We only stopped here for one night on our road trip. It was easy to find. The staff was not very polite when we arrived. The room was clean but the bathrooms could use some better cleaning. Felt a bit creepy at night.

The rooms were clean and satisfying. The breakfast, although not hot, was incredible. I had one of the best whole fresh peaches ive ever had in my life. The owner is very friendly and shared a few priceless stories with us. I would certainly stay here again. On top of this, the pricing was incredibly reasonable.

I stayed here with my fiancé over night and we absolutely loved this place. The staff was very friendly, the rooms are well kept, and I would definitely recommend this place to all of my family and friends. We had a wonderful experience while staying there. The price was good too! For 2 adults with 1 big bed was about $62 for 1 night :)

Third world country dirty. Truly festering. I've read the other reviews and I am stunned. Either they rented a completely different set of rooms or there is a parallel universe that meets ours in NC. It is evident from the other reviews many of the reviewers on here have been paid for their glowing recommendations.

Inexpensive and cool in a vintage way. The pool worked out for the kids, and the fridge kept my beer cold. I love the throwback neon signs. There is Wi-Fi. The room itself is otherwise outdated and bare bones. It also cost 75% less than the hipster options downtown and also has some character. Also, there is a remarkably good camera system on the grounds for security so I was left with some sense of safety.

Prepaid room. Called early to tell them we would be in very late… guy said "no problem". When we arrive the lobby is locked, no one answers the bell or the phone. Place looks sketchy as hell. Pool is drained. Random people wandering the grounds. Crooks. Stay away.

Five minutes from everything. Great place to drop your luggage and set off from to explore the city. Rooms were clean and quiet.

This place is centrally located to everything you could want to do. Super cozy especially considering it was built in 1933! The staff is super friendly and the continental breakfast is by far better than any big chains we've satyef out, plus they offer a military discount. Will stay here every time we're this way.

I love this place. They have the best staff there as long as you check in during the week. If its a week end, then you get Eddie. Not very nice, bad personality and someone I would never recommend running any front desk especially if you are a female. I will have to find another favorite as I will not go back there as long as Eddie works there.

The Mountaineer needs to not exist anymore. My room was disgusting. I'm pretty sure housekeeping hadn't done anything to my room in quite a while. I pulled back my sheets, only to find blood spots on the sheets. Upon entering the bathroom, there was blood on the tub and the back of the door. Body hair all over the bathroom floor. When I checked out in the morning, the maid was sitting outside smoking… I guess we see how hard she cleans. I informed the lady at the counter upon checkout and she didn't care at all and told me "I have no idea what you're talking about". On the plus side, it was only $55. This place would be great if the owner/managers cared at all and did some repair and maintenance.

Friendly service. Great clean rooms. Awesome gardens. Near everything. Even the heat lamps in the washroom work.

If your looking for the mountain feel with your stay this is the place amazing customer service. The room is not upgraded but it gives it that real touch, almost like being in a cabin on the mountain. Breakfast was perfect along the the coffee and it's beautiful to wake up and see the mountains. This is where I'm going when I go back to visit. It's affordable as well. ☺️

Honestly… for the price and location this a great place. I really enjoyed my stay. The staff is friendly and the place is pretty clean. I will definitely be staying here more often when I visit.

The inn was nice. It's on a hill so be wary during icy weather. The room was nice although you have no control over heating and air (we were nice and toasty) on a very freezing evening) and the hot water is not always around in the shower. The breakfast was basic but nice and welcome. The bed was comfortable and the people were extremely friendly. We'll definitely consider it next time we need a room in Asheville.

We stayed for a few days at Mountaineer inn. One somewhat alarming thing initially is that you don't have an individual thermostat in your room, but our room stayed a perfect temperature despite it being the coldest new year on record. The bed was okay, the TV was good. We never ate the complimentary breakfast, but that looked good too. The shower stayed very warm during every use. My only real complaint is how thin the walls are, but I realise it's hard to do anything about that now. All in all, Mountaineer inn is definitely worth it's price.

I really enjoyed my stay here. If you don't need to be pampered at every corner, this if a great choice. The staff is friendly, location is good, and can't beat the price. Will definitely stay there again.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Yes we saw a lot of the reviews where people were complaining how dated it was. But that one reason we picked it. We wanted that charm. The room was very clean. PInk tile in the bathroom. Yes we had no control on the heat in the room. Its controlled from the office. One thermostat controls half of the motel anther for the other half. We planned for this we traveled with a small space heather with us in case it was an issue. We loved the stay here. Would have been nice to have had a microwave in the room. Wifi reception was very weak. But not an issue since we have unlimited data on our cells.

The bedroom was tidy, restroom clean and reservation includes decent free breakfast. Would suggest to anyone on a budget and not necessarily looking for something flashy. The place looked to be a local family owned business and people were friendly.

I enjoyed my stay… I would come back… Their breakfast is pretty basic. But aside from that big rooms and fridge, microwave, ironing board and tons to do around it. Great for a cheaper motel to stay in!

Checked in, and checked out less than 3 hours later. “Clean” is not a vibe I got. But the ultimate reason for leaving is that you have no control over the air in your your room. The thermostat is in the office and controls sections of the motel. I have never been to a place where you cannot control the temperature of your room.

Not sure where the positive reviews come from… Stayed here in a King room. This is a very dated motel. Here are the pros and cons. PROS: Relatively clean, nice water pressure in shower, Wi-Fi pretty good, low rate. CONS: Horrible check in, unbelievably drafty room (especially in the bathroom), no temp control in room (none! ), extremely dated, no hair dryer, remote doesn't work, paper thin walls, the smallest shower I have ever used (not exaggerating! ), bed not comfy and they still use keys! This place really needs an update! 2 stars is the most I can give.

Fantastic service! Room was very clean and well stocked and parking was ample! Perfect location for tourists and in a beautiful area. In fact they are nice enough to be sending my wallet to me that I had left in my room, now that is awesome! Mountaineer inn was fantastic!

Staff was very friendly, owner is 94 years old and a great host. Hotel has a lot of character and clean comfy beds. I will stay here again.

While it is an older inn it is very clean and well kept. The front desk staff are welcoming and friendly. It is fairly close to dining and shopping.

Great place to stay. They are friendly not only with the inn but will help you with places to go to shop and eat. The rooms are great. Very home like and just down to earth, we will always be staying here from now on. My kids loved it and the inn was great with my kids. Breakfast was good and was on till 11am.

My sister booked this place for a family vacation because it had a pool. Little did we know that the pool has been closed for some time because they had lost their maintenance person. The room temp is controlled by a thermostat in the office. How ridiculous is that? There was a partially used tube of Orajel on the dusty TV stand, the toilet runs every few minutes, the carpet is stained. The was paint spatter from two different coats in the bathroom on the toilet, walls and light fixtured. The door isn't sealed and allows small to medium sized bugs in to the room. There is a switch by the bed that does nothing. Though, it might have turned on the wall light that didn't work. If you need a dirt cheap place to stay, have at it. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

Though we did shove our towels under the door for less "ambiance" and we stayed kinda cold the whole time. The staff appeared very genuine and caring and didn't pretend that this was a 5 star establishment. Ultimately, we thought it should be a bit cheaper.

A Gem of North Carolina! This place has so much character and charm… and charm is not synonymous for run down… Its like stepping back in time when being original and unique was noteworthy not ironic. While I was floating in the pool I saw a hipster (he was not a guest, he was actually dropped off be an UBER! ) taking photos of the place… act fast before its in trendy blog… ehh!

Read a few reviews keeping in mind most reviews are negative experiences mostly. After deciding a impromptu trip to Asheville was needed, budget lodging was immediately looked for. One thing I'll say is don't listen to the bad reviews. I can't say anything for the other rooms, but our room was not only spacious, but clean and modern. Yeah the TV was old. And the shower was green but other than that I liked the room for the low price we paid. Pretty out of the way of downtown, however on one of the main roads and next door to many restaurants. Owners at front office were so friendly. I've been to at least 40 hotels in my day and these guys were super professional and welcoming. Will 100% come back here. 1 negative is the parking lot. Pain to get in and out of.

Overall it was pretty good for $63 a night. Fairly clean, showerwas tiny, no bugs or fleas despite allowing pets, free breakfast, convenient location right off the freeway between mall and downtown. I think I may be allergic to whatever detergent that they use to wash their sheets because I woke up with a rash, but it dissipated by the end of the day. Be careful if you have sensitive skin.

It's interesting. It's pretty. The crowd was more biker type when I picked up my grandparents very briefly. Got to go inside as well. It looks like a cheap motel that was renovated to look like a cabin. It's cute and seems comfortable. Good view and good part of the street.

Just left after 2 nights stay. I've stayed in quite a few motels in my day. Some high end, and some not so much. However, my stay at the Mountaineer was very pleasant. Beds were VERY comfortable, and the accomodations were more than satisfactory. The staff were very nice and cordial. Would RECOMMEND to anyone wanting a relaxing stay. Easy to get to anywhere from their location as well.

If you want to stay in a brand new swanky hotel, go pay 3 times as much to sleep for 8 hours. Not me. I like the vintage feel and I really like the price. This place is cool and classic with mid century modern architecture and walking distance to a ton of restaurants. Very close to amazing down town asheville (less than 5 minutes and even walkable or bikable if you want). Hotels are outrageous in this city and they are outrageous because people pay it. I was thrilled to stay at this cool little spot for a fair price. The staff was nice and the owner was awesome. Great coffee. Clean room and I slept like a baby. Thanks! I'll be back!

Very nice stay. Older motel. But no stale smells. All was well with our room, location, or parking. The pool was wonderful. Would stay there again next time.

As we passed the Inn I was practically tugging on my husbands arm to stay here. I thought the place looked so original & cute from the outside. We paid for the room, opened the door, didn't even make it in before me and my husband both were like "Oh hell no! ". I photograph abandoned buildings & houses for a living — and this room smelled worse than any abandoned house I've been in. Totally disgusting.

Rude employees, terrible service, and a dirty room. We reserved a room weeks in advance over the phone for 2 nights. At check-in, management realized employee had made a mistake and quoted me for only 1 night. Prices had gone up in the meantime and they asked me to pay an exorbitant amount for the extra night. When I asked for a lower, more reasonable rate that my coworker was already paying, they angrily threatened to kick us out and cancel the reservation all together with no other alternatives. We'll never go back!

I had an awesome stay at the Mountaineer Inn! My wife and I arrived in town and were quickly checked in and directed to our room. The staff was pleasant and friendly and were available at all hours to assist us with anything we needed. The room was clean and had a really good cable package. The inn is located close to shopping areas and several restaurants and has easy access to the interstate! Plus they offer a great continental breakfast in the morning all the way until check out time! Convenience… check Value… check Friendly Staff… check Cleanliness… check Returning… check.

CHECK OUT THE NEON SINES! Ask your self who do those people remind you of. Pappy, Mammy Yoakum, Jeth Row, Crocket, Jeb Moon shiners Popcorn, Elmira, Jed, He-haw Eurasia overalls you might be a redneck, o brother ware out thaw Beverly hill belly's, Deliverance. Ware did those come from ware did they go hillbilly cartoons. Applainchen moutains. One door opens anther doors closes in hotels business swimming hole too. Meet a lot of people many different places famous ones to, try to keep up with the traffic and remodeling pace is very fast lane CHECK OUT THE GLOWING HILLBILLYS ON THE RUFE LOL :) (BE HAPPY)

Worst motel I've ever stayed at. I only stayed here because it's spring break and everything else near downtown Ashville was booked up. The heater doesn't work and it's 38 degrees, I complained and all they did was hand me a little space heater. The room was used prior to me stepping foot in the room. GROSS! I found urine in the toilet, no toilet paper, used towels on the floor and food crumbs on the bed. Never again.

This place is awesome! Friendly locals gave me apples, the rooms are large, beds are clean and style is 100% legit. Cannot be beat for the money!

The most comfortable place we have stayed in. People are very nice and clean place. We come every month to visit my mom due to her health. We love it there. Wouldn't go any where else. Can bring your pets also. There the greatess people ever. Make sure you feel welcome there. Like having a second family.

Very old fashioned hotel with lots of charm. The GM was very friendly and professional. Certainly not a chain hotel but that's what I like about it here. Will be back!

The property is perfect for those looking to immerse themselves in the southern Appalachian charm of the region. The hotel staff was very friend and the rooms very clean. It was the first hotel I had been to in a long while that gave you actual keys! It may not be the most updated or fancy place to stay, but if your planning on spending time in the great national forests near Asheville, the Mountaineer Inn is the perfect place to rest between explorations.

No mistaking it, this is an old motel. Built in 1939, many aspects of it seem not to have changed, but that's its charm. If you grew up long ago, before hotel chains, you remember places like this in every town. You never knew what to expect inside, except that they all had a similar smell and "just washed" pristine feel to them. Not the Mountaineer. From reading reviews, I get the sense that different parts of the motel are of different age, with different amenities, and even different linens. I stayed in the oldest part, within a few doors from the office. My only real complaints were the stained linens that I could not tell whether they were clean but stained, or just not clean. I finally decided to take a chance and just sleep in them, and I awoke the next day feeling fine. Closer inspection when I was not tired revealed they were just stained, but still essentially clean. The shower was another story. I probably could have gotten used to it if it had been well-lighted, but working lights were few. Non-working lights outnumbered the working lights in my room. I repaired a lamp and got one more light, over the bed. But I did not find these things to diminish my stay. I loved the old vibe. It felt like staying in hotels in my childhood and early adulthood, and I liked that. The neon signs are classic. I've seen those signs on neon websites for many years, and they were what caught my eye and made me decide I just had to stay there. The staff were wonderful.
