spend our wedding night Rooms are lovely and comfortable too And the views Well done Thank you.

Exceptional value for the money, quiet, clean, comfortable, food good, staff helpful and friendly. Added bonus we were able to have our dinner outside with a view over the river. It is not five star accommodation, but you will find it hard to get better value for you money.

Quiet, clean and comfortable. Room is a good size, and warm (a bit too much actually). Minor negatives: * The water pressure in the shower was very poor — not much more than a dribble * The cooked breakfast had obviously been sat under a heat lamp too long — the hash brown was dry, the fried egg had turned into rubbery hard boiled, and the bacon was drying out too * The salmon was thick, chewy and a bit tasteless The staff were pleasant and it's a perfectly decent B&B but given the customer satisfaction ratings and other reviews, we were expecting to be more wow'ed than we were. Don't avoid, but set expectations accordingly.

Quaint and very welcoming place. Roaring fire and the food was delicious… We will be going back.

Just had an overnight stay at the George Hotel in Piercebridge. Typical of an old Coaching Inn. A lovely warm welcome by the staff & a roaring coal fire, what more could you ask for on a cold February day. Our room very big & had two windows, a comfy bed & huge bathroom. I'd read a very negative review the day before we travelled & was a bit apprehensive. I had no need to worry, nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. Even to the point of when we decided to take the rwst of our wine vack to oyr room after dinner, we were offered more ice & fresh glasses. Will definitely be back. Possibly in the summer as The George Hotel sits right on the river, with fantastic views. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Just had a nice snack in the bar our dogs were also welcome.

Great place, really friendly staff Area if quiet remote which can be a benfit, great food also.

Rooms are nice and beds comfortable so could be a very nice stay for a few days… we found the drinks Expensive and we waited 45 minute for a bacon sandwich at breakfast which was cold when we got it.

My wife and I called in for an evening meal. The welcome was pleasant and we ordered our meals: chicken for my wife and steak pie for me. No issue with the chicken meal but the steak pie was not the most pleasant I've ever had — meat quite mixed and in part consisted of gristle, pastry doughy, peas hard and hand cut chips tasted as if they had been reheated. The meal was returned unfinished. I informed the waiter of these points and he said he would tell the chef. On his return the only response I received was "the chef sends his apologies"!

Very friendly and peaceful. Great food and Staff were very helpful.

Stayed Saturday 11th Nov, room was good but couldnt get the room radiator to work, nor, the bathroom towel heater. Notified management who went to sort it out while we dined at the near by Fox Hole (we had a voucher). Upon our return we were told the problem was resolved but sadly wasnt. However, the saving grace of our stay was Ben, the bar man. This young man singlehandedly saved our review being a 2 star… Well, Ben and the breakfast… Also served by Ben.! No cocktail was beyond his ability, even an unadvertised Woo Woo or three were all taken in his stride whilst chatting and relaxing his clients. Truly a credit to the hotel and a credit worth rewarding. Will be back… For drinks… fix the heating and we might stay! Well done Ben.

We got married here yesterday, and it was the most magical, beautiful, perfect day of my life. I loved every single second, and was masterfully helped through any and all bridal breakdowns by Ben and Carrie — they couldn't do enough for us. Every single member of staff went above and beyond for us; the ceremony room looked like a film set and when we sat down for dinner the staff appeared again almost instantly. We will definitely be spending an anniversary here. Beautiful venue, beautiful views, magical staff. We are so grateful!

10 of us went for Sunday dinner what a big let down the food was cold, 9 of us had finished our starters before the last one arrived, the main was cold I sent mine back. The staff were not very helpful at all and the manager was a waste of time will not go back again.

Poor really nice people but rooms full of flies and musty. Beautiful view outside food is better in the pub over the bridge.

We stayed here for 2 nights and found the staff friendly, the accomodation comfortable and the breakfast and evening meals very enjoyable. We are definately looking to return in the future.

Really nice place. Staff are so helpful and friendly, at least the bar staff are. Really expensive at the bar though. Way more expensive than any local pub or club that are actually my local. Outside view is phenomenal.

Lovely gardens with river running through but could do with getting a glass collector out more ioften. Food friendly in the bar. Specialising mainly in weddings and functions by the look of it.

Popped in for Sunday lunch, food was lovely. Bar and restaurant staff were great however we weren't asked if we would like any sauce/condiments but the table next to us were asked bit it's just a minor thing. The music was really odd, greatest 80s hits or something which was alright but the staff decoded it was loud enough and turned it up halfway through and then was a bit too loud. Would definitely go back but only if dining in the bar area.

We love this place. We married her last October. Staff lovely. Food fab. Perfik! Will be back again soon.

We stayed on the mews. There was only one complaint. The door was ill fitting meaning there was a draft and with no double glazing or way to control the heat we got a little cold. However, if you take that away, this is a hotel in a gorgeous location right by an English heritage site. The room was very clean and comfortable and wonderfuly quiet meaning we had a really good sleep. The hotel is steeped in history and those of you that are clairvoyant will pick up some very strong spirits in the bar area as I did. Will definitely come again.

Staying in the annex 220 jasmine. Nice room. Slight problem as with a lot of hotels finding a socket for a hairdryer near a mirror. Ended up crouching to dry hair. The body wash was empty too. Everything else spot on. Lovely food. Breakfast brilliant. Staff friendly. Second stay here and we would recommend and visit again.

The rooms were ok apart from the shower because there was no hot water. We had a meal and the fondant potato was not cooked all the way through, or sticky toffee pudding was cold and hard. The hotel itself was too hot, the heating was on very high throughout the stay making it quite uncomfortable. The rooms are cheap though and serve a purpose.

Went for Sunday lunch. Service was excellent, polite and attentive, and the food was superb. They catered for my six year old son also, which was fantastic. Definitely recommended!

This is a classic old pub that's grown into a wedding venue. The gardens are quite big and are nice. The nearby Roman remains and farm shop are attractive. Beyond that it's nothing special — the food and the bar are pretty average.

Stayed over easter very nice hotel staff very pleasant and helpful couldn't find any faults in the hotel or staff such a perfect setting.

Since the new management moved in the food and service standards have increased dramatically. 5 stars for hygiene, they would get 5 stars from me for service and food quality too. Recommend you pop along for a lovely family Sunday meal.
