Well worth the price of the room! Oceanfront and great amenities!

Lack of parking bad service at bar/ restaurant.

Very poor service at bar staying here now! Found someone’s old socks in the drawers when we went to put clothes away. Worker mike at bar refused to wait on us. Very poor attitude! Will never stay here again… very sad.

We stayed at the Marquis de Lafayette last weekend and it was perfect! What was best were the two front desk associates that made our stay so wonderful! They welcomed us and were so accommodating. Their customer service was superb. Thank you ladies for making our Mother’s Day weekend so enjoyable and relaxing!

The room was barely habitable. The smell of mold/mildew was so strong that when I arrived I immediately removed the air conditioner cover and filter, both of which were covered in dirt, dust, mildew and what looked like black mold. I took the pieces to the front desk and they were returned to my room clean very quickly. I turned the air on and the smell was still unbearable and felt dangerous. I was going to use the ceiling fan but had to clean that first, it was coated in dust and grime. I looked at the wicker furniture and found it also to be covered in dirt, dust and grime. Once I noticed that, I decided to check the floors, also filthy. I had to clean every surface of the room. I had no choice but to stay since all of Cape May was fully booked. I never turned the air on again and only used the ceiling fan. I slept without air in August. It was a very bad experience.

Great location right in the heart of all the fun of Cape May. Bright, well-kept rooms with ceiling fans and private balconies that have a little table and rocking chairs. Updated bathrooms and super comfy beds. Friendly staff. Some parking right on property; another lot is a short walk away on a separate property. FANTASTIC full, hot and cold buffet breakfast included. Only reason for 4 vs 5 stars is property could use some exterior maintenance on walkways and stairs and wicker furniture In rooms could use updating (really worn looking; one of our chairs had thumbtacks holding it together; some drawers don’t open easily and a little musty smelling. )

Very nice. They should lose the carpet but great location. Staff was very pleasant. Did at poolside bar was very good. We had the wings and started tuna and was incredible!

My wife and I sat at the outdoor bar, we had a great time though. The bartender was very cordial and attentive. The mixed drinks, while slightly overpriced, were not short on the good stuff but very drinkable. It's up off of street level so you have a great view of the ocean.

Hotel needs updating… Had a portable A. C. Unit in my room which was ultra annoying because you had to dump the water out or it would overflow… We found this out the hard way night #1… Information we absolutely should have been told… That I found ridiculous… But overall the good outweighs the bad… 4 stars…

What a great place to get away enjoy your quiet romantic weekend with the wife the staff were excellent and very accommodating to our needs the kitchen was delicious the cuisine was fabulous I feel that this is a great getaway for couples and to enjoy the view from the 6 floor was awesome what a breathtaking to watch the sunrise and the sunset in hear the sound of the surf what a great place for getaway in Cape May I would highly recommend it to anyone I know for great couples weekend or just to enjoy the sound of the ocean and fresh air clean and very polite staff maintenance were on point everything was perfect. The pool and bar area were very clean and the staff were attentive. I'm excited about going back. What a relaxing weekend.

BOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE ASAP! It was an awful experience and certainly not worth the money. I ended up paying $306.00 per nigh. Be aware that this hotel will charge your credit card with extra fees and unauthorized charges. By the time, I asked for an explanation at the front desk they didn't have one. The clerk in charge at the check out time couldn't understand the extra fee neither. She said that the GM will call me back with pertinent explanation, but I never receive a phone call with the explanation. I wouldn't mind to pay that price only for one night (we check in at 6pm and left by 9:00am) if at least the hotel had inside amenities that our family would enjoy like others hotels (indoor pool, arcades, etc) Unfortunately, it wasn't the case. Suite was tiny, old TV's, not parking. One of the main reasons to select this place was because they allow my dog (for an extra fee of course) but my poor dog didn't have any space where to move around.

Staff is really nice. We stayed in two rooms, one on the second floor with a king sized bed and one on the first floor (a pet friendly room). The rooms were clean as far as I could tell. We came in March so it was rather cold in the rooms (we had the heaters on 80 most of the time we were in there) First floor has tile floors and no carpets (I guess cause of the pets). It is a really great location but could use an update on the interior (lots of wicker) Pool and restaurant were closed for the season.

They have location … and that is it … they call their dirty chlorinated spa a pool … beach is great … town is nice.

Typical Cape May hotel. Arrogant and unforgiving. Had a family emergency and had to cancel my reservation four days ahead of time. Knowing the cancellation policy, I asked if I could switch my Tues reservation to the following Tues. I was told probably no — though there were rooms available in Nov — but the manager would contact me within the hour. No one would ever get back to me and they charged me the full price, then charged me again for a pet fee (my pet never entered the premises). In addition, they sent me a confirmation of a reservation for TWO rooms on a completely different month. I was on the phone with them for 30 minutes to straighten out their bookkeeping error. I don't recommend. Then again, I've had similar or worse interactions from many Cape May hotels. The reason they keep out the chains is hardly to keep my old hometown quaint.

Clean place. Friendly service. Free breakfast. Close to beach. Some odd "dripping" sound can be heard at night… not exactly sure what it was. Also, I think the mattress could be more comfortable.

Made a reservation through their website for a King room for our 20 YEAR ANNIVERSARY (received a confirmation). Check in, go to the room, and get 2 doubles. Go back to front desk with confirmation in hand and was told "sorry, but we can't do anything". Beds were hard as a rock and it was an oven in there all night, no matter how many times we tried to adjust the thermostat (we have the exact same one at our house, so not user error). The best part of the trip was the buffet breakfast, otherwise, completely laughable. We definitely will NOT be back. $260 LESSON!

Been coming here for years with my family and now my wife. I like the changes they have made but housekeeping needs some re-education just don’t come in unannounced when someone is changing how about knocking especially when there is s sign on the door. Check was a little bit messy one of the people seemed to interested in there phones rather than us. Oh the breakfast was cold to that’s needs an improvement nothing like cold eggs in the morning bleh. Will I return most likely maybe a different hotel next time.

Years of staying at this hotel, and, on account of keeping traditions, looking beyond some major issues and less than friendly staff, have come to an end! I have never been treated so rudely and disrespectfully when disputing a bill charge where I was 100% in the right! Was told from their 'Billing Manager "that's the way it is" (not even an attempt to apologize) and when told we would never return were told "we have plenty of customers. " Who says this to guests, never mind regular repeat customers? Aside from this treatment I agree with other reviews of smells in some rooms, maintenance issues around the building, being overcharged for a less than decent (included) breakfast and less-than-friendly staff. We will never visit this poorly run establishment again — — and neither will the families we travel with each year. Cape May is a great location but I urge anyone looking to visit to think TWICE about a stay here!

Hotel looked nice. Room was clean. The outside bar area is nice. Breakfast was good. You may need to park in an overflow lot. The Wi-Fi was unconnectable.

UPDATE: Hotel called my mother (while father is in hospital) telling her to take down this review, and she is very upset. Whoever is in charge — do not bully your customers like that. The whole purpose of this review system is to provide feedback from an outsiders perspective. If you cannot act honorably, you shouldn't be in business. Original text: My senior citizen father is in the hospital and this hotel refuses to fully refund a reservation that is 3.5 weeks out and after season. My parents have been there many times over the years, and the best they could offer was a 50% refund and not even an offer to fully refund should the room get rented out. Don't support this type of behavior, the hotel should be ashamed.

Wonderful place to stay with your dog, directly across the street from the Beach. Full breakfast buffet included and very good poolside bar and grill for lunch and snacks. So many things to see and do make Cape May a GREAT Vacation destination.

Nice joint. The king suite is nice, view is great, hot tub is nice. The hot tub closes at 9 which is a tad early. Centrally located. Room is nice and contemporary and not dated. Coffee on the balcony is nice. Would recommend!

Great location (across from the beach). Pool is nice but needs more seating. Bar/wait staff was great as were pool and front desk and maintenance staff. Did not like the room at all. Pull out sofa had a terrible mattress. Room was very dark and not able to get light from the windows. AC units were loud and had to be on constantly because it was very hot and muggy. TV had very limited channels and nothing for kids to watch after 8pm. Our key card to our room worked only once every ten times we tried. Very frustrating although the maintenance person tried several times to fix it. Just was not happy with our stay. Will not stay there again. I gave it a fair rating for the location and the staff.

Love the place! The staff is not intrusive, but helpful when necessary. I always enjoy my stay, and love that I can bring my little dog. Also, I love that the place is vintage. It has character! Is acquiring that European charm of age.

Older place, needs some renovation. Staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet was included with our room and was very good. Very good location next to the beach.

Horrible! Charged 3x on my credit card and won't return my money! You feel enclosed in a factory within a white metal enclosure! Mangement is the worst I have ever seen!

Old hotel which reminds me of the grand Budapest. Surely has seen its day. Elevator breaks down regularity and treadmill in the gym is busted. One the positive side all rooms have ocean views and the free breakfast is not bad. Pool is nice as well.

Stay was fine, hotel pool was under construction so quite a bit of noise. It was out of season but still more information in advance of booking would have been helpful.

Just spent the weekend at the Marquis. Wonderful room on the second floor. It was clean and the bed was most comfortable. The room had a wonderful balcony with a great ocean view. Clearly during the summer this is a great asset. The hotel has a large parking lot immediately behind and during peak months I was told that there is more than ample ancillary parking less than a block away exclusive for the hotel guests only. The staff was friendly and the complimentary breakfast was fantastic. I strongly recommend this establishment.

The guy who checked us in at the front desk was incredibly rude and the rooms were very small for the price I paid. Room furniture was cheaply made — nothing to write home about. Will not be staying here ever again.

The front desk clerks are very rude, unprofessional, miserable, and treat the guests like criminals. They act like if they were doing us a favor rather then WE (the guests) are the ones paying for them to have a job. If the guest make a late check out he/she is charged more. However to check in, the staff is always late. I arrived at the hotel with my husband and my little dog and our room was not ready on the right time. By the way the staff made us wait more than 40 minutes after the time for check in and never compensate us in any way about it. The parking lot is too far, small, and the pool is a joke. I had my stay paid in full and yet the receptionist refused to give me my keys because she said I had to bring a secure credit card. I walked all the way to the parking lot very far to get my credit card. Meanwhile my husband and my little dog were waiting. I came back with the credit card and this time the receptionist still refused to give my keys with another excuse. (she kept treating me like a criminal even though I had my stay paid in full before my arrival. Obvious a case of racism against me and my family). Anyway, they just treat the guest like garbage. The hotel is too expensive for the terrible service it offers. Stay away from Marquis de Lafayete and their rude miserable receptionists.

We had no issues here except that I expected more out of the appearance of hotel and room. Especially for staying in Cape May. When I first pulled up, I thought "oh no… ". The appearance of the hotel did not look appealing and quickly figured out why I paid 1/2 of what I was goimg to pay at neary by hotels. At first, I couldn't find parking but just 1 trip around the block, I found one open out front. I arrived an hour earlier than check in and my room was ready! They offered to help unload my car. Someone quickly came to my assistance. Tipped him. Finding it on the first floor was easy. My children loved that the balcony lead straight to the pool. I enjoyed the outside small bar right next to it. Though a busy room location, it was pretty quiet inside our room. Room was decent. Not luxary, but beds were comfy. It was considered a suite with 2 rooms connected by a tiny kitchen spot (small fridge, microwave, 2stove burners) and the bathroom. Bathroom was small to share but it was fine. Room was considered a Pet Friendly room, which we didn't have, but the room left no trace of animals being there. I liked that it had 2 doors. One in the front of the pool side and the back side of the building. We never had to walk around the entire building to find anything. But make sure your doors are closed tightly. Several times, I've come back to my room noticing it wasn't even locked because it wasn't shut tight enough. Free breakfast buffet was very nice!

We've been going to the Lafayette for years and love it! People who complain about the hotel being "old" just aren't into Victorian and need to stay at a Hilton. The staff is nice, the food is great, the rooms are quaint, and the pool is heated… and Cape May is beautiful and quiet. Perfect.

Room interior was updated but hotel exterior needed fresh coat of paint. The whole place could use a remodel, there is visible signs of many years of patchwork repairs. Free breakfast buffet was good.

We were so disappointed to see the condition of this place. If you are used to quality and luxury, stay far away! $380 is not exactly cheap for one night, and for that price we expected a lot more. This hotel is falling apart. It is run down and has not been renovated for years. The front desk staff are unprofessional and rude. They did not have a trickle of warmth to their demeanor. The condition of the room was a disappointment. The wicker furniture is outdated and of course, very cheap. The balcony was so so and I would have much rather stayed at a hotel a few blocks inland because there was nothing spectacular about the view, at least from the 2nd floor. While outside, you can see the paint peeling off of the building and look upon a cement courtyard with no plants, flowers, or grass outside. We sat by the poolside bar, in plastic chairs, and looked upon a very old and outdated pool and plastic pool furniture. One other very important note, our room had ants. Even if this place offered us a free night, we would not stay again. For what this place offers, they should not charge more than 59.95 a night IMHO. Live and learn. If you are used to quality and courtesy, DO NOT STAY HERE.

Just returned from a 2 day stay with our Basset Hound "Raven" The room was spotless, Bedding fresh and Clean! Plenty of Pet friendly places to eat at and also welcomed in many shops. The staff at the hotel was friendly and attentive. Booking our next stay as soon as I finish writing this review.

I had the opportuity to stay at the Marquis de Lafayette with a group and we had an awesome time. We realize they are in the process of upgrading so somethings maybe out dated but we see what they are doing and everything was clean. The staff was superb and extremely nice. We worked with Joan the manager who from the beginning gave us top notch service. The breakfast was great and we were able to eat as a group together with excellent service from the waitresses, cooks and maintenance workers. Each room had an ocean view and the location was perfect allowing us to walk to town and right down the street from the supermarket. I believe great customer service is important and the Marquis de Lafayette has top notch customer service. Already, we are preparing to be there next year. :) Ohhh and for a real nice room, book the 6th floor, VERY NICE ROOMS, updated and a nice taste of what to expect in the future.

This was my first stay in Cape May and Louise was very hospitable and incredibly personable and went out of her way to accommodate me. I had a great room with an ocean view and the hotel is wonderful with its ocean view.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food here was very good however when we went to the included breakfast the next morning (a Sunday) there was only one server working despite a wedding being held in the hotel the day before! The room was musty but clean. The bed was VERY uncomfortable and the heating/cooling set up was not good. The price was very high for off season $215 and we did not feel like we got our $ worth with this room — in need of major updates. Having to leave $100 cash deposit for a pet was annoying. A signed pet clause and a credit card should be sufficient just like other hotels. Thankfully, we only booked one night here. We would not recommend this to anyone and will not be going back.

Best location and best view on the island. Most amenities of any beach front hotel in Cape May. We have stayed at 15 establishments in Cape May and this is the one we come back to. Clean, comfortable, convenient to beach, shopping, restaurants. 24 hour desk sent up battery for dead remote at 11 at night. All rooms/suites have beachfront view, coffeemaker, microwave, tub/shower. Newly redone suites have full kitchenette. Recommend new sixth floor suites. Easy, free parking still available after you check out. Great breakfast buffet, heated pool.
