The *first* Microtel apparently. I'm a big fan of this hotel chain, it's the only reason I ever took interest in the Wyndham brand based on my first experience which just so happened to be staying in the other microtel that's in the Rochester area. That hotel was in a different ballpark altogether than other budget hotels, and since then microtel had been my go-to budget hotel that has never disappointed. This location is, according to the sign at the front desk, the original location from 1986. Being a fan of the chain that was really cool to stumble upon — the only reason I chose this one instead of the other one I'd stayed at in the past was slight location advantage this time around and price, about $15 cheaper. I was just dead tired so went with the cheaper of the two. Definitely not nearly as nice as the other location, but for the price I paid I guarantee there's still no other hotel out there that could touch it. I stay at a lot of hotels! Internet was relatively good, front desk was cordial, room was clean and well designed. The design is pretty much the exact same as any other microtel out there except for a few minor items — no padding on the bench, slightly different desk, and the fact that it's obviously older than any of them since it was the first. That said, it's a great design that hasn't been improved on much at all in newer ones. Lighting was great as in all microtels, bed was clean, comfy, with white linens that aren't hiding anything nasty like other budget hotels, and I had both fridge and microwave. If I had my wife with me I'd spring for the other Rochester location for a bit more money (except that she'd want to stay at this one once because it's the original and she's a fan as well), but with just myself passing through i'd stay at this location again without a second thought and get a nicer dinner with the savings.
