We always try to stay at Microtel because our past experiences have been good. Clean, fairly modern rooms, great service, good amenities. However, this visit was a disappointment. When I booked the room they did a customary authorization if my debit card. When we checked in somehow I got charged twice. I immediately called the front desk and was told by the desk person that they did not know how to correct this and that I should call my bank. Long story short, my account was overdrawn. Luckily I had planned on using another card for meals etc. During our stay. But imagine the disaster had that not been the case. Additionally, on a less annoying note, the TV in the room was set on zoom so that text and people's heads were often cut off at the top and bottom of the screen. It also shut itself off randomly. I was told by the front desk that they didn't know how to correct that and the set in the room was "on the list to be replaced". Otherwise, the room was nice and clean but lacked a refrigerator as most of their rooms seem to have. The elevator was not working on top of everything else but I understand that these things happen. I am disappointed but we'll still lean towards Microtels in the future.
I usually only go with 4 star places or higher but due to timing, booking, etc had to go with a 3.5. Pretty stark difference. This place is in a location close to attractions, staple stores. Free breakfast that's pretty good with good hours. Basic but good. The coffee is really good. Rooms are fine but all thru hotel the carpet is old and gross. The hallways are so dark but not hip modern dark. Poor light fixtures, yellowish walls and the carpet all outdated. The elevator is out of service and I think it might be the only one. What makes this place turn creepy and kinda gross is the fact that normal areas of the hotel that should be behind closed doors are open and viewable to everyone. Like the laundry room and electrical room. They both have doors but remain open and they aren't exactly beautiful places. It's a little weird. Ample parking especially for boats. Nice lobby. Bed linens OK, could be better (for example it's a sheet, duvet, a sheet instead of a real comforter).

I was told by front desk that smoking has been prohibited for 2yrs… first room reaked of smoke… gave me another room which was ok… following morning I opened our door to leave and the whole hall smelled of smoke. No fridge, no microwave. If your passing through like we were, one night at the very most. I would not stay multiple nights. I will not be staying again. If you have rooms that still smell of smoke 2 yrs since last smoker, you have a problem.
