Amazing find today whilst we are on holiday in the Lake district. The food was big portions especially the children's cheese burgers. the lady who served us was so lovely, and we will definitely be back. Thank you.

Had an absolute ball of a time… what can I say, the hotel was really good, the food was amazing, cannot fault the food, big thank you to Caroline, fab chef, also want to mention all the bar staff, Donna, Jack, Elie and Tina for making our 3 day stay really special, nothing was too much trouble for them and will definitely be booking again. Also met some lovely friends Samantha and Martin. thank you from us and the dog (Drogo) for a fabulous stay and thank you for the memories, see you all soon. Lisa & John x Oh and the views of the mountains are spectacular, no wonder this is a very popular place to stay.

Great venue with loads of history, decent beers and good food. Location is brilliant too. We stayed in the family room and had a great weekend with the kids and our dog. Would recommend!

Had a sandwich lunch after a lovely walk from Braithwaite. Excellent location typical old world charm. Very reasonably priced food and very attentive staff. Perfect way to spend Christmas Eve. Will certainly be back in the summer.

Asked if they were serving food at 15:00 and the waitress replied we don’t serve food outside. When there was a sign saying food outside untill 18:00 and there was condiments on our table. She didn’t give any alternative as if they serve food inside or what time they stop serving food. Her customer service skills were terrible to say she works in that sort of business. She just didn’t want to know. She was just plain rude so we just thought there not worth us spending money there and left. That was probably the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced and I’ve ate at lots of restaurants in different countries which says a lot. Probably because we’re not from around this area. We also spoke to a couple walking past that said apparently they’re too busy for them too have a drink yet there was free tables and they said they just weren’t welcome to which I can understand. The waitress had dark hair.

Paid £17.55 for 2 pints of beer, a pint of coke and a medium glass of wine (even though I asked for a small) and a packet of crisps. No thank you, won’t be visiting again.

Lovely pub with beautiful views. We stopped here after completing a walk up to Catbells. We were there during the day and it was lovely for either couples or families. We had cocktails post walk and they were delicious and beautifully presented, although slightly on the expensive side, but didn't mind because of the views. They are still working on the outside area, which I think will be great when the creepers have started to grow fully. I imagine at night with fairy lights it would be very romantic for couples.

Nice little place to grab something to eat and watch the world go by. Stunning scenery from the gardens. The pub is dog friendly which is great if you have canine friends. An enjoyable visit.

Really great food and brilliant service, can't fault it in any way. As a vegan and vegetarian it's often difficult to find good food but the sweet potato and spinach curry was really tasty and not too spicy and my husband loved the roasted vegetables and gnocchi in a cheesy sauce. Will definitely visit again!

Beautifully placed Swinside Inn, in the lovely Newlands Valley nr Keswick. Fabulous views overlooking the fells. Friendly staff, comfortable surroundings, excellent food. All positive points of view. Definitely a visit not to be missed.

Stayed at the Swinside in June. The pub hosts a 10in10 fells walk in aid of MS research. We did the walk and returned to a party atmosphere with live music and a BBQ. All great fun. Place was heaving but the staff were fantastic and the beer superb! Great location and stunning views from the garden and from the rooms, which were very comfy. They did a vegan option for our son for breakfast which was lovely. A gem of a pub! Will be definitely going back next year!

Large beer garden with great views. Managed to get a table inside on a busy night. Layout is a little sprawling inside with lots of small rooms. Tables are a bit packed in. Beer choice was reasonable and quality fine. Fish and chips was excellent and the veg curry was OK if not great. They serve food much later than any other place in the area. Good parking. Would return if in the area.

Lovely pub, fantastic food (big portions, of course! ), and good selection of drinks — they have a 'double sunset' brewed specifically for them, which is light and refreshing, 3.8% or so, and perfect after a walk (or after a long day sitting on your arse).

We visited the pub for food about 7.30 on Easter Sunday. The staff where attentive, friendly and helpful. They quickly found out allergy questions regarding the menu too. I had roast ham Sunday Dinner and my partner a Gammon Steak. Both where good quality, a reasonable size and fair price for the area.

This was our 3rd stay at the Swinside. The 1st time we stayed in "Barrow" which was a great room with wonderful views. 2nd time we stayed in "Hindscarth" which was great but not so great views. 3rd time we stayed in "Causey Pike" (a birthday treat from my hubby) which was,,,,,, WOW. There was a dressing room with wardrobe and a dressing table. The bathroom has a shower cubicle and a bath. The bedroom has a large T. V, a fantastic view and a sofa which is great because normally in most b&b's, guest houses, you normally have to sit on the bed or on the floor. Everywhere was really clean, the bed was so comfortable. I have looked into booking "Causey" for Feb '19 but unfortunately it's booked up already. A very popular room. All of the staff were friendly and polite. The breakfast was hot & tasty. If you can manage to get the special offers, they are well worth it.

Just spent a long weekend here. Absolutely amazing place. The room was a good size and comfy and warm. The grub and beer were top knotch and brilliantly priced. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Really liked the fact I could order a packed lunch for the next days activities and collect it around breakfast time. Add that to being surrounded by mountains and it’s just about perfect. Thank you to all staff for such an amazing stay. We will be back.

This is an absolute gem of a place the views from the outside seating area and the bar was fantastic. We received a welcome second to none. The beers we chose we're excellent and the food was very nice. We will definitely be back again.

Arrived late for lunch after a very crowded cafe trip was aborted. They fitted two families in with no fuss. Good food, not too long a wait and a welcoming reception. Friendly staff. Middling prices. Fantastic location! A very positive experience… Thanks.

Just been for the first time in a few years and very disappointed. Decided to have the curry of the day which happened to be a fish korma. Very bland. I reckon if I had eaten my napkin it would have tasted better. Was offered a free sweet in compensation which was very good but on receiving the bill was charged for it. I believe the current landlord/landlady used to run the Farmers Arms in Portinscale which always produced consistently good pub food. Have they failed to carry that quality over to a larger establishment I wonder? Having said all this perhaps it was just an off day for the chef, the wrong meal on the wrong day?

A nice seletion of food on the menu and reasonably priced, plus a good range of ales along with the usual on tap lagers. Nothing out of the ordinary in terms of price for a family of 5. The staff were on form, attentive and well mannered and an establishment that I would definitely visit again. If you want a pub with great views, that'll quench a thirst and feed an appetite after a good walk with a easy going atmosphere, look no further.

Visited this pub a number of times over the last 25 years. It seems to follow a cycle of ups and downs, with numerous management changes. Think it is currently on a downward journey. Lake District prices. Menu lacks imagination. Food cooked to average standard. There are better pubs for food in this price range.

This is the best value for money pub I have been to in the Lake District by far. I have been visiting the lakes for over 25 years and I was very impressed! Great selection of ales and food of a very high standard. Portion sizes were generous and service was excellent even at a time busy time. I will definitely return soon. Just across the road from our room at Swinside Farm (not the same place! ). If you are at the farm, you get a 10% discount on food. The Inn has great food and one of the best selections of beer we have found at a restaurant in Britain. Don't go cause it's close, go cause it's great!

Great location and accomodation.

Avoid even if starving. While the inn looks nice, the whole experience of stopping there has been ruined by what might have been the worst customer service I have encounter in a pub. The staff is closer to be rude than just plain unhelpful. We were a bunch of walker stopping there hoping for a bit of food (there claim to Sunday roast was a plain lie) and drink and got to leave after the all debate around food escalated to unwelcome tensions. (the staff could not be even pull together the mist basic drink order, and their Cook has quiete the place. Not surprisingly) Honestly do not plan to stop there if you hope for a nice rest you are better off packing up your basic survival fois and carry on, it will spare you the managers bad mood.

Warm welcome. Great range on beers with some good hearty food. Perfect to sit inside by the open fire after a days hiking with AAA London Group in Th rain and wind.

Good Fish and Chips and a nice fire in the ~400 year old original building. Plenty more room is found in the rest of the pub where it has been more recently extended. A great base from which to go for a walk, perhaps up Catbells, and get something to eat at the pub after.
