1. It has been a long time since a quality remodel occurred. The hotel shows definite wear inside and out. 2. If there is rain in the forecast and high tide you do not want to park here. The staff will move there cars due to flooding but will not alert any guests even though they have records of who is impacted when they flood. When we were there over a dozen cars had water inside them. Others required you to walk in 10 inch deep water to rescue your car. They take no responsibility but have two shop vacs for vacuming the water from your car. A couple were towed due to water in the fuse panels. The photos are after the water receded about 6 inches.

I love this place! We have a really beautiful view of the harbour and super comfortable beds. The staff is very friendly and the free rides to historic downtown are wonderful! We had no problems getting to the beach from here. Rooms are very accomodating and the restaurant on the top is just great dining.

We chose this hotel for the location. Minutes from beach and from downtown Charleston. The hotel is dated and really needs an updated feel. Great views from all the way around this round building. Restaurant leaves much to be desired. Most staff were very friendly.

Night staff was great!. But I will have to say that the rooms are not as I thought for the price!. The floors are gross. It feels very wet in the air, don't know if it's cause we are near the water. Definitely would have chose somewhere else to stay for 5 nights If I would have experienced this sooner. I am staying till Monday so I will post another review about the services I've recieved.

May 29, 2018… This is the worst hotel ever. Called in advance to ask and make sure they had balconies. The nice lady said yes, all our rooms have them. Upon arrival the sliding glass doors to the balconies are non assessable and the pool is completely dry, has not been operational since September of 2017. But no one bothered to mention that when we called to book a reservation. The rooms look nice in the website pics, but the musky smell and sticky wetness that attaches to you after an hour in the room is overwhelming. Our clothing was damp and musty the entire stay and my socks were black from walking on the carpet, I’m certain it was mold growing in there. These rooms are not cheap and I was extremely disappointed in their lack of honest professionalism as a business. Don’t waste your money there are nicer places that cost the same! However, my husband did complain to the manager and we were given 2 free dinner tickets no alcohol included, and 3 breakfast vouchers. This was not even close to the $800.00 it cost to stay there for 3 nights. Never Again will I stay at a Holiday Inn… give me Marriott!

Great hotel. Great staff and clean comfortable room. Fabulous views. I don't understand some of the bad reviews on here. Our experience was excellent. We will make sure to return on our next trip.

Stayed memorial day weekend. Staff was very helpful. Room was clean and bed very comfortable. We will definitely be staying again next time we are in Charleston. Absolutely beautiful views both from the room and from the rooftop restaurant!

Eh. Cute hotel. Very hard to get in and out of with the traffic. Staff is super nice. Rooms are a bit small but clean. We thought the balcony would be accessible, it's not. Kind of pointless for every room to have a balcony, especially on the water, for it to be sealed. We chose the hotel for the novelty, because we drive by it often… but for the price, very 'eh'.

Great location, Great view, room was adequate — at least it was clean. ***Customer service was horrible. Ignored at the front desk, ignored by the staff at breakfast, seemed as though they just didn't care about their jobs. The bar tenders in the evening were great and saved the review from being a 1 star!

Great views from the restaurant. Great breakfast. Our room was clean but a little small. Couldn't open door to balcony for the breeze. Overall, very good.

Rooms are nice and comfy. The staff was great. The guy that checked me in noticed that it was my birthday and he and the girl beside him told me Happy Birthday Everytime they saw me. (It was cute) I told my boyfriend I was a celebrity. I did notice the place needed some minor updates but overall it was a very pleasant stay, amazing view and good food… I would definitely stay again.

Stayed here for one night and our stay was satisfactory. The front desk staff werevery friendly and informative. The staff in the restaurant were equally friendly and food for dinner and breakfast met our expectations. The room was on the smaller side, but was clean and comfortable. We were on the 12th floor and had a beautiful view of the water and the city. Hotel is in need of some remodeling and upgrading, but would stay there again.

The Staff was wonderful. The rooms were old. The bathroom had a lot to be desired. The pool wasn't filled. The shuttle to downtown was very convenient. I wouldn't not suggest this hotel. And I have stayed at many Holiday Inns.

Old and musty. Technologically, every system in this building is at least 20 years old. The police use the parking lot as a speed trap. The only thing within walking distance is a Waffle House that is straight out of a Rob Zombie movie. No balcony access. The smoking area is right next to the front door. Tiny rooms. Fitness center is very poorly maintained with only 1 working treadmill. Good coffee. Staff is kind and helpful.

I just learned my credit card info was stolen and a staff member charged over 2, 000 dollars worth of stuff to my card. I hope they enjoy whatever they got a Pep Boys ect. Evidently you can sell credit card numbers online. Mine was used in Orlando, FL. I hope the manager sees this and does a sweep of the employees at the hotel and the restaurant.

The first room we were put in had a pretty bad view of an undeveloped lot. We asked to move and got a much better view. The balconies are locked off but they're so tiny you'd probably be unable to put a chair outside anyways. The bathroom was clean and the bed was comfortable. I can't really ask for much more X D.

Hello to all guests, the hotel is very well located, with a great view of the city. The shuttle service is punctual and the tourists receive a small city tour. The bus stops at Market place. We were traveling all day today, the sun was very warm, the wind cool, and in the evening we were pampered with lots of hot tea in the restaurant: Commendable service… greetings.

Very nice, clean, comfortable, with a GREAT VIEW of downtown Charleston. Front desk assistant at night was HORRIBLE and not friendly at all (guy). When we checked out in the morning the front desk assistance was very pleasant and friendly. I would highly recommend this place to stay at.

The Holiday Inn is a hotel in which I would like to stay a maximum of transit. Riverview is true, but the hotel is located on a traffic island in the middle of the highways. Reception so Lala. Service tedious. Room bit angeschmuddelt. Not really a highlight. Pool quite okay, parking fits.

Past its Prime — obvious maintenance issues with front entrance doors and right side elevator. Also obvious this is a throwback nostalgic hotel as nearly most of the patrons were senior citizens. I stayed here because my parents honeymooned here 35 years ago. A wait staff in lounge named "Jo" (truly she was the brightest light here) said hotel built in '71. No longer are the balconies in use, you pay for breakfast, and the shower didn't drain. Meh. We will not stay here again. One & done. Should have known something was up when not greeted at check-in. Young man constantly talking off to the side to someone unseen and simply took my ID and processed us in. He did warm up after though. The room was dark and dank. The bed mattress was good although linen had strands of hair on one side. The in-room smoke detector chirped twice (as if a battery was dying) after the heat ran for four to five minutes. I immediately turned off the heat and it never chirped again. One of our lamps had a blown bulb. Room 410. It did have a view towards the harbor, but also needed the non-operational balcony glass door to be cleaned.

I stay here almost every time I come to Charleston. It's near downtown. It does have some beautiful views. I like the restaurant/bar. It is a little dated but. It's clean and convenient and affordable.

Enjoyed our stay here. Room was clean, comfortable, quiet. Views were good from our room and excellent from the restaurant and bar. Wait staff was very friendly and eager to be sure you had what you asked for but not pushy or invasive. Our maid was very sweet and accommodating. They provided shuttle service to the historic district which was so nice, and the driver's gave you mini-tours as we went back and forth. They were just wonderful. I would be happy to stay here again if I get to visit the Charleston area again.

Hotel very clean, very nice, staff was nice and helpful. The only complaint we have is we stayed night before our cruise and we paid extra for the park and cruise so we could leave our cars all week and they said we would have transportation to port. Well they don't tell you that they take you to port but you are on your own to get back to your car after your cruise. So our party of 9 had to pay 10.00 each to get a ride back to hotel. We were even staying there again that night. Disappointed.

I stay at this location on a regular basis when in Charleston. My wife and I love to go and this location allows us to stay much longer, as despite the gorgeous view, nice rooms, and helpful staff, the prices are very affordable. Especially in comparison to the places across the sound. The location is perfect for getting pretty much anywhere you want to go, and besides the free shuttle service they also have a deal with a local cab company for lower rates. The restaurant has good food and the view up there is unbeatable. It's well worth the cost of the breakfast tickets for the buffet as well. All in all this place is a great value.

When I think 5 star hotel I think big fluffy towels, staff just falling over themselves to help you, chocolates on your pillow and such. This hotel is not that. This is a basic hotel with little amenities. The best thing it had going for us was the free shuttle downtown. The room was clean, the beds a little stiff and the staff did store our luggage after we checked out so we could go explore the city more so it wasn't bad by any means. The restaurant upstairs needs an update; the decor reminds you have a senior center dining hall. Too bad since it has great views and lots of potential. Like I said, just not a 5 star experience.

Great place to stay just a few minutes from the Hospital if you have someone there. The breakfast buffet cost about $10.50 per an Adult kids 12 and under are free!. If the $10.50 is to much there is a very close waffle house up the road. The only thing I found a little annoying was the only 2 elevators for a lot of guest. I would go back here in a heart beat completely worth the price. Oh they have free coffee in the morning.

We we're assured during Irma that this location was safe no concerns fully equipped to take care of their quest. Had no future to close during Irma and was taking reservations. Upon arrival we realized they were right on the water so we asked if their only parking lot floods. We were told no that it gets water but never had flooding. Then here comes Irma. Parking lot flooded the manager made no effort to notify their quest to move their cars asap 2 of my friends who cam with us lost their vehicle and is still stranded 2 days later in SC. Power went out we were on the 6-8 floors no elevators so had to evacuate down the stairs where there were no back up lights dark stair case, and no grip strips on the staircase people were falling down everywhere including my husband. Rain pouring through sliding doors couldn't get towels. This location is in much need of upgrade in a very serious way, dirty furniture in the lobby, halls not kept up rooms not clean properly, and total lack of concern from the staff and manger, but most the safety … so under code why the fire marshal haven't closed this location. I would truly think hard and long before I would stay at this location.

You stay here for the view, not just from rooms, but the rooftop circular restaurant and bar, with music some evenings, is best view in Charleston. You also stay for the price, $90 w/out River view and $99 to $119 for Riverview. The building is an older original Holiday Inn from bygone era, a corncob round design. The rooms are clean, beds comfortable and newer mattresses, and the furnishings and outlets are ample for today's electronics, and prices are half to a third of downtown hotels, which predominantly are even older buildings, so no real upgrade in facilities, albeit if historical surroundings are your thing and you don't mind paying the steep extra price downtown. The location is right on the onset to the river's bridge into town, so a little drive is not inconvenient, and actually a sightseeing ride all the way. The rooftop restaurant is best for breakfast, under $9 for most items, and lunch, and late night fare or cocktails up to 11:30pm. Dinner is better found in Charleston, plus the view after dark is not as appealing. Rooms have a slight river-must aroma which is easily remedied by housekeeping with a carpet spray while you are out of room. The staff is capable and most available to quickly deal with questions or issues. Ownership has kept everything up to date and we'll maintained. I stayed here over twenty years ago and it's actually better now than then.

Restaurant with a great view.

I am a 100% medically disabled combat veteran who owns a service dog. Please look at the pictures below. I called the hotel and immediately got transferred to reservations (not on site) to complete the process of reserving a room. I had the reservations employee please ask the front desk if there was any patches of grass for me to walk my service animal, because that makes a big difference to me. She came back and said a "No", all there is surrounding the hotel is parking lot. Holiday inn Express is usually my favorite hotel to stay at and it was shady to me that the was nothing so I "Google mapped it" using satellite view and saw plenty of grass surrounding the property. I then called the hotel front desk directly and spoke to 'CHASTITY' and she says, "the is nothing on site, all the hotel surrounding's are paved parking for cars". This young lady lied to the reservations employee and to me! So I decided to drive there directly and see for myself since I was only a 1/2 mile out… It was full of grass! So I made the reservation from the parking lot. The young lady would not look me in the eye when confronted about the situation, not once! Not even an apology from the staff!

I stay at this place every time I go to Charleston. The prices are reasonable, the rooms are always clean and in great condition, and the staff is friendly and helpful. I only have one complaint. The hotel is called Holiday Inn RiverVIEW. Why did they decide to lock the balcony doors in each room? No longer can we step out on the balcony and take in the sea breeze and have an unobstructed view of the harbor. Since the doors are welded shut, it makes it impossible for the cleaners to clean the outside window so they are filthy. I understand the safety concerns, but please reconsider reopening those balconies for those who enjoy a good view & fresh air and let Darwin take care of the rest. Enjoyed the stay!

My husband and I stayed here over the weekend. It's is centrally placed and in a nice area but the hotel it's self is pretty run down. Some of the staff was very courteous and helpful while other treated us as though we were just bothersome and in the way. The rooms are ok at best and always felt damp. Saturday morning house keeping came through and we asked for more clean towels, 5 hours later and two visits to the service desk we finally got towels but asked that we reuse them. The second biggest issue was the first night we arrived we were sitting by the pool, not swimming, just enjoying the nice breeze when an employee came out and asked us to leave and that if we did not do so the cops would be called. We had never been previously asked and didn't make a fuss, going to the extent to threaten us with the police was a bit much! The restaurant was very nice and the staff was great! I would advice going a little further into Mt. Pleasant and staying at a holiday inn express. Much cheaper and much nicer!

Best view in Charleston with AC. We had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding here which was fantastic. We were surprised how great the food was… and of course the view is always amazing. Whenever we come here we get Jo as our server and she is great. We are local and this bar is totally overlooked for how great it is! If you are visiting the area, come here for the view! Love it!

The hotel overall was good. It definitely is an older hotel and you can hear every noise on the floor. First day the breakfast buffet was very good. On the second day it was a disappointment. They did not charge us and addressed our issues as best they could. The staff is great and extremely helpful. Our room had a great view, but at night one of the outside lights was pointed directly into our room on the 5th floor. Even with the curtain closed we had no trouble seeing with the lights off! I feel the price exceeded the quality of the hotel.

This place is a perfect location, considering how much money you save. They have a contract with a cab company for $5/person to anywhere dwtn, which is only about a 4 minute drive. The staff was very nice and helpful, and they even greeted us with a welcome anniversary card. The pool and restaurant have a beautiful view of the Ashley River. We will go back!

The breakfast in the morning was fantastic because of the wide variety of fruits, breads, meats, and cereal! The view was stunning! The rooms were clean, and the pillows were very soft. I even had a choice between firm and soft pillows!

We loved everything about the hotel and how kind the staff was. Only downside was locked balcony access and the pool wasn't opened until the day we are leaving (today). Other than that, it has been great. Had free trolley service to downtown as well.

Clean enough. Comfortable beds. A little dated but not terribly so. Not a great view. The staff was nice. Pretty close to downtown.

They should mention the waterfront view is through a bolted glass door. Hotel's description of the room is very deceiving. The staff was awful, I called to ask for two glasses. I then was put on hold for 10 minutes to be redirected to their restaurant, which they never even answered. After waiting so long the call went back to the front desk, who told me to me just walk to the restaurant and ask myself. Awful experience FIRST AND LAST time coming here.

Did not like the front desk staff at all… they were not helpful at all. Rude as a matter of fact… the room is very rundown… the bed is uncomfortable. … 2 light bulbs were out… did not like the toilet and bath closed off from the sink… no privacy. … no fresh air in the room… sliding door was bolted shut… TV is small… fridge was unplugged. I rated this very poorly.

Old property, but that's kindof the idea… If you want a newly furnished room, give this place a miss. If you want a sweet view, a cool top level restaurant, and a truly odd swimming pool and deck that's really fun at night, then it's the spot.

Had a great time. Pool was very clean and nice. Restaurant was clean, beautiful views, excellent foods, prices avg, hostess very friendly. Hotel employees very friendly. Room was clean and up to date. I would highly recommend this hotel however not as kid friendly as some other hotels.

This Cylinder Holiday Inn Charleston South Carolina is a Beautiful Hotel! Here are my reasons for 4 stars: Lobby is a bit small! Rooms look wired (because hotel is a circle) but it looks cool at the same time! Rooms are Nice & Clean! Very Unique Hotel! Bathrooms are a bit small but clean! Pool is AMAZING! If you are staying near Downtown Charleston, James Island or Folly Beach (like me) BOOK THIS HOTEL!

It would be helpful if the Hotel would be contacted with Riverview and not only as the Restaurant is called (Harborview).
