It’s a very well maintained place. The place is clean and the employees are very helpful. I suppose they’re clean too.

Absolutely the WORST customer care for a rewards member we have ever received. Due to an emergency with an infant we were not able to get to the hotel & we canceled the night before, and they showed no remorse and still 30 days later refusing to assist us. No compassion for our family. Complete disrespectful. We had requested cancellation but they did not give us our points back. Along with that they have given us the run around to call here there or everywhere, refusing to help us. DO NOT use rewards points or except any compassion. As a mother in these times I would NEVER ever treat another human or family the way they have, Julie even was no help pretty much giving us the go around and unwilling to care for us. Stay away. This is not the way Marriott treats it’s guest (I hope)

Hotel was very clean and staff very friendly. Hotel is a 5 minute Uber to historic district.

My husband and I had a very relaxing evening but I wished they served breakfast longer than 10:30 am, but overall a very nice experience.

Dirty room with unchanged bedsheets. A/c didn’t work properly. Tiny bathroom. Noisy room with uncomfortable bed. Unhelpful and insensitive front desk staff. Manager now refusing to return my phone calls. I could go on and on. My anniversary was ruined by my experience.

We only visited the Safire restaurant! Our food was delicious and the bartender very attentive!

Beautiful location, beautiful rooms and amenities. Staff was also great. If you plan on visiting during the pandemic be prepared to wear a mask in public areas inside of the hotel. We had an unfortunate experience with another patron harassing us for wearing our masks. We reported it to the front desk and they handled it promptly and appropriately. Thank you, Marriott staff for making sure everything is clean and all your guests are taken care of! ❤️

We spent out wedding weekend here. The hotel is gorgeous! Great location and everything was clean! The only thing that needs alittle help is more smiling employees. They don’t seem very happy. But I will definitely return to this hotel if I am back in the area.

Feels very sanitary immediately upon entering, was greeted by a very personable front desk employee, room was ready early, and room feels very clean!

Made reservations for a suite with national reservations Arrived at hotel was told that reservation was for regular room. No notes for a suite. No suite available. Called national reservations they said no notes. Spoke with supervisor nothing they could do. Asked why rate was higher than regular room they reduced rate to regular room
Then offered to give me a suite for $200 more than agreed on the first time. What a bunch of crooks. There is a suite now? No parking was available told me to continue to drive around they have a big party booked? I hate that Westin merged with them. No Customer service at all! Stay somewhere else if you can!

My husband and I are gold members And I never have had a worse experience than this. The rooms were dated, they were painting on the 2nd floor and they didn’t even have the courtesy to tell the guests. It smelled so bad. We were on the 3rd floor and it smelled like mold. Our air conditioning unit was so loud and smelled too. Our room was never even vacuumed the first day we were here. The towels smelled too. When I addressed these issues with the front desk, all they had to say was “we will note that in your account” Marriott needs to stop making their lobby’s look great and make the rooms better. I will never stay here again.

This is the only place we come to Charleston. It’s a great hotel and customer oriented.

The Hotel is absolutely Amazing! It is well maintained and very clean. Great atmosphere exceptional customer service by every staff member I encountered … The Aqua roof top bar is great! I definitely recommend staying here if you’re in town.

Be careful! Thieves target the rear parking lot, which is very dark and not monitored. My car was ransacked and some things were stolen on Thursday, April 11. We realized in retrospect that there was a spotter sitting in the lot watching guests. This is one block from the police department, but no one watches this lot and there is no security. The staff and police could not have been less concerned.

Aweful service. Messed up our keys multiple times over a one week stay. When I began to vent my frustrations, Kevin threatened to call the police on me. Rooms are clean and location is convenient so I can’t give it one star. But I’m moving to another hotel. I won’t be staying here again. I guess this 4 Star Marriott is like a 5 star Ritz, but with mediocre decor and abysmal service. I’ve had better service at 2 star hotels.

This was one of the worse experiences I had at a Marriott. As a platinum elite member, I stay at quite a few in many different cities and this was my first time here. Bumpy checkin, unclean hotel, quite simple facility. I checked in via mobile and requested a blanket for our toddler. I called to make sure we have a pack n play in the room Upon checkin, nothing was in their system. I had to ask, again, for the pack n play and additional items I already requested. Went to the room and it smelled horrible. We transferred to a new room that had stains all over the bedding and the floor. I also just found a lot of hair in the shower. The rooms were rather filthy. The check in process was bad. They haven't paid attention to details. The good thing I'll give them is that the receptionists always tried to attend and resolve the issues. The cleaning crew was responsive and courteous to addressing any needs. Also, breakfast waiters and food was good. Thanks for welcoming us, however, and I hope this feedback helps to improve the cleanliness and service to all detail.

Very pleasant stay. The restaurants located on site were decent. The staff was very helpful with any requests I had. The rates are a bit high. For the money, I would recommend staying in a more upscale hotel located in the historic district.

Classic Marriott. Comfortable, clean, good amenities, excellent restaurants and food service, for a price. Older hotel and beggining to show it's age, but still high quality accommodations. Excellent staff from front desk to house keeping to restroom attendant.

Visiting the States from Sydney AU my husband and I were made to feel so welcome by the hospitality shown by the staff at Charleston Marriott. The room was comfortable and clean with a good shower. But the real reason I'm writing this review and providing 5 stars is because of the bartender named Karen who's Old Fashions and Bloody Marys were literally the BEST I have drank anywhere in the world. This lady is a dab hand with mixing cocktails but also provides good banter as well making us feel welcome and at ease. When I finally win the lotto I'm hiring Karen and flying her to Sydney to tend the bar at my winner party so watch out Charelston Marriott!

Very nice hotel. I’ve stayed here twice and have enjoyed both stays. The front desk is staffed with kind and helpful staff. There is a nice wine bar, restaurant, and coffee bar. The pool area is nice and is well appointed for lounging and relaxing. The rooms are clean, well appointed, and very comfortable. On my last stay I was upgraded to a suite with a kitchenette. If you’re staying for any length of time, I’d highly recommend this style room for comfort and convenience.

Came in by boat, docked, walked right across the street to the hotel. Checked in and was in the pool within 15 minutes. After that, our group ate dinner, had cocktails, and played Cards For Humanity for hours. To bed, the bed was so very comfortable. Breakfast downstairs was fabulous. We got home a lil while ago and we are planning the next river trip, and we will be staying at the Marriott! I would give 6 stars if possible!

There is so much detail that needs to go into this review but space is limited so let me just say… the hotel is gorgeous… I just wish our stay had reflected that. I had problems making the reservation to begin with because the reservation department does not have all the information about making a reservation. And even after getting to the hotel we were constantly ignored by the bartender (Karen) and the manager, and the dinner time server Pavel. I feel like we were judged by how we were dressed. It was a rare weekend off for me and we were walking around Charleston all day so we were relaxing. They only paid attention to the people that LOOKED like they had money. Too bad for them… I do have money even though I may not dress that way, and they lost out on good tips for judging a book by its cover. The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because the guy that checked us in was great and very helpful. And our breakfast server LaShawn was amazing and took great care of us, and DID NOT judge us by how we were dressed. I work at a 4 diamond resort and the standards for customer service at this hotel fall WAY below ours, so I can see why it is not a 4 diamond hotel nor will it ever be if they continue to treat guests this way.

Since their renovations several years ago, the Charleston Marriott has become one of my favorite venues! As a full-time professional event photographer in Charleston, I have the opportunity to attend a lot of events at various hotels. THIS is one of my favorites! The event spaces are clean and modern, the staff is fun and friendly, and the best part is… free parking! :-) If you're holding your conference, sales meeting, trade show, awards banquet, or other event here… we'd love to be your photographer!

You can get pretty much anything you want, if you purchase it. Toiletries are available in the gift shop. There is a shuttle downtown for a mere 6 bucks (and you'll want to take it to see Fort Sumter and dine downtown). The newspaper, though, is complimentary. Clean rooms, nice size pool. Music in the rooftop lounge on the third floor on the weekends sometimes.

I had a very pleasant stay here. The room was comfy, and the amenities were a nice bonus, with a lounge serving snacks in addition to a breakfast with hot eggs, bacon and oatmeal. Giving four stars because some of the table surfaces in the room didn't feel as clean as they could be, but overall I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Beautiful place! Beautiful Court yard and pool. The lobby is very inviting and cozy. It just invites you to longer in one of the many couches and have a great read! The restaurant is nice and the bar though small and in the restaurant is airy and inviting. I believe there is a rooftop bar as well if I remember correctly. That was really nice!

Beautiful lobby… nice bar (both rooftop and inside). Delicious and healthy food options in restaurant. Rooms are a little small but beds super comfortable! Staff nice and informative. A short Uber ride away from downtown if you are not walkers like my husband and I… enjoyed the stay!

Needs updating, but the view is tremendous and the people are very nice. The van goes to the historic area, which is amazing. The view from the Penthouse level shows all the water around the peninsula. Currently, there's a lot of construction going on, so you might find it annoying or entertaining. The "Rooftop" bar is on the third floor, but has great views of the water and the construction is on the other side so the hotel shields the noise. Nice pool and fitness center. Popcorn ceilings in the rooms and the age of the carpet cost one star, but the bed is comfortable. Interestingly, they have the new proximity keys, but they don't let you use your phone. :-/

I would have given a 4 1/2 star but that was not an option. The hotel was nice and clean. Everything was great with the exception of their mobile check in and request. I attempted check in using the mobile app and it didn't work. Also, when I requested some items via the mobile chat and there was a delay with staff. I called the assistance line and no one picked up. I ended up stopping staff in the hall to get the items. Everything was great outside of the technology issues and no phone response.

We arrived at 1AM and the check in was easy and excellent. To our surprise the next morning; the bath room had hair everywhere, the refrigerator was dirty and the room was small. We had to let the water run for 10min for the shower to get hot, and flush the toilet 3 times to get things cleared. The staff truly make this hotel great because they provide the best service.

I found every aspect of my stay outstanding. I was traveling by myself, but because of the staff, I never felt alone. The front desk acknowledged me by name every time I passed through the lobby and always asked if they could do anything for me. The decor is bright and upscale. The bar and restaurant created a welcoming vibe. My room was immaculate and comfy. The concierge floor is the way to go. The private lounge is a big plus. I will stay here every time I'm back in Charleston.

Expected better services from a Marriott. Shower door was barely usable and very old (needs to be replaced). The internet used for streaming was down and the front desk said it wasn’t their fault, and didn’t attempt to resolve the issue at all. Update: on the last day I stayed there the AC stopped working. Decided to lower my rating to a 1 Star.

Gorgeous on the inside, ugly on the outside. But it's what on the inside that counts, right? I was photographing a wedding party here so we were in the penthouse. I'd say it's a pretty decent view from the top floor, but nothing jaw dropping. Still a gorgeous place, and I still highly recommend.

Wife had a headache… they let us check-in early (2pm). Points for that. Parking was great (non-peak season) and price was great for a standard room. Room was immaculate and the bed and pillows were quite comfortable. Really liked the orange-smelling shampoo and body wash. Convenient location to downtown. Would stay here again.

Great location. Easy ride down to the fun parts of town and the staff was outstanding. Great amenities and good bar also.

Went there for a holiday party for my husband's work, the banquet hall is just beautiful. The staff was wonderful and food was excellent. It's the perfect venue for a big event.

Fine, established hotel near the harbor. Southern gentility abounds from the front desk, maids, support staff, bars and restaurants. Although there was much heavy construction nearby, noise didn't start until about 7 am. Breakfast in the Concierge Suite for frequent Marriott travelers was disappointing as it featured "rubbery, " overcooked scrambled eggs. Although the hotel is older, it was in reasonably good repair although the deadbolt on my room's door was broken. The lobby areas are comparatively grand, underscoring the near opulent aura of the hotel. Net: This is worth the stay.

I was here for a conference and was delighted with the remodeled lobby, the food and beverages supplied for the conference and the comfort of the public spaces. The rooftop lounge overlooking the Ashley River was a real surprise to me. I didn't know it was there and it was a wonderful place to enjoy the sunset and talk with other conference goers.

This is a very nice hotel. They've got music on their rooftop bar, the breakfast is good and the staff are friendly and helpful. Our room was very comfortable — the beds here are great.

My husbands birthday, and the eclipse we're the same day. The staff were all very nice, and helpful. The rooms were nice, however no microwave in the room. Our shower door was off track, and they're engenier guy was on top of it. He was also very friendly, helpful, gave us suggestions on what to do during our stay. We would definitely consider coming back again!

Hot tub didn't work. The hotel is a little to far away to walk to anything. They do have a shuttle for $6 that I would suggest. Rooms are nice but old and outdated. It does have a restaurant and 2 bars. Pool had so many kids in it my wife and I didn't even get in, so we decided to get in the "hot" tub. It was freezing cold so I went into the front desk and told them they said someone would be out to look at it. No one ever came and some people we talked to said they had said something everyday for the past 3 days and it was still broken. They did let us have an early check in.

Very clean room. Lobby looks amazing. Nice views from the rooftop bar but it's a little small. The in hotel restaurant is good too, nothing amazing but good for wanting something late night. Only complaint is the walls seemed kinda thin. People next to us had a sick kid and the walls did not dampen the crying or coughing.

I actually did not stay here but was invited to have lunch with my friend who was staying. I must say the decor inside is beautiful and very spacious everywhere. Anyway we ate at there dining area and the food was delicious. The seating arrangements were comfortable and are waiter was very polite. I would definitely go back just for the food.

Everything thing was nice and clean, except bathroom. When talking to friends they also said bathrooms are small and dirty. Everyone mentioned the pink and black mold in their shower. The rest is fine. Patio is clean. Restaurant is good. Price for breakfast is high. Meeting rooms are nice. Parking was easy and plentiful.

Overall property is very nice. Front desk staff not knowledgeable about Marriott programs (I'm platinum elite) and not very competent… for example, I checked in for 2 nights and the second evening when I got to my room on the 11th floor my keys had expired. I had to go all the way back down to the desk. I complained and they just kinda laughed. Not professional at all.
Also, they used to have grits for breakfast in the concierge lounge. They do not anymore and the breakfast may as well have been at a Holiday Inn Express. Concierge lounge food is awful. The view is the only thing worthwhile.

I have to say that the staff at the Charleston Marriott was one of the friendliest and efficient group of people I have come across. I checked in using the Marriott mobile app and Keith (I think that was his name) was extremely helpful explaining the free self-parking, use of Wi-Fi and how the Concierge could help us with restaurant selection. Our room-2 queen beds — was large enough for my husband, my teenage grandson and myself. The air conditioning did not cool the room enough. We had an issue with the toilet that was resolved quickly. We ate lunch in the Saffire restaurant within the hotel. Lashawn, our server, was vivacious and very efficient. The deviled eggs were delicious. My grandson had the sharable cheese platter and my husband and I each tried the flatbreads which we enjoyed. As a gold elite member we were able to visit the Concierge Lounge on the Penthouse Floor for complimentary evening hors d'oeuvres and morning breakfast. I highly recommend the Charleston Marriott.

Beautifully decorated hotel with a restaurant. There's also a "roof top" bar that's open into night. Tiny gift shop has snacks for when you get munchies at any time. My room was comfortable but smaller than expected. Bathroom was very small too. Otherwise overall good quality and great service as expected from Marriott.

Front desk staff were not friendly. This Marriott was the first Marriott hotel that we have ever experienced poor customer service. We booked two rooms for 3 adults and 1 kid. The rooms were nice but the staffs were awful. They even came to one of our room early in the morning (9 am around) on the day that we plan to check out, to change one of the light bulbs. Couldn't they just wait a bit longer? I was debating to book a hotel reservation between this Marriott hotel and other hotel and I have regretted my choice during the whole trip.

Stayed there this past weekend. The hotel is a bit dated but overall in good condition. The plus is that it has a "resort" feel with pool and roof top bar and some nice open areas around the hotel. It is located next to a great waterfront park! Now for a few negatives. The water pressure is a bit low so makes showers less enjoyable — not a big deal. Service can be spotty. We sat at a table in the outdoor cafe and waited 20 minutes before someone approached and bussed the table from last seating. Did go to front desk and complain. A waitress finally appeared but spoke very little english and did not understand the breakfast menu. Food took too long to come from kitchen (the place was not very busy so hard to understand why? ) and given the poor service above felt very overpriced. Hope management will see comments and improve to make this a 5 star review for future travelers.

Property is ok but below average. Rude and dishonest staff on a regular basis when dealing with them, don't expect to get things that they promise you. You can do better for the money downtown.

Great location, front staff was excellent. Bathroom was very small and could be cleaned more by housekeeping a little dirty. Shower was broken got stuck in it for about 10 mins before I was let out. Catering staff was rude and not friendly at all. The rudest person was Sandy, she need to be behind the scene. She made guess feel very uncomfortable. There was one server that was very nice and I forgot her name bit she should definitely be the supervisor of that team. Other than that I really enjoyed myself.

Very clean hotel, beautiful view, close enough to all of the beautiful things in Charleston but far enough away to be quiet and easy to access.

We just had our first weekend away since becoming parents of five. We were so looking forward to sleeping in past 7am, but couldn't due to roof construction going on in our room at the crack of dawn every morning. There was one very tiny trash can in the room which was odd. The hotel itself has no vending machines, charges $5.80 for a bottle of water at their "Starbucks" and $3 for a bagel! Overall, it was a nice hotel but the construction and overpriced amentities were a bust.

Great staff, great beds and rooms. They have the USB ports in lamps for easy charging. The only bummer is no free Wi-Fi.

Location was great. Relatively close to downtown. Great service and quality. Clean rooms. Two bed room was a decent price for the location. Around $500 for 2 nights.

This hotel is fantastic… service is great and the rooms clean. We really enjoy staying here when we visit our son at The Citadel. Special shout-out to Richard McMillan who helped us last time… thanks Richard! Hope to see you again soon.

The room itself was nice however my iPad was stolen and not returned. Instead of staff calling me back to inform me of any update I had to call repeatedly. Incredibly disappointed and frustrated.

I don't normally write reviews, but I felt this one was warranted. The place in general was fine, not the cleanest place, not the dirtiest place. What made this stay not so good was all the noise at 3am. This seems like the type of hotel where large groups get together and stay up all night. If you want to get some rest, I wouldn't recommend it. We also have a unrecognized charge on our credit card for the Aqua Bar that we didn't visit. Now we have to spend time calling the hotel to get this resolved. They can't handle this request on the weekend, so we have to call back on Monday! Fun!

The food service staff are wonderful and very hard workers. They really paid attention to our needs. Thank you. However, the guest rooms are in serious need of an over-haul. There was mold and mildew in the bathrooms, the wall paper was off in some areas, the electrical outlets in my room were no longer attached to the drywall. To the staff's credit, they were able to move some of the guests to better rooms but they should not be having these type problems in the first place. The carpets in both the guest rooms and in the convention space were stained and in need of replacement. In the meeting rooms, the noise levels from other groups was so loud that we could not even have discussions around the tables. This went on for 2 days. Bad planning on the convention side to have such loud, noisy inconsiderate groups in the same areas as smaller group meetings. I understand that a renovation is currently taking place. I truly hope that they can turn this "old-feel" hotel around.

Just called to book a room and was told "two night minimum" on the 4th. Being a rewards member does not offer any benefit. Don't recommend them.

My business colleague and I recently attended a conference in Charleston S. C. The conference was located at the Marriott Charleston S. C. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, the staff was excellent! We were especially impressed with "Matthew" (check in/out)! His customer service was superb! He recommended local restaurants, which were excellent. He went above and beyond to make our stay even more enjoyable. The rooms were impeccably clean and inviting. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate to enjoy some of the extra amenities the hotel offers (Aqua Terrace and outdoor courtyard). I would love to visit again with my husband for vacation! Hopefully, returning to the Charleston Marriott. Thank you! Keep up the excellent work.

I was there for a conference this past weekend. Complete disappointment. Lunch served Friday was not edible — Vegetable Lasagna that had noodles that could bounce and/or break your teeth. There were about 300 of us for lunch and only 8 or 9 servers for the entire room. The hall on the 4th floor smelled like feces. Saturday we had the lunch buffet in the hotel restaurant — Saffire. Another disappointment the baked Ziti had a sauce on it that had the flavor and consistency of a sloppy joe, the bowtie pasta with alfredo sauce had absolutely no flavor. The highlight of lunch was the salad and potato soup. Dinner Saturday night was the same poor service as lunch on Friday. If you are a group event looking for a location — I would not recommend using this hotel. There are other great hotels in the Charleston area that offer quality food and a service oriented atmosphere.

Not a good choice. There are superior, cheaper, far more benefit-laden hotels in the area. After staying at marriots for the past two years for all my travel, this is my last straw. Another property with paper-thin walls, pay Wi-Fi, questionable temp controls, and a staff that treats you like a number. The lobby and courtyards are lovely, but that doesn't make up for bad rooms. Recommend the downtown hotels, where they offer many perks and have class.
